Playa Pelada House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Casa de la Playa is a beautifully constructed, fully air conditioned, spacious, 2 story single home located in a private gated community. This peaceful and tranquil house is nestled on the 200 meter maritime zone with a jungle pathway to the secluded, serene beach of Playa Pelada. Nosara is a hidden treasure where the breath-taking beaches and wild jungle collide to form the perfect paradise.

The house includes two master suites each with its own private, spacious walk-in showers and facilities. Each room has a queen size bed; one incorporates two single futons for house to sleep six. Each suite has a walk out terrace to enjoy the natural pristine setting. The house is beautifully decorated with Costa Rican pottery, fabrics, and artwork. Beautifully tiled rooms with ceiling fans throughout provide a cool retreat. The fully equipped kitchen and open floor plan on the first floor provides plenty of room for dining or just relaxing in the handmade Costa Rican furniture. There is also outdoor furniture including rockers, hammock, and more!

Outdoor enthusiasts will be thrilled at the location of this house. Playa Pelada beach, famous for it's surf, sand, sun and spectacular sunsets but lack of crowds, is ideal for all types of water sports, and it's literally a 60 second walk down the path from the house. Guiones Beach, known for world-class surfing (lefts and rights on a sand bottom) is only a short walk down the beach. But there are also some drier ways to scratch that exercise itch; hiking to waterfalls, caves and caverns, horseback riding, ATV riding, zip-lining, or beauty treatments, massage and yoga at the renown Yoga Institute, for example. Add a walk to the Lagarta Lodge for a beautiful sunset dinner or a tour through their Biological Reserve. Also within walking distance is one of the finest restaurants on the beach, “La Luna” with a menu which changes daily and the freshest fish you've ever eaten. After lunch head back to the complex for a refreshing dip in the shared luxury pool, equipped with jacuzzi and pavilion. The pool and jacuzzi are located off your back patio just a 10 second walk from your lanai. Which ever way you walk; to the pool, the beach, the nature reserve or the restaurants---enjoy the monkeys, iguanas, and tropical birds along the way. Of course, if you decide to just totally relax and do nothing, that's okay too - enjoy...Pura Vida!!

Paige & Mark,

First, I truly appreciate your ongoing communication and follow up! I've rented several other vacation homes before but no one has been so on top of as you guys!!!Your home is so cute and in a great location! Eduardo gave us all the info about the house and showed us everything we needed. We cooked many meals so we went to the market in Nosara and Guiones. We even bought some fresh Mahi Mahi from a local fisherman over in Guiones. The house was equipped with everything we needed for cooking. Thanks! We surfed on Playa Guiones most days and rented our boards from Coconut Harry's. I also bought an umbrella while there but left it to donate to your beach gear. We also did a sunset beach ride with Playa Ponies, they were fantastic! Only $50 for 2 hours.Overall we couldn't have asked for a better house or location!!! I would highly recommend your place to anyone who wants to go to Costa Rica. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help promote your rental! Thanks again for everything!!! One of our best vacations ever!!!!

Life Changer

  • 5 of 5

The date of arrival is wrong - we went in April 2014 - and I just realized we didn't write a review.... and we really needed to and the date above is as far back as the review allows. Nosara is a magical place. It's the most laid back, relaxing vacation destination we have chosen (and we travel a lot)! The house was everything we needed - the location was far enough away from the town for us to feel secluded (we live rural at home) but close enough to the beach to walk down. The pool behind the house was amazing - its been designed so that there is a shady spot no matter what time of day it is. The internet didn't work for us either.... I didn't care - I was happy to be able to put the phone away. We had a capybara visit us in the backyard - and a whole family of monkeys passed over us while we laid on the hammocks. Everyone we met, from the locals to the expats to the tourists, were wonderful. Playa Guiones is a short drive away - and as a first time surfer - its all sand bottom is a relief - the waves are excellent for beginner surfers. I recommend this house and this destination to anyone heading to Costa Rica.

As a result of this trip - we are seriously considering getting out of the rat-race and moving to Nosara. We are looking forward to our next trip.... maybe this time it'll be to buy a house. lol

Threes a charm!

  • 5 of 5

This was our third trip to Casa de la Playa, and definatly one of the best. We had great weather and perfect wave conditions. The last few days we had some Guanacaste winds which kept the winds blowing for perfect offshore waves for surfing and also kept the crowds down, along with keeping the temps a little cooler. We also checked out Rosies second location which is new and excellent. Try the homemade cucumber salsa. It's great on eggs and on their fish sandwich thats one of the best we've ever had. We also had dinner at Pacifica Azul which is now located at The Gilded Iguana. That was also great ,we actually wish we'd hit there earlier in the trip because of how much fun we had there. But of course we also frequented Il Pepperoni the most. It's right around the corner from the house and it's our favorite, we love it there! El Chivo (which is also right down the road) had a super bowl party and they did a great job. They set up multiple tv's and the place was packed with lots of ex pat's and visiting tourists, almost forgot I was in another country, if it wasn't for the open air restaurant and palm trees. Almost everyday we went to the pool which is beautiful. We would read and swim, it was perfect especially after a surf session. We really enjoyed our stay at this house. It's really set up perfectly for 2 couples and extra family. The water shortage that was occurring while we were there, was really no big deal. We were made aware of it when we arrived and we prepared for it. We had extra water bottles/jugs and filled them every day and did the dishes in the am. when the water was back on. So as I said it was really no big deal we dealt with it and everyone on the trip had a great time. We all look forward to coming back next year and agreed it was probably our most fun and relaxing trip to Nosara yet. Can't wait to come back for an even longer stay, Pura Vida, we love it there!

This home is lovely, but there were issues

  • 3 of 5

Basically, this is a lovely home. The interior was clean and exactly as listed. The pool next door was a life saver. We used it almost every day. Very nice. The beds were OK. Bathrooms very nice. However there were issues with this home. Our biggest problem was the water. Even though the owner has no control over the shortage of water in Nosara, anyone renting this home should be fully aware of this problem. The water was turned off at 6pm to 8am every day and one day did not come back on until 11:30am. This made it very difficult to enjoy the beach in the evening as you could not rinse off after swimming and had to go to bed with sand everywhere. You could not take showers, flush toilets, do the dishes, etc from 6pm to 8am. Not the best for a relaxing vacation. We had to cut our vacation short 1 day, as needed to leave for airport early in the morning, and could not bath or do dishes before leaving, so had to leave the day before our departure date to stay in a motel. The next problem we had was the smell of garbage. The apartment complex next door stores their garbage right next to this house. In 90+degrees, this garbage smelled so bad we were not able to sit outdoors in the front or the back of the house. We tried, but the smell was horrendous, and we ended up returning in doors. Not what we were expecting. Then we were told there would be a telephone, but there was not. It seems to have been out of order for some time, and the phone company was not able to fix it. Normally this would not be a problem, but we have a disabled child at home and needed a phone for her to call in case of emergency. We also did not have cell phone coverage back to the US, so we were constantly trying to contact her via internet. The other issue we ran into is the size of the TV in the living room. Since we couldn't enjoy the outdoors of the home, we decided to watch movies. Couldn't see the small screen until we moved the furniture closer to the TV. The walk to the beach is not far, however, I thought this was a private path to the beach. Ended up that everyone uses this path, and we had constant people walking, driving, and 4-wheeling in front of the house on their way to the beach. An overall rating of 3 (out of 5) is all I could give this home.

Owner's Response: 3/29/19 Update: The water issue was the entire town's issue due to the combination of drought, El Nino, and the busiest tourist season ever. We've installed a 500 gallon water storage tank as of March 2016 to buffer the water problems of Nosara. When/if the "town's" water is turned off in the evening - the water in this tank automatically starts flowing. We still practice water conservation though!! Pura vida! Original Response: We appreciate the compliments about our house but would like to address the other issues noted in this review. The entire area of Nosara had their water turned off in the evenings to allow the wells to refill (not just our home). Unfortunately these guests as well as every other guest visiting Playa Guiones and Playa Pelada experienced these water conservation efforts during this high season. The number of tourists peaked and the usage was more than the output. The Nosara area also experienced the Guanacaste winds which played havoc with phone lines. When a phone line is of absolute necessity - talk to your cell phone service provider for a temporary accommodation. Counting on local phone service in the jungle of a developing country can, at times, be like rolling dice. Regarding the path to the beach - our home is only a short 1-2 minute walk down the jungle path which dead ends to the most beautiful beach. Although you often find yourself alone on this beach - it is still a beach access path. The "traffic" on this path can consist of a few people going down on foot in the morning or later to view the sunset, iguanas, monkeys, and the occasional quad or odd car as this is a dead end/dirt road path. Lastly, the trash...this was also a problem for all of Nosara, not our home alone, because the trash truck had broken down. This small jungle town only has one trash truck and we feel terrible it happened while these guests were there (and the trash bins have since been moved to another location). It's very important to us that our guests enjoy our home, we work hard to try and make that happen, but the "jungle gods" were not cooperating that week. The Nosara area is a really special place and we would like nothing more but to have our guests experience the best it has to offer. Even if the weather and/or other issues conspire against them...the wildlife, the surfing, the beauty of the jungle, the sparkling water meeting the gorgeous Pelada sands, and the wonderful people and their culture are still right outside the door. Enjoy!

Exceeded our expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Where do I even start! We had a wonderful time! I can’t even put into words how amazing it was to just chill! You were correct! It’s a very special place! Our little girl might have taken her first steps on the beach… I will pretend that it didn’t happen because I was out surfing and didn’t see it! Thank you again for all your assistance in setting this up! There were a few issues with the phone and internet not working, not a big deal at all for us! It was great to just unplug! Also, the toilet in the master bathroom was running but Eduardo had it fixed rapidly! None of this bothered us in the least! Thank you again! We will be back!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for this positive review. We love to hear that our guests want to return-that says it all. Vacationing in a jungle area with dirt roads can occasionally have some minor issues... like the Internet (we hear it's a national issue-that they're changing the infrastructure to fiber optics). But we feel like you do-we travel to learn about and enjoy a new place with its wonderful people, beautiful beaches, incredible wildlife and to get away from our devices...maybe that is Costa Rica's way of saying - unplug, look around, enjoy our beautiful country! Thanks for titling this review "exceeded our expectations!" Come back any time!

Nice property on the mid/northern end of Pelada

  • 3 of 5

First of all, dealing with Mark (and the manager Eduardo, but especially Mark) was great. Very responsive and concerned; even in some of my criticisms.

We stayed at the property for 7 days and as a whole it is as described and impeccably clean. I did have a few issues:

- The property is on the mid- to northern end of Playa Pelada. Pelada is a 100m walk down the path but Guiones is a 10-12 min (one-way) drive via the main road. It is *not* what the map shows. It is close to the tip/rock that separates Playa Pelada from Playa Nosara. Playa Pelada and Playa Guiones are for all practical purposes different towns.

- Internet never worked during our trip. I'm used to spotty coverage and I think we just had bad luck this time, but as I think other reviewers had mentioned, don't count on it.

- Phone service was sporadic. It came & went (it was down 3 days out of 7). During that time, the alarm system beeped day & night. Again, the phone service going out is something fairly common in these parts; it may be worth getting instructions on how to disable that warning from the alarm. In our case, the alarm sometimes had an issue with a sensor as well, so even when the phone was up, it would randomly start beeping at which point it could no longer be armed. Maybe a loose connection, battery, etc.

- The pool access is via another development; however the gate to that development is locked at 6pm, so you have to be OUT. That limited our pool usage quite a bit. That said, the pool was clean and a nice place to relax.

- As others have mentioned, there is no view, not even from the balconies. Wasn't expecting that, but you just have to know that the back yard is basically for sitting down and drying your clothes (which, frankly, was great having a place to dry things out 2x per day).

But, as mentioned, the house was very clean, spacious, air conditioners and everything worked fine (water pressure is low, just another fact of the area).

Some thoughts on the beaches:

- Playa Pelada: beautiful, however, I would warn everyone of the rip currents. This is something we're used to from the beaches near where we live, but they're even stronger out there, especially at high tide. Also, in a number of areas there are rocks below the surface at high tide. You need to scope out the area at low tide; my son (12) jumped in at high tide, got knocked over and wound up with cuts on his legs, knees and chest.

- Playa Guiones: awesome. Loved the surf!

Owner's Response: Edit: Our map is now accurate! Original:We appreciate the kind comments about working with us and the fact that our house is "as described" and impeccably clean. We would like to clarify the others which may not be clear to others reading this. Nosara is quite large and not only encompasses Guiones and Pelada, but also the town of Nosara (inland), and Ostional, etc. We usually recommend a vehicle if you want to experience all that Nosara has to offer. As you commented Pelada is a 10-12 minute ride to Guiones. Guiones is the tourist/surf town while Pelada is considered the quieter (note: tons of wildlife and beaches with no crowds), less touristy, more authentic/pura vida part of those two specific areas. The beach at Pelada is called the most beautiful of all the Nosara beaches. There are travelers who want only to surf and enjoy the hubbub - a home in Guiones is perfect. For those travelers who want to enjoy the natural beauty of Nosara... Pelada is a good choice (while being able to drive 10 mins to the tourist side). It is so unfortunate that these guests experienced phone/internet problems...it was a problem throughout the Pelada area as well as parts of Guiones at the time of their travels. When traveling to what is called a "developing" country (and an area that is jungle with dirt roads) these things can happen....but Costa Rica is developing quickly and they happen less and less. There are times these services are better than your own home but it is no lie-there are times when they're not. Regarding the view...the law in Costa Rica is - you cannot build within 200 meters of the ocean. The wonderful results of this law are that while you are swimming or enjoying the beach all you see is jungle, not development. Houses on the hill have great views but you sacrifice proximity to the beach and you're back in your vehicle to drive there. The reviewer pointed out that the pool is open 9am-6:00 pm this is posted on our VRBO page but I should point it out again in case it is a determining factor when choosing a home. Lastly the reviewer pointed out rip tides. He is absolutely right - Costa Rica's Pacific coast is known for these at certain tides. There are signs posted on the beach. There are also blowholes, incredible tidepools, snorkeling, even bat caves. Having said that- water safety is always a must wherever you go! It's hard to figure out all the things you want in a home...but research, read all the reviews, and ask many questions of the homeowners.

A wonderful stay

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at this nice house. We agree with a lot of the other reviews. The interior of the house is very nice, clean and spacious, and two bathrooms is great, and the high ceiling on the 2cd floor gives the house a luxurious feeling :) Security is well taken care of, so good that we had to give up using the alarm after setting it of a few times because we didnt leave the house quick enough, nearly giving our selves a heart attack both before and after setting of the alarm.. We have to say that we felt the outdoor surroundings were a little cramped and dark by bushes and palm trees, there is not a lot of view to look at, the car on one side and bushes on the back side. But of course no one looks in either. The house is 1 minute from Playa Pelada which is one of the most beautiful beaches I have been to, very much because of the tidal waters, you never knew what meets you, and of course the sunsets which were amazing, The pool is very nice, nice place to meet people and cool down. We thought the house and the pool was in the residential area, but the pool is next door. Still only 1 minute walk. Nosara on the whole is a very nice place, we would say a car is obligatory as walking is hot, dusty or dark, but we traveled with a 3 and a 5 year old and that in itself restricted us in many ways. There are a lot of nice restaurants and plenty to do. Maybe not ideal for children as small as ours, but all in all a place, a house and a holiday we will never forget. Thank you Mark and Page for always answering our emails promptly and providing us with a lot of very useful information.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this review and mentioning all the positive features of the house and the area. There is a law that there is no building within 200 meters of the ocean so although we can't see the beach from the house...when you are on the beach or swimming in the ocean you don't see development - just the jungle. That's a beautiful sight plus it's just a minute walk from the house! Our location can't be beat. Thank you for trusting your month long holiday to us - we're glad you found it memorable!
