The shoreline along much of Lake Champlain is comprised of ledge and small rocks, so sandy beach is rare. The AuSable River enters Lake Champlain, just behind AuSable Point, creating the ideal environment for the formation of the sand bar and beach. AuSable Point also provides a wonderful launch location for those experienced in kite boarding or kite surfing. The southerly winds are favorable at this location and one can often view these athletes soaring high into the air off the end of AuSable Point. if Kayaking/paddle sports are more your speed, this location offers excellent access to both Lake Champlains protected waters north of AuSable Point, but also to the AuSable River at Baggs Landing. The Kayak Shack rents watercraft by the hour, day or week and offers lessons and launching daily in the summer from their spot at Baggs Landing just 2 miles south on Rt. 9 where the bridge crosses the AuSable River.
