This enchanting Catskill Mountain lake front house is a stones throw from the lake and is a 'home away from home'. Many windows and glass doors allow for an 'inside outside' experience with a comfortable deck overlooking the lake. Take a canoe ride or walk on the iced lake January through early March. Enjoy the peace and quiet of a 50 acre lake.
The house itself is on a small road; there is a neighboring house on one side separated by trees and foliage, with forest and lake on the other three sides. There are two bedrooms and one bath. A spiral staircase leads to the upstairs bedroom with a queensize bed, futon sleep sofa and balcony. One bedroom is downstairs with a queensize bed and you awaken looking at the lake. The living room has cathedral ceiling, glass exposures to the lakeside. There is a fully furnished kitchen. Wood-burning stove, in addition to the heating system, makes it very cozy on chilly days. There is original artwork, rugs, etc. which adds to the charm of our house. All cotton linens, with flannel for cooler weather and down comforters. Air conditioning unit in upstairs bedroom window.
Many all season activities are close by, some within minutes, others within a 30 to 45 minute drive. For example, hanggliding, gliding, hiking, rockclimbing, The ski resorts of Hunter, Windham and Belleayre are about an hour north. A smaller ski resort, Holiday Mountain (in Monticello) is 35 to 40 minutes drive.
Come and rejuvenate in a 'retreat' from worldly cares! Roam the country-side or bring books and good food and observe the lake with all it's many moods. Just recline on a sofa and look out. Down the 'hill' (15 minutes) in the small village of Ellenville, you'll find grocery stores and good restaurants. There are also pizza, deli and diners available. We are also so fortunate to have a wonderful theatre, summer stock but with some activites most of the year !

About Carroll Chisholm
New York City residents who found lakeside property to replenish on weekends during our lives there. And, now, we feel so fortunate to be here full-time and live next door to the rental property.
Carroll Chisholm purchased this House in 1988
Why Carroll Chisholm chose Ellenville
My husband and I are originally from the South and having grown up on water, we wanted a property with water !
What makes this House unique
It's such fun to watch for the various wildlife - beavers, ducks, canada geese, herons, turkeys, turtles, frogs, deer, fox, raccoons, skunks... Each season brings Bliss ! The Spring is a miracle of growth after the snows&ice of winter, summer is oh so wonderfully warm and sometimes even hot ! , the Fall is spectacular with all manner of color of leaves, etc. and the winter is 'Terrible Beauty' ... the snows and ice come and you watch it all happen and stoke the wood burning stove/ cook favorite foods and curl up being oh so cozy. But ... don't get me started about the year-round beauty !

Amazing lake front view! We enjoyed our stay in this cozy lake house.
This house had everything we needed for a long weekend away from the city. The kitchen had everything you needed from pots and pans to scissors! We cooked gourmet meals and enjoyed every minute unplugging from the grind of city life. There is a gas bbq grill as well as a charcoal bbq grill on the deck. It was a bit chilly during our stay since winter was still winding down so the indoor fire place made it extra warm and inviting. There was also an out door fire pit. We very much enjoyed our stay at this lake house escaping the noise and foot traffic of NYC!
This lovely little house.on the quiet Ulster Heights Lake was the perfect weekend getaway for my husband, daughter and I. The home was very clean and had all the amenities to make our stay cozy and comfortable. My favorite memory will always be the beautiful views of the lake and wildlife from the back and bedroom windows. Also, dealing with the owner Carol was a pleasure. Would love to return someday!
House and owners the best!
Carrol and John have been really nice hosters. The house is excellent. Clean, cozy, great location and amazing view. Thank you so mich for this wonderful weekend!
So happy you could come, Mariana. We'll be looking forward to your coming back up with your baby !!!
Sweet quiet house with welcoming owners.
Appreciated the clean and well appointed home with natural products. Lovely quiet stay!
Fantastic location for relaxing and renewing...
What a perfect week! The open, airy, and well equipped cottage, excellent WiFi, large deck with beautiful views, and very quiet and peaceful. The cottage is well cared for and was pristine with an excellent supply of organic soaps, shampoos, cleansers and creams. We arrived late afternoon, walked into the cottage and looked around and felt "at home". It was bittersweet packing and readying to leave.
Thank you for making the cottage available. We had a wonderful time at the lake.
Serenity at the Lake
I can't speak highly enough of the owners. Met John shortly after arrival. He was super nice and telling us about the wildlife around lake. We had a very unexpected, family emergency less than 24 hours after arriving and had to immediately pack and make the 12 hour trip home. Carroll and John were so understanding and kind. Carroll even checked back the next day to make sure we arrived safely and that our family member was okay. I mention this because I really feel that the kindness of the owners is truly reflected in the care and serenity of their house by the lake. I hope to someday return: meet Carroll in person and enjoy the lakehouse. As a side note--on a country road less than 5 minutes from our arrival at their house--a young black bear walked across the road in front of us! Truly exciting!!
