About Linda Stanley
John and Linda, apart from being chestnut farmers, work with farmers around the world, teaching them how to market their produce direct to consumers. They have written a number of books, both individually and together. They enjoy and believe in healthy living, cooking from scratch, keeping active, enjoying each moment, travel, meditation and the company of family and friends. They enjoy having guests in the farmstay as it is a lovely way to share the joys of the farm.
Linda Stanley purchased this Farmhouse in 2013
Why Linda Stanley chose Carlotta
John and Linda Stanley purchased Chestnut Brae in 2013 with a view to creating healthy added value chestnut products using sustainable regenerative agriculture. We also want children to understand where their food comes from, so we converted the original farm house into a farmstay. We believe it is important to connect with nature to recharge the soul and city living deprives people of the opportunity to connect with nature. Chestnut Brae is a stunningly beautiful property, some people say it is the most beautiful farm in the south west, and is therefore an ideal place to recharge after hectic fast paced city living.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Chestnut Brae is unique in that it is the largest chestnut farm in Western Australia, and is the only farm where chestnut fed pork is a major product. It is nestled in a lovely valley with three dams in the valley and is surrounded by rolling hills where kangaroos and emus can be viewed morning and evening as they make their way across the valley.

Such a tranquil and beautiful location. This was such a relaxing holiday for us while providing such great farm experiences for our kids. John and Linda are obviously very clever farmers, with a great passion for what they do - thanks for sharing your farm with us! It was very interesting!
It was our pleasure to meet your lovely family and have the opportunity to share our beautiful farm with you.
Definitely not kid friendly but lots of potential
The hosts Linda and John were very lovely and welcoming but the farmstay was not what we expected. There is loads of potential to make the cottage a truly amazing farm experience. The house itself is definitely not "kid-friendly" as both our young children had accidents on the uneven flooring and multiple steps even with us watching them like a hawk and putting up a barrier in front of the main staircase. The fridge was so small we couldn't fit food and drink for two people let alone a whole family. I had the feeling that we were simply staying in someone house rather than paid accommodation as the items that were provided (tea, coffee, soaps) seemed like they had been there for quite awhile and didn't look appetising. We expected there to be an opportunity for our kids to feed animals, help tend the farm or egg collecting like other farmstays. The chestnut fed bacon was absolutely THE BEST bacon we have ever had and it was a beautiful landscape however the house itself had so many negatives we left feeling quite disappointed. I think the property would be more suited as an adults only retreat and perhaps have some of the farm or local produce like tea coffee honey oil or even some of the products in the chestnut brae shop in the cottage?
Thank you for your comments Laura, We always appreciate feedback as it helps us improve our accommodation offer.
We are so sorry that you were disappointed and the cottage did not meet your needs.
Pigs are on the Christmas wish list!!!
Great location central to many day outings. Well equipped kitchen perfect for preparing family meals. Spa bath a lovely treat after long days out, kids loved it! Farm a beautiful tranquil setting. Farm animals a hit with the kids - they all have pigs on their Xmas list now. Thanks for the break from our hectic city schedule!
You are very welcome Amanda, we are so pleased your family enjoyed the escape from the city and the opportunity to relax and enjoy some rural relaxation. We find just walking through the orchard of chestnut trees is good for the spirit as well as the mind and body. Itis as though that is what our body needs.
Connecting with animals is also good for us, we need to be exposed to all different environments to build our physical immunity - I think sometimes modern life is far too sterile an environment for our health, we all need variety - the spice of life. :0
Oh dear - pigs on a Xmas list - sorry about that! :( Perhaps tell the children they can come back and see our piggies instead :0
You are always welcome at our farmstay.
Kind regards, Linda and John
A rustic old farmhouse set amongst tranquil bushland.
We had a wonderful stay at Chestnut Brae. The homestay is fully equipped and comfortable. The tour of the farm was a highlight as it was interesting to hear about the process of chestnut farming.

It has everything we need and more
We loved our stay at Chestnut Brae. It was relaxing, surrounded by beautiful scenery. Our host John and Linda were very nice and friendly. On one of the day John took us on a tour of their Chestnut farm which was very informative and inspiring. The farm house was very comfortable for us 5 adults and 4 children. I really appreciate the clean beddings and comfortable bed, with complete kitchen equipments and utensil which allowed me to cook and stick to our special dietary requirements. Thank you very much John and Linda for allowing us to stay at your place.
It was lovely to have you and your family stay with us Christy. We really appreciated how clean and tidy you leftthe cottage, and what a pleasure you all were to have with us on the farm.
A great, relaxing getaway
Our hosts John and Linda are friendly and welcoming. The surrounding of the farm is picturesque and peaceful which made our stay at the farm very relaxing. The farm tour was very interesting and educational for adults and kids alike. We highly recommend trying John and Linda's chestnut fed pork as they are a premium quality marbled meat, yummm!
