Gorgeous Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our entire family of 3 generations loved our week together and we are all looking forward to returning next year to this quiet, comfortable, gorgeous getaway. The 5 bedrooms were exactly what we needed with the special addition of the separate efficiency apartment for our family with infant and toddler. The home was generously equipped for all of our cooking and relaxing needs. The sunset over the lake was spectacular.

July 2017 Review

  • 4 of 5

Spectacular sunsets await the visitors to 1303 Honoco Road. The house was appointed nicely and easily accommodated our three generations of family members. The private beach area was perfect for our 4 grandchildren ages 5 to 10 years old.

Christina, Steve, and Steve's dad were helpful, friendly, and immediately responded to any needs we had. The local residents were also helpful and welcoming. Two detractors to the experience were:

A. The twenty minute 10 mph trip on a two mile gravel road from the house to the nearest paved road. This added 20 minutes to each trip going to and coming from the house. This requires planning for trips for food, necessities, or just sightseeing. The nearest grocery store is about 50 minutes away. But definitely obey the 10 mph speed limit since the road is so close to the houses and children can quickly come out from nowhere.

B. The restricted flushing in the bathrooms. However, when the plumbing services were explained, one could more easily understand the required procedures.

In general, the home’s private beach, the spacious rooms with comfortable furnishings, and the exquisite views including sunsets, provided our family with a memorable escape.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. You were wonderful guests. Distractions item # A. As advertised the house is located 2.5 miles down a private 10 MpH road. It is a 4 mile dead end road. One benefit is less traffic. Renters definitely need to abide by the speed limit and enjoy the ride along the lake. We used to enjoy the twice a day trip, to and from, the property looking at the water fowl, eagles, and the lake views along the drive. There is a variety store within 30 minutes (20 minutes down Honoco and 10 minutes to the store) for small items missed at the grocery store. Item # B. The septic tank is the only means of waste disposal for the toilets, there is no leach field for the toilets, thus water conservation is necessary to allow for larger family groups. There is an estimated 500 gallon worth of flushes in the main house, additional 250 gallons in the studio and 250 gallons for the outhouse. Each toilet has 1-2 gallons per flush, except for the outhouse that is a minimal water use toilet. The toilet rules are outlined in the rental agreement provided at the time of booking. An additional fee could be arranged for those who want to pay for the pumping of the main tank (1000 gallons) for the week. We make every effort to allow an enjoyable stay for our guests. Thank you again for the review.

Overall the house was great! Rooms served us well and did not hear noise even with a full house of people. We were slightly disappointed with the beach area and boat launch - we were not able to launch either the boat or the jet ski from the property. It also would be nice if there was a ladder connected to one of the docks to make getting in and out of the water easier. We used the boat lifts, although slightly rusty (and full of spiders!) we did get them to work. House needs some updating, but was in good shape otherwise. Better instructions on where to find some of the supplies (garbage bags/toilet tissue/soap) would be helpful too! Owner was extremely helpful and answered all questions promptly via text.

Owner's Response: These renters were fabulous guests. They left the house in a very nice condition and we gave them 5-stars. In response: the home has a walk in area to the lake. We have chosen not to have a ladder from the dock as they can be dangerous. The walk in area should allow a launch of small watercraft, however, you need 4-wheel drive. This year the lake is very high and has been stormy. In addition, there is a NY State marina to launch boats: 3.5 miles from the house. We try to supply start up items, such as several garbage bags for the kitchen, paper towels, spices, laundry soap and softener, much of the other supplies are items left by previous travelers. We continue to update the home. In 2016: new beds (king and queen), new dryer, and new refrigerator for the main house. This year, 2017, We started staining the deck, however due to rain, this project is on hold for now, repaired the hoist on the north side with new boards, parts and carpet, inside: we painted all the bedrooms, renovated the upstairs bathroom, updated the dishwasher, replacement high efficiency washing machine, couch (sectional pull out sleeper), and area carpets. Future, in 2018 we plan to complete the staining of the decks and docks, update the upstairs hallway carpet and stove. We strive to make your stay comfortable and affordable, while updating on a schedule. Thank you for your review.
