About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom Cabin with access to Squam Lake

The Sett is a charming, bucolic two-bedroom cabin set among trees. Your rental includes use of a beach parcel and boat slip on Grapevine Cove leading out to Big Squam Lake accessed via a short 3-minute walk from the cabin on private gravel roads in our quaint neighborhood.

This recently renovated cabin is a year round retreat with a wood stove and wrap around porch with rocking chairs!

"The Sett" is named after a Badger Den - its pine walls, wood stove set in a beautiful stone fireplace wall and tile bathroom and kitchen provide a cozy home for your stay! (It is also a reflection of our heritage from Wisconsin where we met and cheered badger sports teams! We especially love all sports fans and all Big 10 fans!)

In the summer, bring your boat or rent one from one of the nearby marinas. Enjoy fishing and swimming on Big Squam Lake from your dedicated boat slip with beach and lake access a 3-minute walk on private roads in our small neighborhood. In the winter, bring your snowmobile or snowshoe or cross country ski onto Squam Lake with lake access from our private beach parcel.

If you enjoy swimming and hiking in the summer or cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter you will love the location of this cabin! We are close to many hiking trails - beginner and experienced! The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is a 5 minute drive and numerous other family activities are available in the area as we are a 5-15 minute drive away from "downtown" Holderness, Centre Harbor, Meredith and Plymouth.

Once you finish with your daily activities you can relax in our cozy cabin featuring pine walls or you can stay connected with our internet and basic cable. Enjoy the wood burning stove in the winter or our rocking chairs on the wraparound deck in the spring, summer or fall!

The cabin offers two bedrooms - one with a queen bed and the other with two twin beds. The cabin has one bathroom with a walk-in tile shower and a dishwasher in the fully equipped kitchen (including a blender!).

About Jill Hatton

Our family has owned vacation property on Squam Lake since 1996. Over the past 20 years we have purchased several homes on Grapevine Cove - a peaceful cove leading directly into big Squam Lake - to accommodate our family including four children, friends and family. We love the beauty of Squam Lake during all four seasons - from boating, fishing, swimming and water skiing in the summer to cross country skiing, ice skating and snowshoeing in the winter!

Why Jill Hatton chose Holderness

The cabin offers a relaxing, peaceful stay in a convenient location with access to Squam Lake and nearby outdoor attractions of the White Mountains.

The cabin is set among trees in our family compound and we love relaxing on the wraparound porch in a rainstorm or enjoying playing cards next to the wood stove in the fall. Recently renovated, it features pine walls and wood floors, a fully applianced kitchen with dishwasher and microwave and tile bath with a walk in shower (no bathtub). The rental includes a boat slip in Grapevine Cove providing access to Big Squam for fishing, boating or other lake activities.

What makes this cabin unique

The location of the cabin is convenient to nearby restaurants in Holderness, Meredith, Centre Harbor and Plymouth, NH - all within 5-20 minute drives. In addition, numerous hiking trails and ski slopes are nearby and the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is 5 minutes away in Holderness.

Beautiful area of NH

  • 4 of 5

Jill was extremely helpful when we asked questions for directions! We were in an ideal area as we were visiting family within a few miles of their vacation home which made visiting very easy yet we had our own space.

The area of Holderness is quite beautiful and unique with very good access to other areas within New England. The weather was not the best during our stay, no one can control that. Usually it is very good weather in the summer months.

Yes we would recommend the cottage to all.

Fantastic, relaxing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was perfect - clean, comfortable, private, and well equipped. The beach/dock area was an ideal place to relax with family. Chairs, small table, and umbrella were provided for us and it was only a 2 minute walk from the cabin. We rented a canoe from the Squam Lake Association which was a 4 minute walk and had so much fun on the beautiful lake. We are definitely coming back. Jill and Gary were perfect hosts.

Charming Cabin on Beautiful Lake Squam

  • 5 of 5

Our family truly enjoyed the cabin. Everything you need. Jill and Gary were very helpful, and available. My young boys enjoyed playing by the dock, catching fish, tadpoles, and attempting to capture the catfish family. We, as a family, enjoyed exploring the Lake with a boat rental which was easy to manage. Look forward to coming back next year.

Wonderful Summer Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time at the Sett. It is beautiful, comfortable and cozy, and the kitchen has everything you need. We lived on the porch, enjoying the weather and the sound of the crickets and birds. Jill checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed the dock and getting out in the water and soaking up the sun. There was so much to do around the area....hiking, canoeing, eating out, and visiting the nearby towns. What a great week. We hope to return again next year!
