Perfect getaway, all the personal touches, and comforts you can imagine!

  • 5 of 5

To put it quite simply, it was the most enjoyable stay I have had while using a shared rental service such as VRBO. Susie and Howard have gone out of their way to create a retreat. It is a big package for a small space. The kitchen is well stocked with quality tools, including locally roasted coffee and filtered water. The view was outstanding, with multiple locations outside and in to sit back, listening to the waves and watch the flowers grow. As hosts, they were more than welcoming and willing to share the history of the community. Our first morning there we were greeted by the sunrise through the patio and a specially prepared basket from Susie with hot eggs, fresh bagels, and homemade jam. Everything was clean, new, and yet held a comforting rustic feeling that will have you calling for more when your stay comes to a close.

Owner's Response: Jennifer and Annie, Thank you for the very kind review. Howard and I so enjoyed getting to meet you and so glad we had the opportunity to visit with you a bit. You both were the perfect guests! Everything was left in beautiful order. We really enjoyed talking to you and Jenny and we loved hearing about your work. And Annie we loved knowing about your PT connection. Hope you can come back again. We would love to have you here.

Absolutely fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in the amazing cottage! This was exactly what we were looking for. The views were beautiful and the town had quite a unique character. The accommodations were great, with unique and thoughtful touches throughout. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing under the gazebo while listening to the waves lapping on shore below. The farm fresh breakfast was delicious and filling. We could really tell the owners put thought into every detail of the experience. Our only regret is not staying longer! At least we took a bunch of pictures! We cannot wait to come back!

Exceptional cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We searched for a Christmas holiday retreat and found it just 12K away from our Port Townsend home. Perfect seaside setting overlooking Port Townsend and Indian Island. Hike to Chimacum Creek estuary—through the woods and along the beach. Nearby Irondale Park is an environmental masterpiece! The cottage had all the amenities, especially a winter view: clear skies the first two days; landscape of snow the final two days. Hosts (neighbors) Suzanne and Howard are now superior friends. The breakfast basket day-1 lasted two days. Inside, the appointments matched the scenery: bedding, blankets—do-it-yourself bedmaking on firm and comfortable fold-out—utensils, small fridge, perfect bathroom, and outstanding lounge-furnishings put the house in order. And nearby attractions, beyond the beach and view, are equally attractive. Our hosts were our guides. We're heading back to this every-season cottage—a promise.

Peaceful cottage with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Gracious hosts offer a tranquil cottage with a beautifully decorated interior, good advice for local attractions and eateries, and a welcome basket filled with local foods.

The property offers stunning views of the ocean from the porch, use of a gazebo which sits amidst a well-maintained garden area, and is a short distance from a beautiful beach walk.

Nourishing and rejuvenating stay!

  • 5 of 5

Waking up early in the morning, coffee in hand and wrapped in a blanket, to sit in the crisp morning air overlooking absolutely stunning views across the bay is a VERY good way to start the day! Susie & Howard were consummate hosts and made our stay exceptionally comfortable. The studio was very clean and well appointed with amenities and the eggs and bagels made for a lovely treat on our first morning.

If you are wondering whether getting up early with the rising sun to sit on the back porch is worth it .. don’t hesitate!

About Suzanne Learned

Susie loves good food and will tell you where the best places are to eat and have fun. She can point you in the right direction to visit beautiful gardens. Loves to cook, garden, read, go to Nia classes, and hike, these are some of her favorite things.

Suzanne Learned purchased this cottage in 1970

Why Suzanne Learned chose Port Hadlock-Irondale

This property was in my husband's family for over 100 years. It became a summer home and we knew we would end up here. In a short distance there is a cousin who lives in a log cabin built in 1932, He continues to keep it to look inviting.

What makes this cottage unique

I love that we are close to beach with the mountains near by. We used to be corporate nomads living from San Francisco to New York to Arizona. When I first saw this property all those years ago I felt like it was home. Scenery is so spectacular. And it's the people here that make the difference. People really following their dreams here more than any place I ever lived, nice too.
