A great place to unwind and immerse yourself in nature.
About Neil Waters
I decided to go into the holiday house business after having bad luck with some tenant's that didn't respect the place and left it in a mess.
Neil Waters purchased this House in 2010
Why Neil Waters chose South Mount Cameron
It is in a great location for day trips to explore the North-east or to just relax and unwind as it is very peaceful.
What makes this House unique
You might get lucky and see a Tassie Tiger or some Devils, Quoll's or some of thge many other species of animals living in the area.

We stayed here as it was the closest we could get to Derby during the EWS race in 2019.
24 hours out, we had not received correspondence on how to access the property and resorted to calling the owner. He gave a long list of instructions and directions, some of which we forgot and others which were wrong (there was no key). It was a little difficult to find the property, gain access, etc. Made more difficult by no mobile phone reception on the property (we had Telstra, Vodafone and Optus mobiles; none worked). Emailed instructions would have helped.
If you're staying here don't arrive at night. Even in the twilight of dusk this place is spooky. The exterior looks like an abandoned hillbilly shack with random items strewn across the veranda. There's a separate granny flat w/ outhouse which we drew straws for; no one wanted to sleep alone out there. As it turned out I drew the short straw and it was nice. Comfortable bed, warm, dark and good for sleeping.
The Lodge itself has lounge room, dining room, kitchen, combined bathroom/toilet/laundry, two bedrooms; each with a double bed. There are heaters in every room.
The decor is OTT. It's like a shrine to the thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger). Posters, pictures, stuffed animals, books, journals, tea towels, place mats. Everything is thylacine-themed. Weird.
Unlike the exterior, the interior was tidy and liveable after we cleared the cobwebs out of every room. No bats.
There were a number of inconveniences such as the power was off when we arrived, including the fridge, which took a long time to cool down. Similarly the hot water system wasn't ready in time for evening showers (brrrrr).
There is a large flat screen TV in the lounge room but there was no signal. There was a large antenna mast laying across the backyard so this might be the reason.
The absence of phone coverage was compounded by no guest wifi at this property. We literally had no comms.
The kitchen is well equipped but the fridge and microwave are terribly old. The washing machine takes three times longer than claimed because there is no water pressure.
Worst part of the stay was that the owner violated our privacy. He asked to access his personal belongings from a detached shed on the property, to which we agreed. But he went inside the house while we were absent and left a snarky letter on the front door about a dripping tap. We felt unfairly accused and intruded on.
I wouldn't recommend staying here unless no other option.
Tassie tiger lodge. The name says it all really. People who leave keys locked inside the premises always make me wonder how they were planning on getting back in. The tap in question was running not dripping and was wasting valuable rainwater. Had I not been coming to the property that day, things wouldve been even more of a struggle for them as they had locked the keys inside and left them on the dining room table, nice work guys. Having locked themselves outside, it was imperative for me to retrieve the keys for them otherwise they would've had an even colder night outside in their sweaty lycra. Unknown to me someone had vandalised the tv antenna in the last few weeks and had stolen the amplifier from it so that is a justified complaint. Apologies for that. Other than that, the accomodation is advertised exactly as it is and it is a quaint cottage that is 2 star standards i.e. a cabin in the bush. Clearly David did not read the bio on the property before going ahead and booking it. Microwave works. Refrigerator works and yes the washing machine is slow to run through a cycle as discussed with the David. Be grateful that one is even supplied at no extra cost. It always amazes me how people leave fact finding about a property they have booked to stay at until the day of arrival...like key drop and any other details about the property but again, read the bio before you book. And the keys were there. Tassie Tiger Lodge is designed to be a getaway from all the hussle and bussle and there is Telstra service up the back of the block as discussed on the phone. Remote NE Tasmania is an opportunity to escape distractions and technology that not everybody is capable of appreciating...clearly.
cozy and peaceful
we loved the Tassie tiger lodge, wildlife and nature very much. cool little cottage, clean and tidy, hoping to be back soon... thanks to the owner for a wonderful weekend there
We spent a very relaxing weekend at Tassie Tiger Lodge and loved our stay. Although an older property, it was extremely comfortable, clean and had many little extras included. There was a really good supply of linen/bedding and cooking utensils plus tea, coffee, etc. Definitely a great place to stay.
Wow!!! Had a fabulous time at Tassie Tiger Lodge - the owner must be congratulated on the quaint little cabin that is presented. Not only was it easy to find, the tranquility of the location, homeliness of the cabin and the honesty of the owner was brilliant. Everything was above expectation and if you're looking for a no fuss, cosy clean cabin to get away for the weekend or even a week - I can't recommend this place highly enough - what a treasure to find and will definitely be returning again and again
Such a great cabin! Close to heaps- day in Derby mountain biking, fishing in rivers and lakes!
Very clean. Everything we needed! Highly recommend. We stayed in 2018 but this site didn’t offer 2018 on the drop down bar.
Beds super comfy.
Owner very responsive.
We originally posted a review, however, the owner/manager thought he would respond with an insult to us. When we left, we posted him an email with concerns about the house. It was disgusting!! There was bat and bird poo all over the verandah walls. The micro bats were coming inside, we had to catch one, it was scaring the dogs, and they are disease ridden. There are previous entries in the guest book from the housekeeper that there are bats in the house. There was no firewood, kindling, paper or matches for the fireplace, so we tried to use the aircon for heat, it didn't work. So we had to resort to blankets on the lounge to keep warm at night. The lounge room had no light, we had to get a small lamp from a bedroom to have light in the lounge room. The bathroom door didn't close and there was no curtain on the glass for privacy. The dirty filthy gunge around the kitchen taps was disgusting. The stove was filthy, the drip trays under the elements were all full of burnt carbon. The Fire Blanket had been used to put out a fire, there was a perfect imprint of a stove element on it. They can only be used once and need to be replaced, but it was put back in the pouch. When we left, we emailed all of this to the owner/manager. He was rude, defensive and resorted to foul language in his reply. He said "what do you expect from budget accommodation?" There was no apology whatsoever from him. Personally, I expect simplicity, not filth. I initially sent this information to him in private, but as he has called us PICKY in a public forum on Stayz, I thought I would share it with you. He stated about us NEVER AGAIN!! As if we would go back after that tirade of abuse.
The 2 people who posted this review clearly had an agenda to discredit The Lodge as they have properties of their own on Stays and obviously don't like any competition. Their original review was removed and this review was posted by them 10 months after they stayed at The Lodge. Whilst a couple of their complaints were fair, the vast majority were not and their exaggerated claims clearly had a more devious purpose. Tassie Tiger Lodge is council compliant and we have had not a single other negative review from any guests.
Scottsdale or St Helens are the nearest shopping districts for supplies and fuel etc.
