Come and discover why Down East Magazine named Bowdoinham one of the 'BEST PLACES TO LIVE IN MAINE' in March 2014, and branded it 'THE CRAFTIEST TOWN IN MAINE' in 2008. Renowned for its wonderful community of farmers, gardeners, potters, woodworkers, chefs, carpenters, photographers, fiber artists, musicians, and boat builders, Bowdoinham has its own artisans guild, arts center, and farmers market. Enjoy the way life really should be in Maine, and stay in Bowdoinham, on beautiful Merrymeeting Bay: a rural town that is laid back & relaxed, it is convenient to Bath/Brunswick; Portland; Augusta; & Lewiston/Auburn; and to all that Midcoast Maine has to offer. Many thanks for considering the Bowdoinham Village Guest Suite.

Unique Educational Opportunities: If you are interested in spending your leisure time learning a new craft or enjoying the local arts scene, Bowdoinham offers fabulous opportunities for you at the Merrymeeting Arts Center--MAC offersr opportunities for your creative enrichment, and make this town a uniquely wonderful place to explore and enjoy.

Recreational Opportunities: Midcoast Maine offers so many opportunities for outdoor recreation: boating, hiking, biking, ice fishing, hunting, fishing, paddling, aviation, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, and cross-country skiing. Opportunities to enjoy all of these are right around the corner from the Bowdoinham Village Guest Suite.

Local Attractions: No visit to Maine would be complete without exploring the Old Port in Portland; shopping at LL Bean in Freeport; visiting the world-class Boothbay Botanical Gardens; taking in a show at the Maine State Music Theatre at Bowdoin College; enjoying lunch at Moody's Diner in Waldoboro; viewing an exhibit at the Portland Museum of Art; or renting an ice shack here on the Cathance River--the best ice fishing anywhere! All of these activities are only forty-five minutes or less from the Village Guest Suite.

(The Bowdoinham Village Guest Suite is a private suite in the residence of Kathy and Scott Gallant. Guests have their own entrance. The Gallants have a beloved black lab, Buddy; and a cat, Hally. The pets remain in the main residence, but those with severe allergies need to be aware of them. During the summer of 2016, there is construction going on at an abuttin property.)

About Kathy Gallant

Greetings from Bowdoinham, Maine. I am Kathy Gallant, owner of the Village Guest Suite, and a Realtor with RE/MAX Riverside in the neighboring town of Topsham. I invite you to visit Bowdoinham and discover the picturesque village that I've been delighted to call home since 1995.

Kathy Gallant purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Kathy Gallant chose Bowdoinham

Enjoy 'the way life really should be' in Maine, and stay in Bowdoinham, on beautiful Merrymeeting Bay: a rural town that is laid back & relaxed, and renown for its wonderful community. Described by Down East Magazine as 'A Very Crafty Town' (November 2008), it is comprised of many farmers, artisans, and musicians--and just plain-old-nice folks. Bowdoinham is convenient to Bath/Brunswick; Portland; Augusta; Lewiston/Auburn; and to all that Midcoast Maine has to offer.

What makes this apartment unique

Bowdoinham Village is absolutely beautiful--a classic New England Village. The Cathance River flows through town, and to Merrymeeting Bay. A canoe is available to explore both, or bring your kayaks.

could have been better

  • 3 of 5

The directions to the village were great, no street address, could have just said next to town hall. Upon arrival, greeted by Kathy's husband, a little on the caustic side, did not offer to help with the bags upstairs. That was the last we saw of him and never did see Kathy (does she exist?) We were sort of abandoned for 3 days and nights, no access to ice, or a place to sit outside though there are 3 decks with no apparent access to them. We did not need the AC, but if we did , I would have had no idea how to use the mobile unit. The only store in town looked a little aged and shabby, we would not take a chance on eating there.

The suite was very clean and comfortable, but !!!!! There was no water view as stated. The yard was overgrown and no access to the florals. Saw the friendly dog one time on arrival

It was a good value, but to see or do anything, you needed to drive 9 miles minimum. If you are looking for a quiet retreat with little to do, this is the place, but I would not recommend it to any of our friends. Not meeting Kathy was a downer, one of the things we were looking for was to possibly purchase a 2nd home, but no realtor available. We did look with a Bath Realtor, but have not purchased as of now. She may have lost a sales opportunity. And as a NJ Realtor myself, I hate to pass them up

Great Small Town Charm.

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights after flying into Portland. The drive is fairly short from Portland around 22-30 min and the town that this property in has a quaint little shop with breakfast/lunch/dinner right down the road which was a great starter for a long day of site seeing. Not being from the area the house was a little difficult to find and we ran into a few communication issues with the owner but all of that was quickly resolved. The house is very clean and like most Maine houses is very big but seems to have different areas of the house that are cut off from others, so you do have lots of privacy. The private bedroom does not have a TV in it but it connects to the private bathroom in the middle that then leads to a separate private dining and living room area with a dated TV - not a problem for us as we weren't there to watch TV it served the purpose just fine. This house is a older home so you will be able to hear people above you which is common in older establishments. Be aware that in the summer the sun rises at 4:58 AM and is very bright! The only thing that I would change to this room would be darker curtains in the bedroom area as it is impossible to sleep in with the bright sun- I did read this in another review so obviously this was not a deal breaker for me.
