Hemlock House is a lovely cottage just minutes from the gorgeous mountain hamlet of Highlands, North Carolina. Located in the heart of Horse Cove, you will find yourself surrounded by picturesque mountain views, the Chattooga River, roaring waterfalls, sparkling streams, horse pastures, and verdant trails through the Nantahala National Forest. Hemlock House is conveniently positioned just six minutes from downtown Highlands and twenty minutes from the village of Cashiers, North Carolina. Lake Glenville can also be easily accessed after a thirty minute drive. Enjoy world-class antique shopping or fine dining in the Highlands/Cashiers area or simply while away the hours on the screened porch with a good book and a glass of wine as the sounds of nature take away the stresses of daily life. There are many venues on the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau for those who enjoy outdoor adventures such as hiking, bicycling, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, water and/or snow skiing, fishing and horseback riding, to name a few. Wildlife is abundant in Horse Cove, as well. Whitetail deer and black bear are often seen in this natural enclave. In fact, as recent as September 2016, there have been several sightings of elk.
Hemlock House was built in the 1940's and was enlarged in the 1990's. In 2016, the interior of the cottage was completely renovated with new paint throughout, refurbished hardwood floors, new bathrooms; as well as the kitchen with new cabinetry and stainless steel appliances accented with gorgeous granite countertops. You will find flat-screen televisions with Direct TV access as well as a state-of-the-art Sonos system for your musical listening pleasure. There are three bedrooms. The bedroom on the ground level has a queen-sized bed with a breathtaking mountain view and ensuite bathroom. There are two bedrooms on the second floor with a shared bathroom. One bedroom has a king-sized bed and a comfortable reading nook. The other bedroom is perfect for children with four twin-sized beds in a trundle arrangement. There is a game table and a reading nook in this bedroom, as well. All of the beds have new mattresses with well appointed sheets and comforters. The living room is paneled in beautifully restored wormy chestnut that is original to the house and has comfortable sofas for relaxation in front of the large 55-inch HD flat-screen television. The fireplace in the living room is outfitted with new remotely controlled, thermostatic gas logs for those chilly mountain mornings or evenings. There is a airy and bright dining room that adjoins the kitchen for entertaining or quiet family meals. There is also a small television in the dining room in case you can't pull yourself away from that big game. A laundry room is provided with a washer and dryer should you need them while you are on vacation. There is a large screened porch on the front of the house equipped with rocking chairs as well as a dining table and chairs. The screened porch has a peaceful mountain view with meadows and a tranquil, meandering stream in the distance. The cottage is nestled on a grassy knoll that is approximately one acre in size which is surrounded by hemlock trees. There is a stone patio in the garden with a charcoal grill provided for your use as well as a table and chairs for dining al fresco. There is a convenient parking area behind the cottage for ease of access to the dining room and kitchen. Because we realize that a vacation is not the same without our furry family members, house-trained canines and kitties are allowed with a non-refundable pet fee of $100.
