About Jenny Carrington
I am English by birth but have lived in the Santa Cruz area since 1980 and love it here. I am energetic, have a great sense of humor, love to travel and discover the mysteries the world has to offer. I am also an avid reader and member of two book clubs. I enjoy movies, good food, meeting new people and everything about this part of California. An afternoon sailing on the Monterey Bay with friends is one of my most favorite things do.
Jenny Carrington purchased this Studio in 1999
Why Jenny Carrington chose Watsonville
Since coming to California it was always my dream to own a little piece of it for myself and my family, however tiny. Having lived in several countries before arriving on these shores, Santa Cruz was my destination of choice, and I couldn't have chosen anywhere better. Finally after a lot of hard work, I was able to buy a house which has been a work in progress ever since. Be careful what you dream for!
What makes this Studio unique
I am often told how unusual and eclectic my little house is, both inside and out. Growing up in England and having lived in houses built hundreds of years ago, I particularly like the older architecture in California and enjoy the features of the farm house style, especially the ones made from the old growth redwood as mine is. There is something organic and arts and crafts about the structure and I strive to keep that alive in all the renovations I have done over the years. My love of gardening completes the picture.

Extremely comfortable bed with very clean and comfortable environment with ample privacy! Unique and cozy! Centrally located to Pajaro n Aptos! It’s a “Real Retreat”!
Cozy, Charming and Quaint.
We stayed at this wonderful little studio for 2 nights and couldn't have been happier. Jenny was such a sweet and gracious host. The studio was extremely comfortable and clean. The yard and sitting shed was such a bonus. We just wished we had another few days. Will definitely be back.
Cozy California charm!
LOVED staying at Jenny’s cozy studio! It made a great homebase for day trips. Jenny is so hospitable and kind; she’s made a cozy, quiet, and comfortable space to rest! Thank you!!!
A great location for visiting the areas around Monterey and Santa Cruz. Comfortable.
Jenny has all the details down to a T. Her recommendations for local restaurants were excellent. The guest notebook was well-stocked with maps and brochures for various area attractions. The studio, garden and outside sitting areas were quiet and comfortable. If we are back in Watsonville, we would be contacting Jenny as a first choice for lodging.
Thanks so much for your stellar review, I enjoyed meeting you both and am so happy you had a good time.
Fabulous Getaway Spot
We loved our time at the studio. It's the perfect size for two people. We were greeted by the owners charming dog, Bunny upon arrival and we met the owner soon after. Jenny was lovely and showed us the basics of the house and the yard. Day trips to Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Big Sur were all fantastic. We had a fabulous dinner at Shadowbrook complete with an elevator ride down the hill to the restaurant. Jenny provided lots or recommendations for places to go and places to eat. The studio had a full sized fridge, electric kettle, French press coffee maker, microwave, plates and silverware. There were plenty of fresh towels and the bed was extremely comfortable. We enjoyed Jenny's eclectic art collection and the guest book complete with a history of the studio and photos of her grandmother surfing in the 1920's. The studio is the perfect place to get away yet still be right in the heart of everything. We will definitely be back.
Thank you so much for your wonderfully complimentary review. So glad you liked my recommendations and that you both had such good time. I was sorry not to have a chance to wish you bon voyage but I think you must have left at the crack of dawn! You were great guests and are welcome back any time.
Incredibly peaceful and charming!
Jenny has such great taste. The studio is cozy and comfy. Everywhere you look there is something interesting, most art and little decorations. The studio is very clean and stocked w all you would need for a little getaway. Not a far drive to Santa Cruz, and it’s a beautiful drive. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Nestled in the inner section of the Monterey Bay coastline, away from the fog zone, this comfy cottage studio is the perfect quiet and private getaway. Close to some of the most spectacular scenery in California and excellent restaurants, wineries and breweries, you will never be short of something to do. Close by are miles of beautiful beaches, whale watching, sailing, kayaking, biking, hiking, parachuting, zip lining , birding, sunset gazing and people watching. What's not to love about this place where I'm so lucky to live. Halfway between Monterey and Santa Cruz, you have the chance to get the best of both worlds. South to Moss Landing, Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur with the breathtaking views and beaches, state parks, galleries, restaurants, museums, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row, just to name a few. Also mouthwatering seafood everywhere.
Then north to Santa Cruz, with more state parks, beautiful beaches, the excitement of the famous Boardwalk, the crazy Mystery Spot, great restaurants and movie theaters, wine tours and every outdoor activity you could dream of. There are loads of information brochures for you to peruse in the studio.
You will have the whole studio space to yourself, completely private and detached from the main house, and just a short walk through the garden. Also there is a little patio area just outside and a comfy sitting area in the Gazebo (aka The Red Shed). There is plenty of off road parking. Drive through the gate nearest the mailboxes. Carry on straight past the house and park in front of the garage. Go through the gate on the left of the garage, then turn immediately right and the studio will be just through the garden on the right.
Please text or phone me if you have any questions or if you need anything. There is a binder with restaurant suggestions and also pamphlets for things to do in the area. I have lived in this area for over 35 years, so am happy to give suggestions.
Watsonville is a unique farming community, with wonderful organic and large scale farms. There are some of the best Mexican restaurants around and we are just a short distance going north to Santa Cruz and south to Moss Landing, Monterey and Carmel, where you will find great seafood restaurants, wineries and stores. The closest supermarkets are Safeway and Nob Hill. There is a wonderful local winery called Windy Oaks that has picnic sites and spectacular views of the bay. Corralitos Brewery is just around the corner. The Wooden Nickel, funky bar on Freedom Blvd has the best burgers around (the Nickel Burger is my personal favorite) and Cafe Rio at Seascape Beach has fine dining and a separate little coffee shop to enjoy morning coffee with a beach view. So many things to do around here.
Uber is established in the area and also other taxi services.
There is bus service close by, just a few minutes walk and it's only a five minute drive to Hwy 1 to go either north to Santa Cruz or south to Moss Landing (great seafood restaurants), Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur.
