Overview

About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 6, 2 living rooms, pondhouse, AC

In the front is a beautiful woodland garden with rare woodland flowers and ferns, moss-covered boulders and miniature ponds. In the rear is a Japanese garden, complete with a moon bridge over a babbling brook, a waterfall you can swim behind, a pond house with a deck you can sunbathe or dive from, and a 15 ft deep by 60 ft in diameter fresh-water pond, fed by its own well. The house itself is a 2-story Craftsman masterpiece with 3 bedrooms, 2 living rooms (upstairs and down), 2 bathrooms, dining room, kitchen, den, 2nd large house deck, and stone grille. A real gem! With fine wood-paneling, yacht-like cabinetry, marvelous carvings, and blown-glass windows throughout—along with central AC and every appliance. Part of a small private community with tennis courts, marina, and beach (just 3 blocks away) you’re welcome to use. We’re also just a short distance from both Southampton and Sag Harbor with all their shops and live theaters and dining on the water.

But then you can also dine overlooking the water right at home!

About Dr. Bill Wedin

I'm a psychologist and playwright with a private pactice in New York. I have taken courses in Japanese and Chinese garden design at the New York Botanical Garden and have employed top designers as consultants. I have also studied the Arts & Crafts & Art Nouveau Movements at the New School and have employed top designers in these areas also. I have used top local craftsmen and artists inside and out.

Dr. Bill Wedin purchased this house in 1977

Why Dr. Bill Wedin chose Hamptons

My house and grounds are romantic, restful, and at the same time, fun. There are rare ferns, orchids, water lilies, & water irises to delight the eye. And a deep, cool, clear, freshwater pond that's all your own. If you have kids, they can have a whole floor to themselves, plus the pondhouse. Yet they're never too far away. And even in the summer it's often cool enough to snuggle by the fire. It's like having a mountain cabin and a beachouse all in one.

What makes this house unique

If you read the reviews, you'll find that many couples wind up spending all their time right here. That's because of the care and imagination that's gone into every part of the property. Like the carvings in the upstairs bedrooms that tell the story of Moby Dick. Where else?

A perfect little refuge

  • 5 of 5

Dr. Wedin's house is charming, comfortable, tastefully designed and furnished, and with everything you need and then some--the adjustable charcoal grill, the pond, the lush garden and peaceful deck. There are tennis courts and a baseball field two minutes walk away, and it's ten minutes on foot to a beautiful private beach (two minutes by car). The three bedrooms are comfortable, the kitchen fully equipped; the place is immaculately clean and air-conditioned, and the owners very responsive to any questions you might have. Our family of three had a wondeful stay.

Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Pictures and description of the rental didn't even come close to how beautiful this place was! Not a day went by without our discovering something new and beautiful in both the grounds and the house itself. The owner was so very gracious in providing not only necessary information about the home but also recreation and dining in the area. We arrived late in the evening and were pleasantly surprised that the owner had provided fruit and condiments etc. which enabled us to snack before we turned in the first night. The owner also upon hearing that our oldest was an artist and nature photography buff, provided photos of plantings that were trimmed back right before our arrival. Attention to detail on everything was outstanding and we could not have asked for a better stay. Already planning our stay for next year!

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

This house is so well loved by it's owners you can feel it. My stay exceeded my expectations - the owners were great and the caretaker was totally available for whatever issues I had. The place we extremely clean and comfortable, beautiful details everywhere, amazing fireplace, and such beautifully maintained grounds that were such a pleasure to enjoy. It truly was hard to ever leave the grounds, but when you do there is plenty to do. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a peaceful escape, who loves nature, and would enjoy a cozy beautiful house that is not too fancy. Big plus for me - you can walk to a gorgeous bay beach. And coffee on the deck of the screened in house at the pond is one of life's great pleasures. A great retreat alone or with friends and family.

Taking The Cure

  • 5 of 5

My family and I rented this house for ten days this summer and we LOVED it. The house is the coziest cabin ever. It is well stocked with everything from beach chairs to great DVDs to all you need in the kitchen to cook all the fresh produce you can by at the farm stand down the road. The bay beach is only a 10 minute walk away. OR you can stay home and hang out at the POND. The pond is AMAZING. I highly recommend staying up late on clear night to look at the stars while the crickets and frogs serenade you. If you are as lucky as me you'll see a shooting star.

Idyllic Private Setting

  • 5 of 5

Who knew that when you are staying only a short walk from the beach you could feel like you are in the Adirondacks? This house is a perfect retreat from City life. It is beautifully constructed, close to everything and is very hard to leave. The owners are gems to deal with and the house is clean as can be. We hope to be back!
