Just what was needed!

  • 5 of 5

We were in Cedar Mountain to attend a "Celebration" service in Hendersonville for my dad who recently passed away, and Alison was more than accommodating in making this happen for us on such short notice. The cottage was quaint and cozy and was just the retreat we needed to reflect on the weekends activities.

I look forward to being able to stay here again under happier circumstances and have the time to explore the area and see the waterfalls and outdoor chapel. Would recommend this property to anyone!

Very relaxing and quiet mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the mountain cottage! Being just minutes away from the waterfalls was ideal, along with being able to see the stars at night while relaxing next to the fire pit was extremely relaxing!

We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet mountain getaway, that is also close to many hiking and outdoors activities!

Great Family Friendly Home!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I took our two young girls for a weekend getaway to see the leaves change and to see some waterfalls. We drove through the night and Alison worked with us in arriving earlier in the afternoon. Our family had a great stay. We loved the central location of the cottage. We were able to hike to several waterfalls in DuPont, visit Pisgah National Forest, drive the Blue Ridge and hit up Brevard for dinners. Our girls loved the backyard and the tire swing was a hit. As a mom, I loved the comforting touches to the home. There were plenty of things for the kids to do while we prepped for our hikes: toys provided, stools to reach the bed and bathroom sink. And I LOVED the kids room that even had a nightlight (perfect for my 4 year old!). Even with two twin beds there was plenty of room for a packnplay for our 21 month old. We had a great stay! Will definitely try and make it back next year.

Owner's Response: And thank YOU for taking such great care of the Cottage! We love hearing about families that have a great stay. Our kiddo spent the first 6 years of his life there and loved the adventures of each new day. Glad the toys and kid-friendly touches were helpful. Hope you can come back again next year! --Ali

Spacious old cottage home...

  • 1 of 5

Pros: Large kitchen and extra sitting/play room, good size living room and bedrooms. WiFi is good. Large back yard. Comfortable beds.

Cons: Cottage is close to main road, to park in driveway it’s best to pull off the road and back in be careful of huge rock room for 1 vehicle. DVD plays in black and white. Sofa felt damp thankfully we brought our own throw blankets. (Dampness is due to climate). Living room floors had not been swept. Shower handles are tricky (be careful). Extra blankets had not been cleaned in some time (foul).

We will not book this cottage again. The house rules we were given after our booking confirmation was acceptable. However, when you get there you will find a binder with stricter house rules that we felt were over the top. We felt very uncomfortable to touch or use anything in the cottage for fear that we would lose our security deposit. Smokers beware you cannot smoke anywhere near the cottage. We stood on the side of the road in the dark so we did not violate the homeowners wishes. (Nerve racking for us ) Just felt like we couldn’t relax. Therefore, the only time we were there was from 9-10p to 9a long enough to sleep, shower and dress. Just not the experience we expected so yes we were disappointed. Also, there was a note stating they were in the process of making repairs. (Not sure what repairs exactly). There’s also a limit to how many people that can be on the back deck at one time. (Needs some TLC). Sliding glass door sticks a little. We would have felt more relaxed and comfortable in a hotel. This review is our experience and opinion. We hope that if you book this cottage that you have a better experience. If you have any questions prior to booking try to contact the homeowner, she will respond quickly. Good Luck.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear it wasn't a pleasant or relaxing stay (that's our ultimate goal for all renters). Just for future reference, if you hope to do any other vacation rental bookings, I would recommend talking with the owner in advance about smoking policies. Our policies are strict so that the Cottage is not subject to smoke, impacting future guests' visits. I imagine there are some rentals that spell out clearly that Smoking is allowed--and that's probably your best bet for next time. I'm sorry about any discrepancy between info. you received from us. We are working to fix any discrepancies--our policies have become stricter since we first posted the Cottage (to maintain a smoke free environment), so we'll make sure all the correct info. is in all the various places. Again, we appreciate your feedback and hope you enjoy your next stay in WNC.
