Beautiful and clean but overly strict and RUDE owner...not worth it!
The house is even more beautiful in person than in the pictures and is spotless. I would have given 5 stars and would have loved to stay again except for one thing. The owner, Marie, was extremely rude to me. I received a phone call complaining that my group was too loud (10 women) at 7:15pm when we were all inside the house with doors and windows closed, just talking. I was surprised by this, and tried to apologize, but Marie continued to berate me over the phone for several minutes and threatened to remove us from the property. As a paying customer, I expect at the VERY LEAST to be spoken to respectfully. Even if we had been excessively loud, an apology and promise to keep it down should have ended the call. We had been there only a half hour when the call came. Afterward, we felt too nervous to use any of the outdoor spaces for fear that if we spoke to each other, police would be called and we’d get kicked off the property as was threatened by the owner. It really affected our stay. I should not have been surprised by this because the tone of both the listing and previous messages with Marie were very harsh, but I anticipated having no problems since we would be following all her rules. I assumed she’d had some bad renters in the past, but that respectful renters would not be a problem. I googled a little and found a news article citing 133 police calls to the area and one citation, and the town had to intervene because the people who live there keep unnecessarily calling police on each other. Uptight and toxic neighborhood and extraordinarily rude owner ruin the beauty of the cottage.
There are plenty of beautiful beach houses. Pick one that cares more about you.
Yep--we've had AWFUL guests this summer and last summer that have ruined this experience for us and our neighbors. As stated before arrival, the neighbors have zero tolerance for noise at this point, and when I started getting multiple complaints within an hour of their arrival, there's nothing else to be done but to let them know that we're already getting complaints. If the windows were closed and the neighbors could hear them enough to complain, that's a problem. We'd been put on notice that the neighbors were going to call the police the next time they were disturbed, so that was going to happen if I hadn't intervened, and all we can do is pass that on to our guests so they know what they're walking into.
Fantastic stay at Beachcomer Cottage
My family and I had a fantastic stay at the Beachcomber Cottage in Portsmouth, RI. The house had everything we needed for a weekend getaway, and it was a short drive to beaches and to spend the day in Newport. The place has beautiful views and is in a quiet neighborhood. The owner, Marie, was super and very kind to allow us some flexibility in arriving and leaving, which we greatly appreciated. We highly recommend this property and wouldn't hesitate renting from Marie again. Thank you!
Beachcomber Cottage September 19-25
My family and I had the pleasure of staying at Marie Force's Beachcomber Cottage during the time of my daughter's wedding. We had a wonderful time at this beautiful place overlooking the water. Let me thank the Force's for their hospitality and constantly were checking if we needed anything. Everything was perfect and made our stay very comfortable. The cottage was nicely re-decorated and helped us relax between all of the wedding festivities.
Thank you again for letting us stay at your cottage and we highly recommend this place for anyone wanting a relaxing getaway.
We enjoyed our stay at this home. Marie was flexible and was able to let us in early on Friday which was appreciated. The house was clean and perfect for our group of 9 women. It had everything we needed. It was convenient to the different wineries in the area and just under 20 minutes into Newport.
The house was a wonderful place for our family to stay. Located on a bluff overlooking the bay with a beach a block away it was perfect for our family. The house is in good shape, recently renovated and they did a great job and we felt right at home. It is the perfect place for families looking to get away and still have access to Newport. Sitting on the porch at night looking out over the bay was a highlight to the trip.
Perfect vacation getaway in Rhode Island
We cannot say enough about our stay at the Beachcomber Cottage. We were visiting Rhode Island for my sister's wedding in Bristol - the home was perfect for my family, my brother's family and my parents. The house was spacious and INCREDIBLY CLEAN. It had every amenity that we could have needed, a beautiful view of the beach and Marie was very easy to work with and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. We had 5 children under the age of 8 - the home was family/kid friendly. We would recommend this home to anyone!
We loved the quiet, residential area - we were a bit nervous about keeping the 10pm curfew.... in the end it was not a problem for us. It was centrally located for all of the fun activities we did with our kids in Newport, Jamestown, Providence, Bristol and Warren.
We sent a full week at the Beachcomber and are looking forward to returning sometime soon!
