Welcome to our Up North home away from home- a quintessential North Woods cottage on the east side of breathtakingly beautiful Torch Lake. Come enjoy the enormous rolling front lawn to the lake, cooling maple canopy shading the afternoon deck and porch, warm knotty pine interior and stunning fieldstone fireplace.
Enter the fully provisioned kitchen (remodeled in May 2016) which opens to a casual dining area for eight. Authentic fieldstone from floor to ceiling frames one side of the dining room, the original birch bark bannister leading to the upstairs on another. Around the stone corner you will arrive in the living room. Warm knotty pine walls and birds eye maple floors are found in this room and fully throughout the main level of the house. The centerpiece of the interior is found in the living room, a gorgeous stone fireplace built in 1945 with stones right out of the lake. It has been converted to gas and warms the room now with the touch of a button. Look toward the lake through the doorway and windows to the interior porch area, once on the outside. We enclosed it for year round use. It's comfortably furnished with wicker and upholstered pieces, a favorite inside sitting area. A large screen HD tv is found here, WIFI is also accessible throughout the house. Lakeside windows span this room which opens to the exterior deck.
Additionally downstairs you will find two bedrooms with queen beds in each and two full bathrooms. The bathroom on the southern end of the house is accessible through that bedroom. The second bath is found through an alcove connecting it to the living room and other bedroom. The laundry area is just off the kitchen, part of the remodel in 2016. There is plenty of storage shelving and brand new stackable washer and dryer.
Up the birch bark bannister you'll find one large open area for sleeping with two full beds and two twins. The kiddos usually end up here.
Once outside, the lake view is panoramic. Our westward orientation allows for watching spectacular sunsets each evening. The expansive rolling plush lawn from cottage to shore offers a place for yard games and family fun. Our 100 feet of beach is half sandy and half pebbly for all your lakeside activities with a rocky breakwater in between. A campfire pit is located near the shoreline for evening s'mores and camp songs. We do provide a fair weather day mooring (round buoy) but prohibit overnight stays for boats as storms can arise quickly and be very strong. We encourage you to look into rentals at the local marina. We are also fortunate to be about a mile south of yacht club point which gives us a wonderful vantage point to enjoy the sailboat races each Sunday.
Located at the midpoint on the east side allows for easy access, a 5-35 minute drive, to Bellaire, Alden, Charlevoix or Elk Rapids. Traverse City is less than an hour away. Northern Michigan has become a destination for food, wine, and film. We hope you explore the endless choices these communities provide. A few of our favorites include: Dockside for burgers and more on Torch, Short's Brewery and Moka's in Bellaire, Pearl's New Orleans Kitchen (our kids' favorite) in Elk Rapids, and endless choices for fresh John Cross whitefish in Charlevoix. You'll find plenty of shopping too and we cannot forget to mention the nearly 40 fine golf courses within an hour's drive. Enjoy!
