Hi my name is Marga, born and raised in the Netherlands. My husband Nicolaas and I have lived in the low country for the last 25 years. We bought Mr Hewlett House an engineer, who had orchid hothouses, the orchids were sold all over the country. The main house was renovated, we added a story to it and the office was 10 years later changed into this cottage.
Why Marga chose Ladys Island
We love living on the water and in nature, used to have a Hans Christian sailing boat which my husband sailed from SF to Beaufort in 1993. This is a deep water property and has 11 ft at low tide. Dolphins are swimming by daily.
What makes this Cottage unique
We enjoy our neighbors, they are the best. Our day is made when we see dolphins swim by, which is almost daily. Fishing is most of the time great! Beautiful full moons.

wonderful short stay. So close to everything you might need and places to see.
We had a short little vacation. Marga was such a sweet thoughtful host. She left wonderful snacks but we were so busy taking in the sights we didn't really have time to enjoy all of them. She even had fresh eggs from her chickens! The location is ideal. It is only about 10 minutes from Beaufort and around 15 minutes to Hunting island beach, which happened to be the demise of our trip. My husband got a terrible sun burn so we shortened our trip. If you want to be close to everything, this is a wonderful choice.
Excellent, very quiet and peaceful
Thank you for your 4 star commend, what can I do to improve to get a 5 star, love to know.!
Enjoyed you as a guest, knowing this was the right place for you.
Anything I can improve on to make the place more comfortable
pls let me know.
Peaceful Pleasure in a beautiful location
My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and 65th birthdays. We arrived to find flowers, a chilled bottle of Prosecco, a dozen fresh eggs from the owner's chickens and a basket of snacks! The cottage is very well located for a stay in the Beaufort area, close to town but tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Although it's on the owner's property, it's far enough for lots of privacy, and the owner gave us all the space we wanted but was available to help with anything. The cottage was just the right size for a couple, with a complete kitchen, dining area and comfortable living area with flat screen tv. The bathroom was well stocked with loads of towels and the bedroom had a very comfortable bed and lovely Italian linens, along with another flatscreen tv. There is an attached laundry room. The best aspect of this rental, however, is access to the deep water dock that extends into the large creek. There are comfortable lounge chairs where you can sit and watch dolphins swimming by and ospreys building their nest. The view is unbeatable. My husband fished off the dock nearly every day.
Everything was extremely clean and we had everything we needed. The owner was pleasant and easy to work with, responding very quickly both before and during our stay. It was a pleasure staying here and we quickly felt like we were in our own home. There is lots to do in the area and it's a quick trip to Charleston and Savannah. We hope to return.
It has a lot of potential but little has been realized.
Owner attempted nice touches with wine, fresh flowers and snacks. However the furniture was old, dated and not in good condition. There were spider webs in corners filled with dead bugs. Most importantly to us the access to the water was not how it was portrayed on the VRBO site.
With all due respect this critique is unfair. Contacted cleaning crew, spiderweb with dead bugs was outside in corner. Most important on VRBO page it states cottage is located on OWNERS deep water property, you have and had dock access at all times, which you and your wife used most of the first day in 2 lounge chairs provided.
I am sorry you were not a happy customer. we are here to please and stand by that. I was not happy about not being contacted about lost keys before you left.
Cute little house with great water access
We stayed 3 nights and it was a great experience. Marga was a good host providing coffee and little snacks. The property is very pretty and the river is even more beautiful. We enjoyed kayaking in the river and sitting on the dock watching a dolphin swim by. Marga was even gracious enough to mail a bathing suit we left to us (and even washed it!).
Thanks again, we greatly enjoyed it.
Thank you for your nice review, glad the bathing suit arrived!
Hope you will come back soon, the dolphins are here most afternoons!
Great guest, thank you,
Beautiful, quiet cottage on an elegant estate
Comfortable, well appointed place. Very attentive owner, but she left us to ourselves. We had planned on visiting Hilton Head and Tybee Island, but we found so much in Beaufort and loved the cottage so much, we never had to travel far! There is more to explore, cycle, kayak, and enjoy than we could ever exhaust! Thank you so much.
😊 Thank you so much for being my guests, please come back soon!
