About Monica Morgan

Spent my 20's living on the Bon Secour River. Had rental properties for many years and decided this year to try VRBO. It's always fun having people visit and really enjoy the Bon Secour River and all the Alabama Gulf Coast has to offer.

Monica Morgan purchased this house in 2016

Why Monica Morgan chose Bon Secour

The Boatslip and deck were put in this winter. Take the crab trap out and catch tons of crab. Or throw a castnet for mullet. Fall in love with the dolphins and abundant wildlife we have to explore in the Bon Secour delta wildlife reserve. Beaches are close with restaurants and lots of fun tourist activities. Then wind down in a super comfy house where you can stretch out and not have the traffic and noise.

It is great to just drive up and just walk in with your clothes. Property has Direct TV and Internet.

Outside the back door is a large garden with herbs and vegetables. We built a private outdoor shower with hot/cold water, table/mirror and its lots of fun.

What makes this house unique

Peaceful retreat and staying in a Southern style home. Oak trees draped with Spanish Moss. A huge 1 acre grass yard. Everyone that I have taken to the property is impressed with the amount of space to enjoy. (don't forget the outdoor shower) Far more enjoyable than a condo or apartment complex. If you are like me, privacy is blissful. Bird watching, gardening, walk to buy shrimp 3 houses away, swing on a huge oak, launch your kayak, waterski, and more. Tin Top restaurant is less than 1 mile and is a local favorite. The oyster shucker is a kick, there are 2 bars and sport events are shown in each dining area. Their seafood is really fresh and they have lots of signature dishes.

3 Weeks in Bon Review

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I, and our 2 year old bernadoodle, spent 3 weeks at the "Waterfront Home" in Bon Secour and enjoyed every minute of it. The weather was cool which was a plus for us. We were able to take the dog for walks each morning and found 3 places fairly close where dogs were welcome, Fort Morgan, west of Gulf Shores, Gulf State Park and the Pitcher Plant Board Walk. There are probably more had we kept looking but these worked just fine.

We enjoyed the Swift-Coles house tour (only open 2 days a week so check.) The Gulf Shores Zoo is small but very clean and was a nice place to visit. The Gulf Shores beach is very clean and fun to walk along ( "no dogs.) Fair Hope pier and park is worth the trip and the area is dog friendly. The downtown shops are worth a visit. Try the Sassy Bass (Crazy Donuts) for something different.

The area is very quiet, the house is older but well kept, and well equipped. The fridge and dishwasher appeared to be new. The TV and internet worked just fine. The property owner is very pleasant and very responsive, she certainly made us feel welcome and wants to make sure you stay is as good as possible. We had looked at another property close by to stay at and decided we lucked out when we found this property, it is a much better location.

While visiting with the owner, we found out she does boat tours so we had a 1/2day tour of the river and the Bay. We encountered 6 or so dolphins which was really cool! The owner is very knowledgeable about the area so it was an informative boat ride as well.

We found several really good places to eat within 15 minutes or so of the house. The highlight for my wife was the fresh shrimp. We preferred Safe Harbor Seafood which is right across the river from the house, about a 1 minute drive or a 4 minute walk away. There other vendors close by also worth trying.

Overall it was a very relaxing stay and all 3 of us gave the property a high rating.

Owner's Response: Thank you for a great rating! You were the most perfect tenants. Enjoyed the boat trip along the river with you as well. I appreciate having guests that love this special home and that you left the house clean and tidy. Hope we meet again and happy travels to you and your awesome dog, Mandy.

Nice spot. Amenities badly misrepresented

  • 3 of 5

My wife and I spent a week in June at this property in Bon Secour, Al. We liked the area and we were for the most part satisfied with the house, however, if it had been accurately advertised we wouldn't have booked it. The second sentence of the overview of the property states," The house is equipped with 3 TVS and Internet. The amenities section of the ad lists cable/ satellite. We arrived to find one, 37 inch tv with an antenna. No cable, no Internet. Also listed under amenities were, bicycles, exercise room/equipment, a raft. None of these were present. While we for the most part, enjoyed our stay, we wouldn't have considered this house if it had been accurately advertised. I contacted the owner several times, after our $2500 deposit was returned, pointed out the misrepresentations in her listing and suggested that she correct them. On July 24th, the ad reads exactly like it did when we booked. It is a fairly nice house in a nice quiet area, it isn't, however, all that the owner claims that it is.

Disappointed for price

  • 3 of 5

First time staying here, but won't be back. Owner was very slow about returning calls for help. No modern coffee pot, grass need mowed. Pier was less than desirable. Shower was unpleasant.

Its quaint but updated with lots of special touches.

  • 5 of 5

My college friend flew in from California. It was incredible exploring the wildlife up and down the river. The huge yard was a plus for the dog. It was July so lightening and thunder storms came through each afternoon keeping it cool. Beds were comfortable and kitchen was practical. The natural gas Weber BBQ was amazing for the fresh shrimp we got from Freddy Stewart just 3 houses away. We went to Gulf Shores a few times and enjoyed the beautiful sand beach. Fairhope was also a jewel.

Plan to return next year for another reunion.

A wonderful time enjoying the Bon Secour River home.

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed the month we spent in this lovely home on the Bon Secour River. We used the front and back decks for reading, sunning, and gas grilling. The location of the property is truly off the beatin trail, allowing for no crowds, and a quiet restful vacation. There was always a nice breeze, while the Gulf of Mexico was always windy and 10 degrees cooler. The home was very nice and comfortable for my husband and myself. Monica was very gracious and willing to supply us anything we needed. The home is well stocked with dishes, pots and pans etc. We especially enjoyed going to the fresh shrimp shops right in the neighborhood to buy our fish and shrimp. It was delicious! We also enjoyed the YMCA in Foley, where we could work out, use the pool and hot tub. The whole area is amazing with ready access from the Bon Secour River to the intercostal water way to the Gulf of Mobil to the Gulf of Mexico. We did not bring our boat, but it would be a great place to have one. Im sure the fishing is tremendous. We did see several dolphins swimming at Billies Shrimp and Fish shop. Thanks for making our trip so memorable! We plan to be back next year!
