A wonderful beachfront home with private boardwalk directly on beach
Dewees is a private, ferry-access only island. A nature lovers quiet paradise! A perfect get-away from the many distractions of daily life where time slows down. You get to the island on a 20 minute ferry ride departing from the private Dewees Marina parking lot on the Isle of Palms. Dewees has pristine beaches that truly you have almost all to yourself; sand dollars galore; and great fishing spots. It’s a naturalist’s dream: bald-head eagles nesting on a platform, dolphins playing in the inlets, and deer venturing out at dusk. If you are up to watching sea turtles hatching on moonlit beaches, the owner holds the state permit for protecting sea turtles and will be pleased to share his experiences with you.
This Dewees home is the only rental on the island with it’s own “private walkway” to the beach. It includes a private screened-in Gazebo on the beach with picnic table and benches; as well as a storage unit with beach chairs, umbrellas and toys; and an outdoor shower to rinse sand from the beach. The home has beautiful views of the ocean from large decks and a crow’s nest on the roof.
As our guest you are able to use all the amenities of the Huyler House, a magnificent lodge that serves as the center of the community, with a swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball court, and screened in game area. Just because you feel you are world’s away from the stress you left behind, you are only 25 minutes from the romantic city of Charleston with it’s many historic tours and world-class restaurants.
Other Things to Note
Ferry passes are not included in the price of the rental. They are an additional $40/person for the week or $4.00 per ride. This will be paid directly to the owner.

We absolutely loved our stay. The house was perfect. Right on the ocean. You truly felt like you were in a deserted island. Loved our time on the beach! We found lots of sand dollars and we even found one that was alive that we got to give back to the ocean. My 3 boys loved fishing everyday. We loved golf cart life. Best vacation to date for us! We will def be back! I want to see the turtles hatch out and head to the ocean! Thank you to the McGraws for allowing us to experience this amazing island!
Rural as advertised... a real hidden gem!
Dewees is away from it all and this home is in the perfect spot on the island! Very comfortable even though the time we spent there was among the coldest in years. The wood burning fireplace and great room/ kitchen area was great for our family of 4. Easy access to the beach made it great for morning, afternoon and early evening walks while the golf cart allowed us to explore the entire island. Owner was great to communicate with and made our stay simple. A great winter break on Dewees Island!
We enjoyed our time and everything was as promised. Beautiful island!
It truly is a paradise.
Lovely house, amazing setting. I will definitely return. A very memorable vacation!!
We had a wonderful stay in early August on Dewees Island. We felt as if we had escaped to an almost deserted island full of interesting wildlife. This home is lovely and well appointed with all the conveniences you will need to include an elevator. We enjoyed golf cart rides, ocean swimming, beach bocce ball, canoeing, kayaking, bike riding, and wonderful dinners in Charleston. It was fun riding the ferry and being on an island adventure. It does require some work to plan your meals and bring your groceries and haul off your trash to the other side of the island, but the extra effort was worth the unspoiled nature and pristine, quiet beach that was so relaxing. We photographed beautiful pink spoonbills and witnessed the inventory of a sea turtle nest with a baby sea turtle that we helped safely usher to the ocean.

For a video tour of the island, go to www.deweesislandsc.com and click on Visitors...and check out informative island videos. The island requires a ferry fee per visitor that can be used as often as you like and depends on your length of stay. Charleston hotel tax applies and is 18.5%. We split that cost with the renter.
