Beautiful space, great hosts
The house was clean and well-stocked with anything and everything a family could need, including nice extras like cooking and baking basics and heaps of ready firewood. Birds came regularly to perch on the balcony, which was a delight, and the view was beautiful at every time of day. There was an unexpected problem with the water supply to the bathrooms on our first morning there (pump from the rain water tank), but even though it was a public holiday weekend, and the hosts were on holiday themselves, they responded immediately and very graciously. It was all fixed and working by the time we got home from our excursion that day. We had a really lovely time, and will stay again.
Peaceful and Beautiful
A lovely warm home set up to welcome guests and make you feel comfortable. Absolutely stunning views out across the paddocks. We loved watching the sheep grazing through out the day and the birds were welcome visitors also. There was even a wombat in the backyard on the first night. Everything was spotless, the bed was huge and comfy and the wireless was super fast. Thank-you for welcoming us into your home.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We're so happy you guys had a restful stay. Welcome back any time! :)
Family friendly but disappointing
We stayed at the Whitehouse on the hill for three nights with our 15 month old and were disappointed. We purchased the linen pack at an additional cost as I don’t have long size bedding to bring. When we arrived we had no towels, luckily I had brought some beach towels. I couldn’t find the change table that is supposed to be at the house.
Minimal toiletries provided (hand soap and body wash), no tissues or paper towel in the kitchen
We had planned to pick up a couple of essentials from the local foodworks when we arrived but one of the locals advised us it closed 3 weeks earlier so we had to drive back to Whittlesea (would have been good to know this).
Kitchen was great size no mixer as shown in the photos, frying pan was extremely dirty we had to clean a lot of the pots before we were able to use them.
We were hoping to spend some time outside but were unable to leave the balcony as the gardens were all overgrown. Older kids might enjoy this but they also warned of snakes so it would be good to have a small area maintained.
There were also no animals within walking distance, we could see four horses two paddocks over but we were unable to get anywhere near them.
Overall the house was nice and quiet with great views and visits from the native birds. The toys were fantastic and kept my daughter entertained. Just needs some love when not being used.
I’m so sorry you were prompted to leave a bad review after not hearing from you throughout the duration of your stay...even after I texted you to enquire if you had everything you needed. We have actually NEVER received a bad review about our home in 5 years. Testament to this is my status as a Superhost on another site.
Please accept my sincere apologies about the towels! My cleaner must have forgotten these. She’s usually incredibly reliable and only lives around the corner so it’s unfortunate that you didn’t text me to resolve this issue.
We are very passionate about the environment, that’s why we supply eco hand soap & body wash & organic shampoo & conditioner. What a pity you didn’t get in contact so I could let you know that the shampoo/conditioner is in the ensuite cupboard. We don’t supply tissues as these are not particularly eco-friendly necessities, but we do supply eco paper towels. Again if you’d asked I would have advised they were kept in the walk-in pantry. This is also where the mixer is kept. Please accept my sincere apologies about the unclean pots. Again, I have an excellent cleaner so I’m not sure what happened but I appreciate you letting me know so I can address this.
The change table was damaged by a previous guest (I’ll now remove this from our listing), but I’m hoping the Danish designer cot with complimentary bedding and all the other baby/toddler extras helped to make your stay comfortable.
Thank you for letting me know about the local foodworks! I’ve since learnt that they had to close down due to landlord issues. Due to our daughters health we now live interstate, so were totally unaware this. Happily, the large service station in Kinglake does stock a big range of essentials.
In spring the grass takes off very quickly, and it rained the week of your stay so apologies that the regular mow couldn’t occur...although it is always short immediatley around the house.
Unfortunately we have no control over where the sheep are grazing but I would’ve happily let you know they were just around the corner - a lovely stroll past alpacas & friendly horses.
What a pity all this conspired against you having a blissful stay in our special space! Next time it would be very helpful if you contact your host during your stay with any issues (as I advise in my check-in info), as I would have resolved most of these things for you. If this had occurred I’m sure you would have had an amazing stay just like all of our other guests! Safe travels.
Myself,my husband and our 6 children had the most amazing, relaxing, adventurous, comfortable, stay we have ever had!..The house was roomy and equipped with everything we needed, Beautiful fire inside and bonfire outside, where we drank red wine and ate roasted marshmallows whilst we all painted the scenery on paper with water colours....not to mention our night time bushwalking through the forrest....Bron was a lovely and easy to correspond with.We can't wait to go back...thank you for sharing your beautiful home and magical surroundings with us!

Oh, Sophie! Thank you for your beautiful words. I’m so happy you guys enjoyed our special home. You’re welcome back any time!!
This place was magical. We loved every minute.
Such a beautiful setting, sweeping landscape, warm crackling fire so easy to relax here. Kids loved the cubby and exploring the property. We could sit on the deck and watch them while we relaxed.
Extensively stocked pantry, and extremely comfy beds!
We will be back!
Hi Amanda. Thanks so much for taking the time to review our special home in the hills. I'm so glad you had such a great stay and that your kids had fun playing inside and out. You're welcome back any time!!! :)
Our family of 4 adults and two children had a wonderful stay in this house. It is so well set up for families, with the playroom filled with toys and books, and the cubby on the verandah was a delight for the little ones. The kitchen had every sort of cooking equipment we could have wanted but we took advantage of the local caterer, Bowl Full of Soul, for one of our dinners.
The location on the edge of the town means that the place is so peaceful and seeing the morning sun rise over the hills was a delight, as was watching the local farm animals. We saw a wombat on the property on both evenings we were there.
The school oval was at the end of the driveway and we were able to play on the play equipment there, and the large town playground was a winner.
Bron kept us up to date with everything that we needed and we had a wonderful time in this huge, light and airy house.
Stunning views of Mt St Leonards from the entire property - inside and out. Enjoy walking in the local National Park, visiting Mason's Falls and the wineries, cheese makers and chocolatier of the Yarra Valley.
