A lovely oasis in the heart of Eldorado!
We loved the mountain and sunset views from the rooftop deck. The kitchen provided all the supplies and tools we needed for our eat in meals. The cool night air and serenity helped us sleep peacefully. Ahdonnah gave us privacy but was also friendly and helpful as our host.

We first visited Santa Fe in the mid-80s, as we had friends living here. From the moment we set foot on the land, we saw and felt a deep connection, like home. We hoped we might be able to live here someday. Someday finally came in 2005 while on another visit. This time, we thought we’d look at some living possibilities. As soon as we stepped into the entranceway of this home and saw the backyard through the panoramic windows, we said, “We’ll take it!” THEN we had our walk-through, which did not disappoint. The following day, we got a phone call from our realtor, telling us, “Congratulations, you are now Santa Fe homeowners!” It was my wife’s birthday. Obviously, meant to be. On their first visit, our seven-year old granddaughter said, “Grandma, I love the Santa Fe style!” and our five-year old grandson said, “When you guys are gone, can we live here?” Mouths of babes… but certainly made an impression. For a living, I’m a professional creative director and writer of marketing materials. My wife is a successful jewelry artist whose work is available in boutiques throughout the U.S. and in high-end catalogues. She’s been doing this successfully for more than 25 years, a great blessing. We love Santa Fe and our home here and look forward to sharing them with you.

Why they chose this property

Our home and environs were just right for us. We’re on an acre and a half of land (not too little, not too much), corner lot, right on the greenbelt. Neighbors close enough, but not too close. A Goldilocks lot! Our backyard is enclosed by an adobe wall constructed from handmade adobe bricks, the old fashioned way! We have a terraced garden in the backyard, enclosed by hand-stacked local stones. A lovely garden in the spring/summer, xeriscaping, plus a peach, apple and Italian plum tree. A 360-degree view of the countryside and mountains from our rooftop deck (pretty wonderful for sunset cocktails) and no street lights, making our star-filled sky incredible to behold. Inside, our home is also cut from Goldilocks’ fabric… juuuust right. Full of light, warmth, vigas, nichos and other Santa Fe highlights. It’s been that superb feeling of heaven opening and gracing us with comfort, convenience (supermarket and other services are five minutes away) and generous support for our lives. We hope you feel it when you walk in.

What makes this property unique

They call New Mexico “The Land of Enchantment.” And for good reason. There is a spirit and soulfulness about the earth and sky here that are palpable. And totally infectious, if these are energies you resonate with. We did. They feel like they represent a living connection with “the ancestors,” the Native Americans who’ve lived on this land for thousands of years. Santa Fe is surrounded by pueblos, inhabited for more than a thousand years, and still home to original indigenous cultures. It is also home to the rich and pervasive Hispanic culture and energies, prime movers here for more than 400 years. And the community is committed to preserving this heritage, a breath of fresh air (both literally and figuratively) in our world of newness, planned obsolescence, alienation and the search for meaning. The light here is likened to that in the south of France, one reason world-class artists have found their way to Santa Fe for more than 100 years. And there is a stillness and silence here (including in our yard) that offer a profound connection with nature … and with yourself. But then you must know about all of this, since you’re planning to visit and have likely done research. But then you know that reading about the place and actually being here … two very different things. Hope to welcome you soon.
