Unique lakefront location, surrounded by water, sunset views, close to Ithaca!
Come and relax at the private retreat provided by our lakefront cottage! You know what they say about location, location, location, and this spot is idyllic & incredibly unique. Right at the water's edge at the big bend in Cayuga Lake just north of Ithaca, The Point is located on 1.4 level acres, and features unparalleled views, no cliffs/hillsides, and an incredibly rare 650 feet of Cayuga lake frontage. The 4-season, fully insulated 3 BR/1.5 Bath, 1700 sq ft ranch-style house faces 270 degree lake views, plus a private cove to the north/back of the house that adds to the feeling of being on an island, right in the center of Cayuga Lake! The east shore location means fantastic sunset views and sun throughout the whole day (the west side shades in early due to the steep topography), while the location of the south facing point and lake angle means you also get sunrises! The best of both worlds!
Rise early and take in the stillness at sunrise. Enjoy the lake breezes and the sound of the waves against the rocky lakeshore. Quietly observe a great blue heron stalking crawfish along the water's edge, or marvel at an osprey plunging out of the sky. Hunt for fossils and lucky stones in the lakeshore shale. Watch the enormous carp swimming lazily amongst the water lilies in the shallows of the private cove behind the house. View the drama of an afternoon thunderstorm advancing across the lake toward you and then passing by, leaving the air clean and fresh. Explore the area parks, waterfalls, and wineries. Laugh around a table, enjoying a meal with loved ones, or unwind around a bonfire. Relax as the stunning colors of sunset bleed into the deep sapphire of twilight and the stars start to twinkle. Let the sound of the water against the rocks and the conversations of the frogs in the back cove lull you to sleep at night. The perfect mix of nature and convenience, the Point feels far enough from everything to be relaxing, and is still an easy 10-15 minute drive to Ithaca College, Cornell University, and downtown Ithaca. An ideal location for a relaxing get-away, or to visit either college. This private and unique lakefront property is close to a wide range of area attractions and a perfect spot for visitors with any interests! You really won’t find anyplace else like it!
At the road's end at the property line, continue on the flat driveway to the convenient gravel parking area right at lake level; unlike many other houses on Cayuga Lake, there are no long cliffside staircases in order to be near the water. Park next to the shore, cross the wide level lawn, take 1 step up onto a wooden deck at the front of the house and take in the incomparable lake views. The front door opens into an open floor plan kitchen/dining area. A kitchen island provides a spot to sit and chat while preparing a meal, with panoramic views from the kitchen windows. The cook’s kitchen is fully equipped with new slate/stainless appliances including a refrigerator/freezer, gas stove/dual oven and dishwasher, as well as a microwave, toaster, 12-cup drip coffeemaker, French press, blender, hand-mixer, wafflemaker, hot/cold 5-gallon bottled water dispenser, standard pots/pans, and dishes/tableware. A 21-bottle wine fridge allows you to optimally store your finds after a day on the wine trail. Eco bonus: All electricity supplied to the property is 100% solar generated, purchased from a nearby solar grid!
The living room area includes comfortable seating, a flat screen TV with cable & DVD player, a small library of family-friendly DVD movies, and a cupboard full of games. Wireless internet is provided. A wall of living room windows facing southwest look past a mature, shade-providing evergreen tree to views over the lake south to the town of Ithaca, with Cornell University and Ithaca College on opposite hilltops above the town. There are 3 bedrooms (BR1=1 king , BR2=1 queen+1 twin, BR3=1 queen) and 2 bathrooms: 1 full bath with a shower/tub combo and a heated towel rack, and 1 half-bath. The bathrooms are small and modest, consistent with the era when the house was built, but clean and functional. A full-size washer/dryer is in the utility room. All three BRs have windows that overlook the private cove to the north of the house, great for wildlife viewing throughout the year. The decor style is comfort-oriented and eclectic contemporary, celebrating the viticultural, agricultural, and geologic influences of the area, with regional art adorning the walls.
Outside, a firepit provides a place to relax around a lakeside bonfire and roast marshmallows, and a Weber propane barbecue is available for grilling on the deck. A 2-4 person hot tub on the deck provides an incomparable place to relax with amazing lake views (please note that this hot tub is small; it is optimal for 2, will accommodate 4 people maximum). During the warmer months, the deck also provides comfortable seating for lounging, and an 8-person dining table - dining on the deck with the views across the lake is not to be missed (a much better ambiance than any local restaurant)! The huge, level lawn provides plenty of room for the kids to run and burn off energy, and they will also enjoy the playground structures at Myers Park, a 5-10 minute walk away!! Swimming access to the water is made easy by stone steps at the water's edge, the swim ladder on the front dock, or the gradual shale beach in the kayak launch area. During the summer months, comfortable hammocks placed under the trees at the tip of the property invite blissful relaxation right by the water. There are 2 adult-sized kayaks, 2 kid-sized kayaks (kids <100lbs) and a stand-up-paddleboard available for use during the summer, and a sheltered, gradual launch area right there makes getting in and out easy!
Two docks are on the property. Wave action on the front dock on Cayuga Lake itself does not allow for safe mooring of boats here, but it provides water access, a place to fish, and fantastic lake views. The back dock provides access to the calm cove behind the house that connects to a marina, and receives almost no wave action. Small boats with shallow drafts may be moored here, but to access this area, they must be navigated through a narrow and shallow opening under a short bridge, which also limits the freeboard height of boats that may pass through. If mooring a boat is important to you, please contact us before booking to determine if this is viable for your boat. Alternatively, the Point is within a very short walk of 2 marinas where trailered boats may be launched and temporary slip rental may be available. The marinas are close enough to be convenient, but they don't intrude on the property privacy.
We provide bed linens and a set of bath towels for interior use for every guest, and cleaning is taken care of by us when you depart. During the summer months, window air conditioning units are provided in each bedroom, and fans are provided throughout the rest of the house to move cool lake breezes through the many windows.
We are in a unique and prime location to safely enjoy the July 4th celebrations, including walking-distance Town of Lansing fireworks (launched from Myers Park) and unobstructed views south toward Stewart Park (City of Ithaca firework launch) without having to worry about parking and traffic. Also the perfect location to walk to enjoy the free Myers Park outdoor concert series on Thursday evenings throughout the summer.
Originally purchased by the family in the 1930s as a waterfowl-hunting property, this property attracts plenty of local wildlife. In the past year we have seen a wide variety of waterfowl, as well as kingfishers, woodpeckers, songbirds, osprey, blue and green herons, owls, turtles, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, voles, beavers, minks, muskrats, weasels (even a fisher!), raccoons, opossums, woodchucks, foxes, and deer on site at various times.
Come and make some incomparable memories! We hope that you enjoy The Point!
NOTE: Due to the prevalence of internet scammers, we do NOT accept bookings offline or through unregulated classified ad sites. Make reservations only through secure platforms.

This property is my husband's childhood home and as a result we have close family ties to the area. As we do not currently reside here full time, we offer the property for vacation rental when not using it ourselves, and we enjoy sharing fun local hidden gems with our guests. It's very important to us that our home is clean, functional, and comfortable, and we like to emphasize the local flair in the decor.
Michele purchased this House in 2015
Why Michele chose Lansing
The Point has been in my husband's family for generations and is very special to us! The location is truly unique, and the views are unrivaled. There are no residential neighbors, and as it is almost completely surrounded by water, it is private and peaceful. The location is within easy reach of beautiful hiking trails, wineries, waterfalls, farmer's markets, and two fun college towns. Unlike so many Cayuga Lake cottages which are located on a cliff, there are no tall staircases here, and one feels much more connected to the lake!
What makes this House unique
The location of this point in combination with the angulation of the lake really does make this property feel almost like an island. Boaters are active in the southern portion of Cayuga Lake, so during the day on weekends there are lots of sailboats and cruisers to watch, but midweek and during the off-season the lake is quiet and peaceful, and the wildlife really does seem to like the property. We love the proximity to Ithaca and the vibrant college scene (while still feeling like we can enjoy a private retreat), and all that the wine region and nearby state parks have to offer.

Stunning Views and Cozy Retreat
The pictures don’t do this home justice. Stunning inside and out with many upgrades and top-notch amenities. The owners are very responsive and have great personalized tips for this lovely area. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our cold-weather visit and look forward to another in summer months so we can play in and on the water.
Winter on Cayuga Lake
my daughter and I just came back from a wonderful long weekend at The Point. I cannot say enough about the beauty of the setting, the attention to details by the property owner and the welcoming, warm and beautiful home. We were so sad to leave. The bedrooms are large and beautifully decorated, the living room is artistic, warm and welcoming. The kitchen is large with a gorgeous window to look out and see the geese along the shoreline. Everything you could imagine is ready for use inside the home or sitting out and enjoying a dinner outside. The hot tub at night to look at the stars was an added luxury and thoroughly enjoyed. The location is perfect, close to Ithaca,
but yet far enough away to enjoy the natural beauty that the lake affords. I have vacationed many times with VRBO and this is by far my favorite slice of heaven. Thank you Michele for sharing your home with others. I sure hope to be back. Kate

An amazing peaceful retreat and break from real life. Beautiful stunning views! Dogs loved it! We will be back!!!
Slice of heaven!!
If you are looking for some charm and a great place to get away, the point should be at the top of your list. It is an amazing property that has it all! Charm, space, beauty and all the amenities you need to be comfortable. One of the most beautiful spots on the lake, as you truly have panoramic views of the sunrises and sunsets. They were amazing this past weekend!! Not to mention the lights of Ithaca at night as you relax in the hot tub. Camp is extremely comfortable and Don and Michele have done a great job thinking of everything to make your stay memorable. We enjoyed several attractions that Michele was kind enough to share with us on our anniversary weekend as well as simply watching the sailboats enjoying the last of summer. This is our second year staying with Michele and Don and we still haven't seen it all so will definitely be back to the Finger Lakes!!
Peaceful, Cayuga Lakeside Retreat
Beautifully decorated, comfortable home with both indoor and outdoor spaces that our family thoroughly enjoyed. Owners and Property manager provided everything a family could need to have a great stay away from home. Enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding , and soaks in the hot tub and napping in the hammocks by the lake. All of these things included with the rental property. Wonderful views through out the house and deck including peeks of local wildlife and water fowl. Highlights were Ithaca Farmers Market, day spent on the lake in a rental boat from Finger Lakes Boat Rentals, dinners at Aurora Inn and Hazelnut Kitchen, nearby falls at Robert Treman State Park, Taughannock Falls State Park, and Buttermilk Falls State Park. Also really enjoyed our arrival meal provided by Simmer Down, well worth the cost, and the lovely artwork throughout the home.
Private Lakefront Getaway
Everything was perfect except for the rainy weather. My family had a great time relaxing and enjoying the lake. Boating, fishing, kayaking, water skiing, boat trips to wine tasting, restaurants and waterfalls, swimming, tubing, biking, etc.. The house was very nice as advertised and right sized for our family of seven. The best part is you are on your own isolated lakefront lot with total privacy...just my family and the lake.
