Great little place
Tony & Marie (Mar 18)
My wife and I stayed in the studio apartment for 5 days in Mar 18. Kakuna was very thoughtful and had provided bread, milk, juice, coffee and tea, a welcome sight after our flight from London.
Kakuna and Fred were great hosts who answered all our questions promptly.
The neighborhood was quite and friendly and very convenient to the subway which can be reached by turning left and walking 150 yards. Local amenities are all available within a short walk.
The studio apartment is small but everything is available for a comfortable stay
Great location! Met our needs!
My son and I stayed here for 5 nights. We appreciated 2 beds, although squeaky if you move a lot (we don’t) and pillows very flat. That is my only complaint. We adored being 1/2 block from subway to go anywhere in NYC and always felt very safe. Neighborhood very quiet. The apartment had a full functioning kitchen, which although we didn’t use, had bread/milk/eggs/juice/coffee/tea for us. So kind!! Bathroom very nice with hot water....much appreciated after walking 10+miles each day! We loved our stay here!!
Great little place!
My daughter and I stayed in this little basement studio for 4 nights. Everything went well, Kakuna the host was great with helping us and being in touch with us before we arrived and during our stay. She left us some bread and eggs and jam and milk and oj for our stay and she helped us with our itinerary. The room was well supplied with blankets and towels. It wasn't fancy but it was a lovely little spot to stay and we would do it again! It felt safe and a nice quiet neighborhood just a couple mins walk to the subway.. our only disappointment was that the bikes weren't in working order.. thank you Kakuna for everything!
Jane was a wonderful guest. It was a pleasure to help her plan for the trip and give suggestions while she was in the city. Really sorry about the bikes. So few guests have used them in recent years that we neglected to service them this year. We'll definitely remedy that so, thanks Jane for getting us back on track! We would be happy to welcome Jane back to NYC.
This property was really bad first of all nobody mentioned in overall description that this is the open studio in the basement. We rented this place for three nights but we didn't want to stay there because of overall conditions of this place. It may seems like it is great place based on the reviews but it is not. Stay away from this place.
Dear Patricia, we were surprised to receive your review because you did not stay in our studio apartment. When you did not check in as expected on your arrival date, we made numerous attempts to contact you through your date of departure, via email, the HomeAway platform, SMS, and telephone because we were concerned that something may have happened to prevent your travel plans. We never received a reply.
The studio apartment is exactly as listed and photographed, a private, one-room studio with an open kitchen, and a private full bathroom only for our guests' use. It is two steps down from the street level, the standard style of historic New York brownstone architecture, with full-sized windows facing the front of the house. It is not in the basement, which is actually located underneath the floor that the studio apartment is on.
We strive to be responsive, but unobtrusive hosts and we are proud of our numerous reviews, the majority of which are five stars with a number of repeat customers as well. Because of this commitment we wish that you had communicated with us regarding your concerns. That would have allowed us the opportunity to make an alternative arrangement with you. We hope that you enjoyed your stay in our city and wish you many wonderful travel experiences in the years to come.
Convenient location in a very New York area
Loved staying here...had everything we needed and convenient to 135 St subway station. Local neighborhood was great too with lots of places to eat and hang out close by. We would stay here again if in New York.
Julie and Dan were really thoughtful guests and easy to communicate with before and during their stay. They left the apartment as they found it, and we really appreciated that. Wishing you more fun travel destinations ahead, Julie!
