Oceanfront with 9 Beds! (1 King, 6 Queens, 2 Twins)

Bedrooms 5
Property type house

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Rejuvenate yourself at the premier oceanfront cottage in Atlantic Beach. Relax on the warm deck, listening to the joyful sounds of ocean waves mere steps away. Skip down to the beach on your private pathway through the gently swaying sea oats. Watch as your children play in the sun-soaked sand on the shores of the dazzling Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy a sunset, then retreat to your spacious accommodations filled with beach décor, and rest in your choice of five bedrooms. In the morning, walk down the quiet beach to The Circle for some coffee, breakfast, shopping, or other activities. No matter what you chose to do, your stay at Sea Haven promises to add many wonderful memories to your vacation scrapbook!

Sea Haven is a spacious, five bedroom, two-bath, oceanfront, historic beach house that is perfect for your ocean get-away. At approximately 3000 square feet, Sea Haven is one of the largest in Atlantic Beach. The home is owned by two Marine Corps officers who merely want to offset the costs of ownership, so our rates are substantially better than most, especially on a per person basis. The top floor rooms are exceptionally large at about 36'x 14'. The east room is divided into two room for the parents overlooking the ocean, and an adjoining room for the kids. The kids room is entered through the parents room...a nice feature for those families who want to keep a close eye on toddlers. All beds are spacious high-quality queens, except for one king in the master suite and two single twin beds (provided for children or teenagers). The bed layout is as follows:

1st floor bedroom on ocean (south) - 1 king (2)

1st floor bedroom on street side of house (north) - 1 queen (2)

2nd floor bedrooms on ocean (east) - 1 queen in parents room on the ocean; 1 queen and 1 twin (5) in the adjoining children's room.

2nd floor bedroom on ocean (west) - 3 queens and 1 twin (7)

The main floor bathroom lies off the foyer on the main floor. New LG washer and dryers are located here. The second and third bathrooms are located between the bedrooms for convenient access (Jack & Jill style, with the bathrooms entered through the between the bedrooms on the main floor, and one between the bedrooms on the top floor).

Both floors have independent thermostats and central heat/air units to optimize comfort. New flat screen TV's installed as well.

Sea Haven has terrific facilities for outdoor activities. The deck is exceptionally large at over 500 square feet, and has an attached shower shed (ambient temperature). There is also a covered 400 square foot porch with two large picnic tables, which are great for inclement weather or for just getting out of the sun. The view is unmatched...Sea Haven faces due south on an east-west beach, so during certain times of the year, you can enjoy both a sunrise and a sunset from the same location (this is one of the few beach locations in the US where this occurs). From the steps of the deck, the waves at high tide are only about 15 yards away.

The location in Atlantic Beach is also a plus due to the wide variety of activities and restaurants available. Sea Haven lies in a quiet, relaxing neighborhood, yet still lies within walking distance of the Atlantic Beach Boardwalk and a fishing pier. Several restaurants are also within walking distance.

The official occupancy is listed at ten adults due to some recently enacted real estate regulations, but the house has 1 King, 6 Queens, and 2 twins (please reference the photos and below to see the bed layout). IF YOU ASK about the occupancy, you WILL be told 10 adults maximum. We don't want to deny you a stay, but if you tell us you have more than 10 people, we can't rent to you. We trust that you will bring the appropriate number of people, so no one will be counting occupants. For your convenience, when you arrive in Atlantic Beach, only the person on the contract needs to go check in with the management. The rest of your entourage can proceed to the house and wait for your family member to arrive with the key. With the number of beds, the cost per person is among the best you'll find for ANY ocean front home, making Sea Haven one of the best values on the beach. Additionally, in order to ensure quality service 24 hours a day and to make your stay as pleasant and trouble free as possible, we employ a professional management company which will cater to your every need. They offer a wide variety of services, and will provide you with the best vacation experience possible. We hope you enjoy your stay! About Carissa

Rod and Pat bought this house when they were Lieutenants based at MCAS Cherry Point. After finishing a mission, they would often fly over beautiful Emerald Isle on the way back to base. Finally, one summer day in 1992, Rodney went down to Atlantic Beach to see if he could find a home there, and on that day he found Sea Haven. Together Patrick and Rodney scraped up their limited savings and bought the house, which was in great need of repair. For the next 10 years, many weekends and holidays were spent renovating the home. Today, the house is a Carteret County historic home, and is one the finest examples of North Carolina beach cottages around. Rodney and Patrick are still buddies and both are retired from the Marine Corps, with over 40 years of combined military service. Rodney is married to Pernille from Denmark, and Patrick is married to Carrie from Florida.

Carissa purchased this house in 1992

Why Carissa chose Atlantic Beach

If you want something different and unique, this house is for you. Sea Haven has that traditional beach cottage charm. Walls and ceilings are gorgeous Carolina pine, something you never see in new construction.

What makes this house unique

As they say, location, location, location. The house is on a quiet street conveniently located within walking distance (2 blocks) of the Atlantic Beach Circle and Boardwalk. Also within walking distance of some ocean fishing piers. The home is professionally managed by Spectrum Resort Properties, so you will always have assistance should you require it.

Thank you!

  • 5 of 5

I think most of the other reviews cover the details on this wonderful home, so I won't elaborate further. Just wanted to thank the owners for the wonderful stay and for allowing pets. Our little dog Sif is part of our family, and we all would have been very sad to leave her behind. Also, thank you to the owners for their military service to this country. Semper Fi.

Our Favorite Beach House!

  • 5 of 5

Well, where to begin. We really enjoyed the place, so I have been meaning to get this review out for some time. First, its a pretty house. I loved the cedar shake exterior...really adds to that beach charm. The house also has the only palm trees of any house in the neighborhood (I had no idea they could survive this far north. Not a huge thing, but this was the first time the kids had seen any, which was fun for them). The house has a fairly large yard for an ocean front property, so the kids were able to play right next to the house when we were not on the beach. The beach is literally a stone's throw away from the deck. There is a private path down to the beach as well...25 yards or so maybe to the high water line. The house is unique in that it is a traditional beach cottage, with beautiful wood ceilings and walls, but its has also been updated with modern amenities. The bathrooms even have custom frameless glass showers and rain drop shower heads! And, there were brand new high end front loading washer and dryers too. We liked the big covered porch on the ocean side, and the large deck. Being a traditional beach cottage, the closets are not a big as a more modern house, but it really didn't matter...we don't bring a ton of clothes for a one week beach holiday anyhow, and the house's old style charm more than made up for the closet space. There is lots of dresser space though, if you need it. Also, looks like the house has new windows, making for a gorgeous views of the ocean and sand dunes. We had a blast, and will be returning next year!

Worth Renting

  • 4 of 5

We spent the week at this house with 6 adults and 4 children, ages 5 and under. Had a wonderful time. The house was very clean (a few large stains on the carpet, but not a real big deal), and the linens and full-sized crib were already there when we opened the door. If you bring real young children, I recommend you bring baby gates; one to block the stairs and one to block the kitchen. The kitchen is stocked with the basics, so if you love to cook while on vacation, bring extra tools (and maybe one or two sharp knives). Also, the fridge really does take 24 hours to get back to normal cold temperature. Keep that in mind before you stock it with perishables.

The house itself is great. The upstairs bedrooms are spacious and sunny. The "dorm" bedroom would be a great place for cousins to sleep–I can just imagine the memories that could be built in that room.

The deck is very large and spacious. We bought a small plastic pool, filled it with water, and let the little ones play in it. Very helpful when everyone is tired of sand. The walk to the beach was very short, which is nice when the sand is hot.

This house is fantastic for the rate. We would gladly return another time!

Wow! Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Place looks recently renovated. Beautiful tile flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms, granite on all vanities, and new glass showers with rain drop shower heads in the two bathrooms on the main level. Nice tub on the top floor bathroom for the kids. We loved the classic beach house wood walls and ceilings never see houses so pretty these days. We put our babies in the back room on the top floor, then took the adjoining room on the ocean. This way our little ones had to get past us to make it downstairs. View was awesome out our window facing the beach. Outside of house is really pretty, with new cedar shake shingles and palm trees. Deck is huge, and you can throw a rock into the ocean from it. There is a pretty, private bath through the sea oats to the ocean. Nice quiet location, but within walking distance down the beach to the circle. There was hardly any people on our stretch of beach! We will be returning next year!

The Best of Everything

  • 5 of 5

The location was perfect: close enough for shopping, eating, and biking, yet was on a quiet street with our own private path to the beach. My mother enjoyed sitting on the porch looking out at the ocean, which is a stone's throw from the deck. Lots of beds and space... We stayed in the "Chaperone" room on the top floor, with our kids in the adjoining room. We all feel strongly that we will visit again. Thanks for a wonderful experience!

Five Generation Vacation

  • 2 of 5

We arrived to find the house ready and very clean. We immediately discovered that the number of beds was reduced from what was in the photos, but we worked it out and everyone had a place to sleep. Each of the 2 bathrooms are entered by going through a bedroom and this was an issue, especially at night, but again, we made signs to hang on the bedroom doors for when someone was napping. Having different ages (from 2 to 86), with varied bedtimes, probably contributed to this problem. The children especially enjoyed the huge deck and played there frequently. We would advise everyone to not make your reservations too early in the year. We did, and the rental rates dropped by our vacation time and the realtor and owner refused to refund the difference. This left a bad taste in our mouth and we will not be returning next year.

Owner's Response: Dear Rebecca, Very sorry to hear this. Our goal is always to have happy customers and a house which provides tremendous value. We could price it much higher, especially considering the size of the house and number of beds, but we want to ensure customers feel like they received a great deal when they depart the home so we price it accordingly. This is why we are known for providing the best value in all of Atlantic Beach. And as a result, we have the longest running & most successful VRBO Listing in North Carolina. You’ll also note that this is the only 2-star review we have ever had. So, in an effort to inform our other customers, I must point out that there is some misleading info your post. The first time I heard about this issue was after we received your VRBO review, not before, so I was never even given an opportunity to help. I knew nothing about a request for us to reduce that the rate to something other than that which you paid for either. However, I must point out that our renters pay a premium to reserve their stays well in advance so that they can be sure to have their vacation property the week they want. Most people understand this, and none have asked for a rate change weeks after paying for the reservation. In regards to the beds, the number of beds in the house is exactly as advertised. Sometimes our families move the beds around for their children, so the bed locations may not be exactly as depicted in the photos, but the number is accurate (the number of beds actually exceeds the authorized number of occupants, giving our renters added flexibility at no additional cost). As to the location of the bathrooms, their location is also specifically mentioned in the write up on VRBO. Most people enjoy having an adjoining bathroom, rather than one down the hall. In any case, my management folks tell me that none of these issues were mentioned at the time, so it appears your negative review was made after you were unable to get our management company lower your price to something less than what you agreed to. I’m sorry, but doing so would not be fair to our other customers, all of whom pay what they agreed too. Thanks for your feedback.
