2 Bedroom, 2 Bath with Gorgeous Views in Remote Wine Country
Set on a hillside, our cozy cabin in the woods is a delightful escape. Our guests often comment that it’s like something out of a fairytale. There's plenty to inspire the adventurer, artist, nature lover & romantic. Handmade and collected art peep out from every nook of the property. The meticulous grounds (25 acres) have a park-like quality with plenty of toys for adults, children & furry friends alike (hot tub, hammock, swings, fire pit, games). Stained glass windows & antiques adorn a separate studio known fondly as our "Tea House."
A stay at our 25 acre rustic retreat is a totally unique and joyful experience. The interior spaces are beautiful, comfortable and tiny, but you’ll probably spend most of your time outside in the surrounding natural beauty. Nearby hiking, biking and wine tasting is available. Justin Winery is the nearest (6.5 miles). If you’d rather stick around the cabin you might enjoy a game of badminton, corn hole, soak in the hot tub or find your favorite hammock/swing to relax in. At night the stars are spectacular! Firewood is available for both covered firepits.
Inside the main stone cabin we have room for 4 around the dining table, a cozy living space, a fully equipped kitchen, and an upstairs loft than snuggly sleeps two in a full bed. In the bathroom, a claw footed tub sits before the view of the garden and birdbath. We have books, games and movies for you to borrow. We’ve kept our home simple, but we have enough technology to keep you comfortable (wi-fi, air conditioning, heat, satellite radio). Fresh eggs from our chickens, fruit, home-baked sweet bread, tea and coffee await you in our kitchen.
If you’re staying with more than two guests, our 10ft x 10ft “Tea House” has a twin daybed and trundle bed. It's located about 75 feet from the cabin. It comes equipped with a coffee maker, air conditioning and heater. Even if you don’t need the extra sleeping quarters, you may find yourself lured here for some peaceful yoga as the morning light streams through our handmade stained glass window. Just behind the Tea House is a gorgeous stone bathhouse with a shower, sink and toilet.
Think of this remote location as a restful, rejuvenating escape.
The entire main house, tea house, hot tub and surrounding property are yours to enjoy in solitude. Our driveway is shared with part time neighbors, but chances are your hosts are the only people you’ll meet. We often encounter deer and other critters. Please drive slowly on your way out here and just enjoy the view.
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
We will greet you on arrival to give you a tour of the property, all it’s amenities & how everything works.
Your privacy and sanctuary will be respected, but should you need anything we will be reachable for assistance. We are happy to provide you with information on restaurants, hiking trails, bicycling, wine tasting, or various local events.
Our property is in the gated community of Running Deer Ranch. We’ll meet you at the gate to let you in the first time and then you will have a gate access for the rest of your stay. It takes about 40 minutes to drive here from downtown Paso Robles.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
Enjoy the wildlife and bring your own pets if you wish. Our chickens will be in their coop. Two cats live here too but will not be on site during your stay. Please be aware that you are in the country and wild animals are about.
Cell reception is inconsistent at the house, but works well at the top of our hill. Our land line is available for local calls or emergencies. You will also have wi-fi access.
Check in time is firmly required by 7:00pm at the latest! We will not be on premise to unlock the gate for you after 7:00pm.
We’ll meet you at the gate to let you in the first time and then you will have a gate code for the rest of your stay. Cell reception is spotty this far out so we’ll have you call our house from town to set up a rendezvous time. Early check in or late check out may be available upon advance request.
Smoking is not allowed inside any of our buildings but you may smoke outside. Please be aware of the high fire risk of this area and extinguish your butts with care.
Sorry, no parties will be permitted. No amplified music will be allowed outside after 10pm as it can carry across the hillside and disturb our neighbors.
Well behaved pets are welcome so long as you pick up after them. Please let us know in advance if a pet is traveling with you.
We welcome children of all ages! Please let us know in advance if children are traveling with you. We have lots of breakable items that need to be secured. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. Our Tea House is not suitable for young children, as it is a separate building and 75 feet from the cabin.
No open pit fires are allowed. Please use extreme caution when using the bbq and covered fire pit.
As a guest of Running Deer Ranch you are permitted on the main roads and our property. Please respect private driveways and do not trespass onto private property. The Las Tablas Boat Launch Area is considered private property and may only be accessed in the company of a Running Deer Ranch resident.

About Dinah Lundbeck
Hello! My husband Rich and I are retired but busy grandparents, artists & stewards of our land. Wherever we travel is bound to be naturally beautiful because we love outdoor adventures. We also enjoy immersing ourselves in the local culture’s food, music and crafts. When we bring home a memento it often inspires our next artwork. We hope a stay at our property will spark your own creativity.
Dinah Lundbeck purchased this Cabin in 1997
Why Dinah Lundbeck chose Paso Robles
We love Running Deer Ranch and have owned this property since 1997. Life in the country is peaceful and you’ll find the long drive out here to be quite rewarding. On a clear night you can see the Milky Way dancing across the sky. Mornings we often sit on our porch swing, coffee in hand and watch the birds and deer come to drink from the fountain. For years we have been delighted to entertain our friends and family here. Our grandchildren love this place! It's a treasure land for young and old alike. In July 2016 we began renting it out for vacationers and the public response has been overwhelming! We look forward to sharing this lovely slice of the good life with you!

Amazing get away!
The home and property are stunning. We had such a relaxing time enjoying Dinah and Rich's beautiful, welcoming home. It was so restorative for us and we wish we could have stayed longer. Loved being out in the country and enjoyed driving the back roads into Paso Robles to explore. Such a great place and warm, caring home owners.
Couldn't have been better!
My husband, dog and I stayed at Dinah and Rich's cabin this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. This place was everything we were looking for and more. The love and attention they have put into the cabin is apparent. They built the whole place themselves with obvious care and dedication. It is such a special place that was built with love.
The house has everything you'd need and we were very appreciative of the farm fresh eggs, fruit and pumpkin bread left in the fridge for us. The house was lovely but the property itself made the experience outstanding - a fire pit, swing, hot tub, and 28 acres to hike around on. Our dog had an absolute blast exploring the place! We also loved the beautiful view from the top of the property where Dinah and Rich have left chairs, blankets and plastic wine glasses. We spend both evenings watching the sun set from this tranquil spot.
Dinah and Rich were both great to communicate with. We really appreciate them sharing their home and hope to come back again in the future!
If you get a chance to host this couple, do so! Sarah and her husband are really wonderful people. They were so appreciative of our place and treated everything with care and respect. They did more than we asked in cleaning up and left us a beautiful note in our personal “ host book”. You couldn’t ask for more! We’d love to have them come again, and so will you.
Escape by backpack no longer in the cards? Disappear here.
The remote location of this cottage offers howl at the moon privacy without sleeping on the ground, cooking on a camp stove, cold bathing and bears stealing your food. The cottage, she shack and utility buildings are a gallery of Richard's craftsmanship and Dinah's art creations and collections. Besides that, my favorite things were the hot tub, fresh eggs from the just up the hill hens, and the fire pit before the rain started. My wife loved being able to bring our dog, the bath tub view and the she shack. Because of near constant rain, we were unable to explore hiking possibilities. My gps and my bad decision about where to exit 101 led us astray on our arrival. The stairs to the loft bedroom were a chore for my bad knees.
In summary, we were charmed by the Lundbecks and their cottage.
Thank you, Wynn, for your very complimentary review. From our point of view, we have extraordinary guests! We really don’t know why we’ve been so lucky, but thank you for coming! Have a wonderful year with blessings throughout. Dinah and Rich
Beautiful cozy cottage
We really enjoyed our stay, everything was perfect!
Would have happily stayed for weeks!
What a beautiful, special home. Loved seeing the result of so many years of hard work, creativity, and thought. Our favorite part was the outdoor living space, which was such a respite for us city folk, especially the hammock chair and the chance to build a fire and enjoy the view even when the sun started to set. Great location for exploring the local wineries, too.
Jesse, his wife and guests were a joy to host. They were very gracious and enthusiastic. They followed all the house rules and cleaned everything beautifully. I couldn’t have asked for more! We hope to see them again someday. Dinah
Artistic, rustic but homey cabin in the hills - all you could hope for in a getaway!
Dinah and Rich are delightful and their home is a treasure. There is love and beauty in every square inch of this place. Not only were we (4 writers on a retreat) delighted with the surroundings, once we got there we opted not to leave! Who needs town when you have all this?
Dayna and her girlfriends, all writers, were exceptional guests! They were so enthusiastic and wanted to please in every way. They cared for our place beautifully and I could only hope that they might visit again some day. Any host would be delighted to have them as guests! Dinah
