A wonderful remodeled private cottage on a quiet full city lot, complete with off-street parking inside your fenced yard. I've furnished your getaway with new appliances, a full kitchen with everything you need, a lovely full bath with tub/shower, a comfy memory foam queen-size mattress, plus basic cable AND wi-fi! Located an easy 6-block walk (or bike ride) to the Pearl and Riverwalk, 1/2 a mile to the heart of downtown San Antonio and the Alamo, this is one of the city's hottest neighborhoods. You'll enjoy being able to walk to the restaurants and bars a few blocks away, or taking Uber/cab to other areas of town. I live across the street, so if you need anything I'm available. I am a food writer, food tour operator, and avid fan of this fantastic city. Come and enjoy this great town and our friendly folks. PS: Don't let the great rate dissuade you. I prefer to keep the property rented and to provide a great value to San Antonio visitors.

I've lived and worked in San Antonio for 35+ years and have seen wonderfully positive changes. I am involved in the business community, specifically in the culinary and advertising industries, and am proud of the people who make this city tick. I run a culinary tour business, Food Chick Tours.
Julia purchased this House in 2016
Why Julia chose Government Hill
After living in several other parts of the city, I settled here in 2013. I love this neighborhood and its easy access to all the action. I bought the cottage property across the street from my home, poured a lot of love into fixing it up, and now have a great opportunity to share this area with visitors.
What makes this House unique
We are SO close to everything, yet it is quiet and peaceful on this block. The bus stop is two blocks away, the Riverwalk is six blocks away, we can hear the bugles at Ft. Sam and the birds in the trees. The Convention Center is not far away either and the cottage has proven to be very convenient for those attending events there.

The cottage was awesome!
The location is perfect - walking distance to Pearl, Sam’s Burger Shack, etc.
This place was perfect! A nice walk to great eats, drinks and sites. The host was helpful and fun. The cottage was just what we needed, clean, cute and comfy. I’ll be back!
Nice cottage within close drive to lots of attractions
Recently built cottage has everything you need for a short stay. Was within easy driving distance to Riverwalk, Alamo, Alamodome, Pearl, etc. It is in an older neighborhood that is showing signs of renovation and improvement. Pet-friendly.
Inviting and Refreshing
Julia is simply amazing - knowledgeable and easy to work with. The cottage is clean, quiet, and has every "home" amenity. We were impressed with how quickly, and how long, the home cooled down with the AC. Besides the home, the neighborhood is lovely and within an easy stroll to the Riverwalk and LOTS of restaurants.
If you want to experience San Antonio the right way, stay with Julia!
I enjoyed being your guide to the city and am happy that you had a great time here. San Antonio is a perfect way-station between the two US coasts, and I'm proud to help visitors discover its charms as they cross the continent. I hope you'll return some day for a longer stay.
Fantastic stay, accommodations, and host.
Our first time using a booking through VRBO. I couldn’t have asked for anything better and would definitely stay here again should the opportunity arise. The cottage is very clean, I wasn’t disappointed a bit. We’re from Minnesota and everyone we encountered was “Minnesota nice”. Julia was more than expected as a host, and it made me feel more comfortable knowing she was just across the street should we need her. She helped us get acclimated as to which was north, etc. as well as directions and suggestions to the various sites. If you have time to see only one site, I would definitely make the downtown River Walk my destination.
I'm pleased that Texas nice jibes so well with Minnesota nice. Thank you so much for staying at my cottage and writing such a lovely review. I'm always happy to help my guests make the most of this fun, historic, fascinating city. I hope you'll come back again to experience even more of our treasures soon.
We hope to visit again someday.
My husband and I were charmed to have discovered Julia's cottage--and Julia herself! Arriving very late at night, it was helpful that her driving directions were so succinct and that the airport was very close by. And speaking of "close by," the cottage is within easy walking distance from Pearl, the river walk and downtown. The one time we drove to Pearl to check out one of Julia's recommended restaurants for breakfast (she's a food writer/restaurant reviewer by trade), we were glad to find free and plentiful parking there. The cottage was immaculate and the decor uniquely eclectic reflecting Julia's good taste in art and her love for San Antonio. Linens were very high end, the bathroom nice, and the bed comfortable, though we're used to a firmer mattress. I loved how private the property felt with it being fenced in. (Note: The gate is a sliding gate.) The historic neighborhood is quiet, and it was very convenient to be able to park close to the front door of the cottage. Julia lives near by and was so attentive to our every need and question. She has an infectious personality and a hospitable spirit as demonstrated by the goodies she provided: delicious coffee with half n half, yogurt and granola. I even found a good local beer in the fridge. The kitchen has all you need for an extended stay if you're cooking in, but why do that when you have an in-house restaurant critic to steer you to delicious eateries which seem to abound in San Antonio! When we return, which we will do, Lord willing--we will stay in Julia's place again and hopefully go on one of her tours. There's much more of this amazing town we'd like to explore and experience, e.g., kayaking down the river! BTW, we were there the end of April, just in time to enjoy the last weekend of Fiesta festivities! The weather was great, not too humid yet and wild flowers and birds abounded--especially at the missions. There I saw my first cardinal up close (scratch that off my bucket list) perched on a huge cross in a courtyard. What a blessing that was!!! The only downer of the entire trip was forgetting to bring insect repellent; don't know if it was mosquitoes or no-see-ums that got us.
What a lovely recounting of your San Antonio adventures! Thank you for staying at the cottage and allowing me to help you enjoy the city to its fullest. Sorry about the mosquitoes on the Riverwalk and at the Missions. Our crazy weather encourages them to thrive. I look forward to your return visit, so please don't hesitate to book again (and get a discount for your repeat visit!).
Close to the famous Riverwalk and the quiet and artistic section of the Riverwalk called the Museum Reach; blocks from the Pearl, a high-end culinary center; walk or drive to the, San Antonio Museum of Art, the SA Botanical Center, McNay Art Museum - and don't forget the Alamo!
