"The Sett" is named after a Badger Den - its pine walls, wood stove set in a beautiful stone fireplace wall and tile bathroom and kitchen provide a cozy home for your stay! (It is also a reflection of our heritage from Wisconsin where we met and cheered badger sports teams! We especially love all sports fans and all Big 10 fans!)

About Jill Hatton
Our family has owned vacation property on Squam Lake since 1996. Over the past 20 years we have purchased several homes on Grapevine Cove - a peaceful cove leading directly into big Squam Lake - to accommodate our family including four children, friends and family. We love the beauty of Squam Lake during all four seasons - from boating, fishing, swimming and water skiing in the summer to cross country skiing, ice skating and snowshoeing in the winter!
Jill Hatton purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why Jill Hatton chose Holderness
The cabin offers a relaxing, peaceful stay in a convenient location with access to Squam Lake and nearby outdoor attractions of the White Mountains. Recently renovated, it features pine walls and wood floors, a fully applianced kitchen with dishwasher and microwave and tile bath with a walk in shower (no bathtub). The rental includes a boat slip in Grapevine Cove providing access to Big Squam for fishing, boating or other lake activities.

Lovely little getaway!
We had such a fantastic time at the Sett! It's a beautiful location and a beautiful little cottage! It was perfect for my husband, myself and our 1 year old daughter. Jill and her husband were there if we had any questions and made sure that our stay was relaxing. We would definitely stay there again when we come back to Squam and would recommend it to family and friends. Thanks again, Jill and Gary!
Wonderful stay at a beautiful cabin!
My wife and I stayed for three days at The Sett and absolutely loved it. Squam Lake is so incredibly beautiful and peaceful to begin with, and we couldn't imagine a better place for a couple than The Sett. It is conveniently located next to a cove and the Squam Lake Association, where we rented a kayak for a few days. The Sett has all you could possibly need for a few relaxing days in the woods. We would absolutely stay here again!
Jill and Gary are wonderful hosts! They loved sharing their beautiful cottage with us. Cottage was clean and just as described. We used the fireplace every day which made for a cozy comfy home away from home. Great location! Will definitely return.
Beautifully quaint yet modern amenities. Spotless and comfy. Jill is a great hostess!
This little treasure would be a treat and great fun in any season. Bedrooms have comfy beds and plenty of closet storage. Bathroom is perfect with beautiful walk-in shower. Kitchen is all you need with stainless steel appliances including dishwasher. Kitchen shelves have everything that you need to cook and serve. And there is a coffee maker and toaster for breakfast! We literally ate out once during our stay otherwise we were making lunch sandwiches and cooking on the grill for dinners. The living room area is spacious and warm with a heat monitor, wood stove and a couch and comfy rocking chair. There is a flat screen TV with cable and there is wireless.
I think the best part of this cabin is how much the owner, Jill, loves it and how she goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and at home. There is a welcome book with directives and instructions for everything. She provides all sorts of pamphlets for local attractions and trails/hikes. And beyond that, she asks that you contact her with any issues, questions or needs and she is readily available. This rental and Jill are a model for all VRBO/HomeAway experiences.
I rented 'The Sette' based upon the feedback and comments I read here and I was not disappointed. The people who rented prior to me saw all of the beauty and value in this opportunity and now I see it, too. It is affordable yet over the top as far as what you get to enjoy during your stay. Clearly, I can't say enough good things about the experience. The most impactful is that I intend to continue to rent ' the Sette' :)
Perfect summer rental!
We were extremely pleased with Jill's cabin on Squam Lake. Very clean with all of the items you would need for a week-long stay. We found it very quiet and especially loved spending time on the open porch. We were very happy to be able to bring our boat and explore Squam Lake. Host was very gracious and we especially loved the complimentary bottle of wine. Thank you so much! We hope to return next year
Beautiful little cabin!
Our family has been vacationing in the Squam Lakes area for three generations, and we were thrilled to find The Sett. We rented both the Sett and it's sister cottage, Turtle Lodge, for a week and had a great experience! Jill was there to meet us when we arrived - she is a wonderfully kind host and was available for anything we would have needed. She was very gracious and quick with information when we asked. The houses are well stocked and it's clear Jill has thought about what you'd want to enjoy your stay; we didn't need anything at all once we arrived.
The houses are both roomier and just as clean as the pictures imply - we have had experiences in the past with vacation rentals which have not been clean when we arrived, but the Sett and Turtle Lodge were exactly as advertised, which means a lot with multiple toddlers in the family! We did not feel crowded in the Sett at all (and we really enjoyed the wood stove), and the kids loved the yard out front of Turtle Lodge. We also hosted family members staying elsewhere for dinner at Turtle Lodge, and we loved the big, open dining area. There was plenty of room for everyone, plenty of parking, and the kitchen is large and convenient.
The beach for the Sett (which is an enjoyable 2-minute walk from the house on a private road) was a gem. The kids loved the sand, and the view from there is spectacular. The area is private and peaceful though convenient to the main road. Grapevine Cove is a friendly little community, and we enjoyed being part of it for a week!
In short, we had a wonderful time, and we can't wait for our next trip! Many thanks, Jill!
The cabin is conveniently located near restaurants, shopping and local attractions. Visit the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center which is only a 5 minute drive! Meredith, Centre Harbor and Plymouth are all charming areas within a 15-20 minute drive and offer year round restaurant and shopping choices. Hiking abounds with nearby popular hikes including Rattlesnake, Cotton and Livermore Mountains. Skiing is nearby with Loon and Waterville within a 35-40 minute drive. Since we are 10 minutes from Meredith this is a great location to stay if you are playing in or a fan of the New England Pond Hockey Tournament!!
