Known by the Cherokee Indians as "the land of the blue mist", Western North Carolina is truly a extraordinary place. It is here that majestic peaks mesmerize, rushing streams entice, fertile valleys call you to stretch out and relax, and air so fresh, you'll wonder if you ever breathed a fresh breathe before. The Smoky mountains have had our family smitten well over 2 decades. Conveniently located 30 min. to Asheville, where you'll be greeted to (and have a hard time choosing) a premier culinary and craft beer scene but our crown jewel, Biltmore Estate, should not be missed. We've come in every season and every season does not disappoint; each one flourishing in it own glorious way! We open our front door and welcome you to share in our blessing, aptly named NC Stress Relief.
12 years ago, we were blessed to plan and custom build, my husband's dream; this cozy log cabin with luxurious decor on over 2.5 acres in a quiet neighborhood with no rear neighbors, views of purchase knob and long range views, from the dining room and back deck and only 10 minutes to historic Waynesville. You'll think you just stepped into a Norman Rockwell painting with its downtown brick lined sidewalks that open up to quaint shops, galleries and restaurants. You'll soon realize that you didn't just book a vacation, you booked an experience, one that steps you a little back in time..to a little slower pace of life.
Whether your on a romantic getaway for 2 or a fun filled vacation with family and friends of 6, as soon as you pull into the hemlock lined driveway with view of purchase knob, you'll sense you made it to sweet Appalachia. Our cabin is designed to comfort your mountain soul.
The front porch swing beckons you for your morning cup of coffee as the sun rises over the mountains. You'll long to stay there to listen to the night songs of the katydids. On the back deck, enjoy the rockers or wine bar to salute the sunset over the gorgeous mountain views. Give cheer and a toast for the day spent well here. On starry nights, the kids will love catching fire flies in mason jars, playing a game of corn hole, roasting marshmallows and/or s'mores 'round the outdoor fire pit. Take a seat in the oversized Adirondack chairs to watch the flames dance while relishing the cool mountain breezes.
The living room, has been furnished by High County Furniture & Designs located in Waynesville, NC. You'll sink into either the leather sofa, leather recliner or oversized chair to warm up by a crackling fire in our uniquely designed river rock fireplace and hand hewn mantle. Watch a movie with Direct TV, DVR satellite service or surf the high speed internet. Games, puzzles and a variety of children & adult DVD's are provided. Gather around The hand made dining table to break bread to swoon over the expansive view of the mountains. On winter nights, you can see the lighted slopes of Cataloochee Ski area.
You'll wake refreshed from the King size master bed and egyptian cotton sheets. Enjoy a jacuzzi bath to start your day.
Notice the juniper logs fitted in the hand rail as you may your way upstairs to the 2nd bedroom where you find His & Hers antique black walnut queen and full sized beds, lovingly restored, and fitted with soft sheets and matching warm quilts. Direct TV DVR Satellite service is in this room. The 2nd full bathroom is located here and perfect for bathing smaller children.
A custom barn wood queen loft bed fitted with soft sheets and a warm quilt make this loft bedroom the place everyone will fight over. Open to the downstairs, you'll watch the reflection of the embers dance on the ceiling before going out for the evening. Open the blinds to see the night sky filled will so many stars it will take your breath away.
There are so many things to do and we are centrally located about 30 minutes in any direction for: hiking, biking, white water rafting, zip lining, fly fishing, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, rock climbing, cave spelunking, horseback riding, snow skiing, snow boarding, Harrah's Casino in Cherokee, festivals and street dances and shopping. Peruse world class art galleries from weavers to potters, painters to metalsmiths, glassblowers to woodcrafters. There is so much to do, that you'll have a hard time finding time to fit it all in. Most of all, we hope you take the time to pause here, to take a little rest, even for just a moment and find some stress relief. When you travel back home and reflect, we bet you'll find you left a piece of your heart right here in sweet Appalachia.

About Jennifer Gall
Gary and I met, fell in love, married and raised our family in New Port Richey, FL (north of Tampa) for the past 30 years. Yes, this September (2106) will mark our 30th Anniversary. Yay for us! We've owned and operated an air conditioning/Heating company for the past 17 years. The weather here is kind of conducive to our success. We have been blessed with 3 beautiful kids, who are really spread out in age, but close siblings. In addition to our kids, we have an wonderful son-in-law and two precious grandchildren, who call us Papa and Mimi. Of course we cannot forget our golden retriever who thinks he is human, Jake. Our eldest daughter is now 28. When she was just going into kindergarten, our neighbors, at the time, told us that we needed a vacation. They knew that us pretty well and knew we loved to collect quirky antiques. They told us that we were "old souls" and that we'd love Waynesville; they had been coming for years! Gary was raised in Indiana and I was raised in Western NY- we both needed to "pause" for a moment and enjoy the Fall season.
Jennifer Gall purchased this Cabin in 2004
Why Jennifer Gall chose Jonathan Creek
One visit to Western North Carolina was all it took- we were smitten and our hearts were never the same. Every fall, we looked forward to taking our daughter out of school during 1 week to come to most spectacular time of the year and especially during the Waynesville Apple Festival. This went on for 6 more years, until we adopted our 2nd daughter from China. Her first vacation was in the fall season was right in WNC. We planned the same fall vacation for our 2 girls, only this time included visiting Biltmore Estate during Easter and winter Skiing at Cataloochee. We've been dreaming of living in these mountains forever! Shortly thereafter, we bit the bullet and acquired the 2.6 acres the cabin sits on. It was that huge oak tree and all the trees on the property that were the selling point. Fast forward, in 2003, I became pregnant, with my "late in life" son. We prayed what to do about our property, knowing we were starting over again, we thought the dream to live here was over. My husband felt prompted to build his dream log cabin. We moved in our cabin August 2004, two months after our son was born. Our eldest, had just 2 more years of HS, but I would bring the other 2 and spend the entire summers here. We have spent every Thanksgiving here especially to go the tree farm to a Christmas tree to bring it to Florida. We've spent several Christmas' here but nothing like the one 5 years ago, when we got snowed in for 4 days! They only plow state roads. Fun at first, but after day 3, I was done and wanted off the mountain! We have so many memories of the kids chasing fire flies in mason jars with the neighbors, campfires that light up the autumn sky, the crunch of the leaves under foot as we hiked up and down this mountain, sipping hot cocoa, toasting marshmallows, being curled by the roaring fire on a chilly night, making sugar cookies for Santa, visiting waterfalls, playing in the streams, hiking. Our favorite is just behold that amazing view the Lord gave us
What makes this Cabin unique
We think you'll agree, whether you are cooking some trout over the fire pit in the driveway area or just rocking on the back porch, the view of purchase knob and the mountains are pretty special here. The wooded lot keeps the cabin cool during summertime and protected during winter winds. When the rain, listening to it fall on the metal roof, could just lull you to sleep. On starry nights, whether your outside enjoying the fire pit or in the loft bedroom, look up and gaze at the panoramic heavenlies. Its enough to make you wonder with a profound sense of awe. The mountains just have this way of causing you to "pause" and be still. They capture your heart and you find that you can find enough descriptive words to describe how they make you feel while your here. We hope you find the same awe, beauty and majesty that we've found here and return time and time again for your own pause and enjoy some NC Stress Relief.

Beautiful Area, Special Home
We came, we saw, we skied, we snow tubed! The Smokies never disappoint when it comes to natural beauty and neither does NCSR Cabin. The home is wonderfully decorated to create an environment of peace and tranquility. The house was unbelievably clean when we arrived and the owners were extremely responsive when we had a question. If you want a quaint mountain getaway, I can’t imagine looking any further.
Family Fun !
We visit the Mointains every year and hope to be able to stay in this lovely home again sometime soon . Owners are very helpful and there to help if needed .
The property was beautiful.
The house was beautiful and very well maintained. Everything was provided. We only brought our clothes, books and hiking maps. The kitchen is always key for me and this kitchen was perfect. It had everything I needed to cook for our family, cookware was very good quality, ample supply of nice dishes and everything needed to set a beautiful table. Could have spent more time there at the cabin but there's so much to do in the area. We all loved it and had a great time there. Can't wait to go back.
Couldn't have been better
Jennifer and Gary's place is just a gem. Every detail is perfect. The home is beautiful and perfectly furnished. It feels like your dream mountain vacation home from the moment you walk onto the porch.
We booked for three nights in October 2017--our family of five (kids aged 5, 4 and 2) plus grandma drove up from Atlanta. I don't think any of us would have complained if we had never left (Is the home for sale? How's the job market up there?).
The reviews I read before booking insisted that the photos on VRBO/HomeAway--as nice as they are--do not come close to showing how beautiful the place actually is. And they were right.
Jennifer was an extremely courteous hostess, ensuring we had a list of family fun activities for our first trip to the Smokies. And she helped us plan a trip to celebrate Mass at the Basilica of St. Laurence in Asheville (Catholics and/or architect buffs--it's an absolute must do).
The weather wasn't great for us and our trip was too short, but we still had a vacation so pleasant and relaxing that we can't wait to rent from Jennifer and Gary again. If the weather stinks, you want to be in a "cabin" like this--you'll never be twiddling your thumbs looking for something to do. Jennifer and Gary have thought of everything.
This is the 4th family vacation we've taken in recent years where we've rented a house/condo over the internet. While I'd still MUCH rather book over the phone (HomeAway's fee's are outrageously high and should be avoided if at all possible), this was by far the best experience we've had. (The only place even within in the same ballpark was in Exuma, Bahamas).
If you want to experience the Smokies and are looking for a great basecamp/home-away-from-home, you really can't go wrong with this spot.
Fabulous Eclipse Getaway
What a wonderful time we had! From the time we made our reservation, Jennifer was there for us. She answered all inquiries very promptly and thoroughly. We could not have asked for better hosts! We (two couples) were in the area to view the total eclipse in Sylva. We were welcomed to the home with a lovely note and an "Eclipse Basket" of celestial themed goodies! We immediately felt welcome and comfortable there. Jennifer and Gary provided a book on the coffee table with all the information you need regarding the home and the area.
The home is lovely and fully equipped with everything you need. It was perfect for two couples. There are beautiful mountain views and lovely porches for relaxing. It was an easy drive into downtown Waynesville and convenient to Asheville.
This is a beautiful, very comfortable home and we highly recommend this for a great getaway with convenient access to this beautiful area of North Carolina.
Restful and Charming!
My husband and I had an amazing get-away at this cabin. The foggy views of Purchase knob, the fire pit under the stars, the singing birds, kayaking in the rivers and hiking in the mountains, the excitement of Asheville nightlife were all we hoped they would be...having a comfy and well appointed home base made this experience a delight! Oops! Run-on sentence! Speaking of: I recommend reading Thomas Wolfe's: Look Homeward Angel, while on your visit, the perfect literary accompaniment for a visit here. The owner made sure we had everything we needed and then some! Visiting at this charming cabin gave us nourishment for mind, body and soul. You can go home again...in the mountains of Waynesville!
