This big house was built in 1918 by the Southern Railway as an upscale boarding house where Northern (Yankee!!) railroad execs could bring their families and over-winter at what was then the terminus of the rail-line. So it was built as a quad, which means a few things, each apt has a good layout, not chopped up from a once-primary-residence, it's got high ceilings, leaded glass, plaster walls a foot thick, and it's across the street from the old railyard, which is now part of the Beltline. It's a well-put-together space yet welcomes you to settle in. Plenty of walking-to destinations; walk to MARTA train (either Edgewood or Candler Park). Walk to 4 unique restaurants, coffee shops, a local market, some retail. Get a growler from Candler Park Market and pull up a chair and watch what we call 'chicken TV' in backyard. The beehives are safely enclosed in the chicken run. See what's growing, pull some weeds...
My coop has been on the Urban Coop Tour lots (and lately, too).
NO Roosters live here (or nearby)!!!
This VRBO partner has demonstrated and is committed to fast response times, the best rates, and a great guest experience.
Decatur Native attorney married to Atlanta native attorney, 3 kids, urban gardener with about 750,000 bees and exactly 26 laying hens. Youth coach, Rotarian, Mountain Biker, Birder, Geek.
My 10th grader helps me with all aspects of these listings. I couldn't have imagined what an incredible business experience this has been for a young lady. Letting her convert a few of our apartments into short-term rentals has given her first-hand business experiences that babysitting just doesn't cover!!
Scott H. Thompson purchased this house in 1990
It was a huge project, but i wanted the land because of gardening/chickens/bees potential, which, you'll see, worked out great!
It's really INtown. Not out in the burbs.
Funky neighborhood is kinda Austin wierd, that's a good thing.
Late check-ins are never a problem since we'll assign you a door code, and you don't need to meet for your 'key".
We really want to maintain our flexible policy on check-in and check-out times. I will do everything I can to accommodate your times. Early check-in and late checkout depend on both your requests and the preceding/ following guests', then me negotiating something reasonable. If the night before you is not booked (and we won't know until that afternoon!) we'd normally be happy for you to check-in at 8am... If you want to check out at 5pm and no one is coming that night, no problem!! We'll see as we get closer. But, we do have a space where you can store bags. Otherwise, here is what the HOUSE MANUAL (in your Itinerary) will say-- Check-in will be anytime after 3 pm and Check-out will be anytime before 11am UNLESS YOU REQUEST flexibility with some notice.
FULL DISCLOSURE -- this is my urban working farmlet, so from time to time there will be beehive frames for repair in the yard, or mushroom logs to innoculate on the porch, or wheelbarrows or implements of gardening strewn about. This big, old, demanding mistress requires regular attention from me and my trunkful of tools!!
The inside pictures are exactly "as is". Promise. My farm does not extend to your very clean, orderly, tidy apartment
My husband and I are fans of old houses and had a great time staying here. There was plenty of room for us, our 11- and 9-year-old, and our two beagles. There are many beautiful houses and a park in the neighborhood. We took the kids to the Georgia Aquarium and MLK Jr. National Historical Park. Although we did not take the train, we appreciate that there is a station within 5 min from the house and there was plenty of parking. Scott stopped by with his dog Champ. He showed my daughter how to feed the chickens in the morning and she thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a wonderful time and will definitely stay here again if we are in Atlanta.
Overall, our stay for a girls’ work trip was delightful & relaxing. The apt suited our needs well and was just the right size for all five of us to sleep comfortably. Champ was all of our favorite part of our stay & the chickens were so fun to feed. There were a few minor details that aren’t super pertinent to a ensuring a good stay, such as better quality toilet paper & minor detailing in the backyard, but overall, I would DEFINITELY stay here again and recommend to others. AWESOME location too!
Great place to stay if you are working in the area. Awesome access to public transit. Cute chickens. What more could you want?
If you are a light sleeper you may need earplugs you can hear the train from time to time (I am not and slept great). This by no means is to say don't stay here because it's really a great spot with kind hosts.
Location was perfect for me! It was in an interesting residential neighborhood, near the venue for my nephew's wedding celebration. And I could walk to a cozy little shopping area, restaurants and a coffee shop.
The apt. was spotless, had a good hot shower, comfortable mattress and Scott was very accommodating.
I went with a group of 5 women for a weekend in ATL. The house was just the right size for everyone to stay comfortably for a weekend. Well stocked, nice amenities. MARTA access was close by and Uber rides were fairly quick for longer rides (ie to a Braves game ~20 min, Sweetwater Brewing ~15 min, Ponce City Market ~10 min). Thanks again for such a great weekend!
My cousin and I took a trip to Atlanta and were not disappointed with this house!
It is old and full of charm and had all the amenities, including a little eat in kitchen, fridge, spacious living room and two huge beds, plus a great little bathroom.
It was perfect for us and what we needed! It was also cool seeing the 22 chickens out in their chicken run every morning! They were so quiet you didn't even know they were there!
Parking is tight, but not if you read the instructions on where to park and take a medium to compact sized car.
Scott, the owner, was really helpful and gave us reccomendations for places to eat!
Two things I really loved about this place: the helpful little notes everywhere! Usually taped by light switches or on fans so you would know which string to pull for light or the fan. Just a small touch, but it was nice! And I loved the keyless entry! Scott gave us an easy code to remember and it was very simple to get in and lock up and not have to worry about keeping up with a key!
I'd highly recommend this place! So convenient to Atlanta and close to the Marta bus and metro stations!
