Not a cabin, not a castle...a lakeside cottage, casually elegant, comfortable and affordable.

Lovely views of the mountains and the lake. Close to town, quaint shops, restaurants and vineyards, Waterside Cottage is a retreat for small families, seniors, and couples.

Light and clean with all the comforts of home make this the right choice for your holiday plans. Surrounded by the lake and mountains, the home faces Lake Chatuge, known for it's clean waters, great for swimming, boating, fishing and water sports. The town of Hiawassee, with its lake and mountain views is often referred to as "The Enchanted Valley".

Hiking trails, waterfalls, parks, antique malls, boutiques, golf, fine and casual dining and so much more is conveniently close. Waterside Cottage is not a party home, and is not suitable for large groups or party people. Rather, it is a centrally located, affordable, comfortable cottage. Within walking distance to the town of Hiawassee, in a lakeside neighborhood, with no steep mountain roads, it is located on a paved road with gentle terrain. It is not remote and there are neighbors close by. It is approximately one mile to HWY 76 a main road that takes you to the entire surrounding area, towns such as Clayton, Helen, Blue Ridge, Hayesville, and Franklin, all about a 30 minute drive. Take a trip over the great smoky mountains and visit Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Asheville or Chattanooga, all about a 2 1/2 hour drive.

There is not a boat dock associated with Waterside but there's room to park a boat and a launching area close by.

Lake access is out the front gate and across the quiet road where there is a park like setting. The water front is a gradual slope where you can wade out or stay close to shore. Or stretch out on the Adirondack chairs and watch the the boats go by.

There are marinas nearby to rent boats, or bring your own.

Watch the sunset over the lake and roast marshmallows around the firepit while the kids catch fireflies.

Walk or bike to the town of Hiawassee (or take the 3 min drive), where you will find fine restaurants and fast food, upscale shops and old fashioned general stores. There is 'Music on the Square' every Saturday summer night, and a farmers market to buy local produce and crafts.

Just a 5 minute drive away Georgia Mountain fairgrounds and Music Hall where there are festivals and concerts all year long.

You can catch a movie, play golf or visit the spa at Brasstown Valley Resort.

Visit the nearby towns. Blue Ridge where you can ride the train though the mountains, or the Bavarian town of Helen where you can tube down the river or enjoy the longest Oktoberfest in the US, take a zip-line in Sautee, or Blairsville. Visit Brasstown Bald, Georgia's highest mountain where the views will take your breath away. Hike the Appalachian trail, there is an entrance just a few miles away.

The Master bedroom, upstairs with a new King sized bed (2016), and a spacious balcony with great views.

Also upstairs is the guest bedroom with 2 new twin beds and trundles underneath.

There is one bathroom upstairs, with double sinks, a tub/shower and commode.

Downstairs there is a 2nd Master bedroom with a new (2016) queen bed, TV.

There is one bathroom downstairs with a tub/shower and commode.

The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking with pots/pans, utensils, spices and coffee service.

For added fun include the boat shed access which contains four kayaks, bicycles and fishing gear. Please note: the kayaks are for experienced and active people and are not recommended for people who are sedentary.

Waterside Cottage: not an isolated cabin in the woods, but a lakeside retreat close to town and all that it offers.

About Catherine

I grew up spending my summers in the mountains of upstate NY and Vermont. I fell in love with the Hiawassee area because it reminded me so much of those areas I knew as a child. The pristine mountains and waters and the air that smells so fresh. Now my family and I live in South Florida, and altho we are blessed to live here, there is something so special about Hiawassee, we hope to live there someday.

Catherine purchased this house in 2005

Why Catherine chose Lake Chatuge

Location, Location, Location, It is a mountain and lake community with funfilled summers and sometimes snowy winters. So close to everything, in a peaceful community on the lake. Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds with concerts and festivals is 7 minutes away! See link above.

What makes this house unique

Here you can experience the small town community of Hiawassee and the lake, or the surrounding mountains, but have all the modern conveniences in an easily accessible home that it gorgeous and comfortable. You can relax in quiet solitude at the house, go out on the lake and explore the undeveloped islands or join the community on the town square for an evening of great food and music, the choice is yours. Fine dining, casual fast food, great shopping, movies, theatre, the list goes on, its all here.

A great experience

  • 5 of 5

We have rented homes in several states over the years and this one is one of the best. It is everything that it is advertised to be and more. It is by far the best equipped kitchen in any home we have ever booked and the place is immaculate and everything works! Little thing like coffee and condiments, soaps and detergents, are provided at no charge, the towels and linens are good quality and new, not threadbare like some places we have stayed. Maintenance issues are up to date, nothing is lacking paint or showing excessive wear.

The layout is very well thought out to be convenient to families with children or without. Hiawasse is a beautiful place to visit and this home is close to shopping and dining, the neighborhood is quiet and the scenery is unbeatable. We attend a festival in the area every May and definitely will reserve this home for next year.

Great Family Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay .The house is so comfortable , plenty of room. Because we chose to vacation in December we didn't get to take advantage of the Lake activities besides the Views but there was plenty to do in the house , enjoying the fireplace, playing games, cards, watching a movie, or reading. Good family time spent together. Found lots to do around in nearby cities , Helen Ga. was my favorite. Plenty of good restaurants to choose from all around or I enjoyed taking advantage of the full kitchen at the house and cooking some meals.

Amazing winter holiday home!

  • 5 of 5

This house was a perfect getaway for our family of six. We spent three nights at the lake house and were very pleased with our experience! The house was comfortable and clean. The kids loved the pool table and foosball table, as well as the hot tub. The owners were very helpful and they answered any questions that we had. The views were amazing and the town was quiet and peaceful. If you want a full service experience then a hotel may be better suited for you. They ask that you wash dishes, strip the linens, wash the towels, take out the trash, and leave the home as it was when you arrived. This was fine for us :), but may not be for everyone. Plenty of places to eat and an overall great place for a quiet weekend. We also enjoyed the blue ridge scenic railway and the festival of lights at the fairgrounds...we absolutely loved our stay in this beautiful home and will rent again. Thank you!

Perfect mountain getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Catherin's cabin is absolutely wonderful! So cozy, clean, and inviting. The lake views are spectacular, especially from the top balcony. We enjoyed a romantic getaway, but the house is plenty big for small families, or multiple couples. The kitchen is great for those who like to cook. The hot tub was great and very private. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!

Thoughtful attention to comfort!

  • 4 of 5

The layout and tones of the home were soft and relaxing on the eyes. I loved that all the basic supplies were there because there is always something you didn't think of. Nice feeling and smelling linens! I have to feel a home is clean in order to relax and lets just say I slept

like a baby! It was just us adults but I can see this would be perfect for kids. Nice and level grassy lot to the lake.

Owner's Response: That is so true, the beds are so comfy and the decor just relaxes you when you walk in the door. Then to step outside, mother nature and the views are why we love coming back again and again to Waterside Cottage.

Very nice home, convenient location

  • 5 of 5

The home was clean and well equipped for a nice stay. The fenced in yard was great for pet security. A short walk to the lake shore with a nice park setting to relax by the lake is just across a paved drive. The hot tub was very relaxing and well maintained. The house is in a neighborhood so expect some normal traffic and what one would experience in most suburban neighborhoods while being just a short walk or drive to the main street of Hiawassee. We had a relaxing time and greatly enjoyed our stay.
