About Frances Ackerman

My husband Jim and I raised our family, lived and worked in Richmond, Virginia. We were fortunate to be able to retire early and spent 15 years in Northern New Mexico and Montana enjoying the great outdoors and working as alpine ski instructors.

Ready to hang up the skis and return to warmer weather with four distinct seasons, we searched and settled in Beaufort. Here we enjoy boating, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, golfing, great restaurants and our family consisting of 5 children and 9 grandchildren.

We live 5 blocks away from this rental and enjoy welcoming guests and assisting them in their enjoyment of our neighborhood, city and all they have to offer.

Frances Ackerman purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Frances Ackerman chose Pigeon Point

While working as ski instructors, we developed a love for customer service and sharing our enjoyment of our area and sport. We have travelled extensively using VRBO properties. We have enjoyed meeting our hosts and living in the actual residential areas of places we visited rather than hotels.

We decided we would like to share our experience through renting to guests of our city. We knew we wanted our rental to be in our neighborhood for our ease and because it is such a special place. While walking one day, I spotted a for sale sign just placed in front of this adorable cottage. We toured , made our offer and signed the contract within 24 hours.

What makes this cottage unique

This neighborhood is great for walking and biking. Their is very little traffic and everyone is very friendly. Neighbors are on their front porches and out biking and walking their dogs. It is a very safe congenial location.

Close to downtown, River and ocean is the trifecta for us.

Downtown restaurants have great food for reasonable prices. We I'll love to share our favorite spots and specials with you.

A Place to Exhale!

  • 5 of 5

I and my family came for a Marine Boot Camp Graduation. This was the perfect place for rest and relaxation in a quiet neighborhood. Frances was very helpful and prompt with any questions to be answered. My wife loved the space of the kitchen and the blue hydrangeas blooming out front! We look forward to coming back and really get to see Beaufort at a calmer pace.

Omg so beautiful

  • 5 of 5

So I stayed at this wonderful little house because my son was graduating boot camp at Parris Island. Frances was so wonderful and delightful. She made us cookies to welcome us to her home. It was so beautiful. The pictures really don't do it justice. I will be trying to go back some time in the future. I absolutely fell in love with it and didn't want to leave. It was such a wonderful experience.

We cannot wait to have this sweet family back to enjoy all of Beaufort. This family took beautiful care of our little cottage and we so appreciate their kind words.

A wonderful family weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was absolutely perfect for our family to enjoy a weekend in Beaufort. We found everything we needed and more to make our stay comfortable. Frances and Jim were gracious and hospitable hosts. We loved the cozy bedrooms and comfy living room area, but our favorite spot was relaxing on the screened porch.

Cozy cottage with nice, comfortable furnishings.

  • 5 of 5

The property was quite lovely, a bit small for four (two active children) when the weather didn't cooperate for outside activities. Loved the live oaks and the screened in porch was the cherry on top! Mrs. Frances was quite knowledgeable of the area and willing to share her expertise. Upon arrival, we were able to get in without a hitch, which added greatly to the adventure. The beds were quite comfy and we plan to try to take full advantage of the bikes, and kayaks at a later time. Thanks Mrs. Frances and Mr. Jim for sharing your cozy cottage with us!

Owner's Response: Joan and her family were wonderful guests. We so appreciate their gentle use of our cottage. They arrived in wonderful weather only to awaken the next day to rainy overcast weather for the remainder of their stay. Our plans to get Kendal and Reed on the river in kayaks and enjoying the beach were put on hold. We hope to have the family visit in the future and enjoy the river and ocean.

Excellent Location and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

This home is ideal for relaxing as well as touring Beaufort and surrounding areas. The owner was a pleasure to work with and ensured we had everything we needed. We easily biked to the historical area of Beaufort. The home was quiet and the beds were very comfortable. Our son said he is ready to go back. We highly recommend this home!

Delightful!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is very clean and well maintained. It is located in a quiet neighborhood and is an easy walk (15-20 minutes) to the historic district. A previous post stated it did not have kitchen provisions such as salt, pepper, spices etc. This was not our experience, the kitchen was well stocked. What makes this property even more attractive are the owners, Frances and Jim. They are exceptional hosts. When we had questions or needed assistance, they responded immediately. Hunting Island is beautiful and has several nice hiking trails. We biked the Spanish Moss Trail several times (Frances provided the bikes). Thank you Frances and Jim for sharing your property and making our first trip to Beaufort an enjoyable one.
