About Shelda

I have been in the vacation rental business for 20 years and LOVE what I do.

Some of the homes in Maggie Valley on VRBO are owned by me and my husband, and I manage others. I am so fortunate to live in these beautiful Smoky Mountains and I enjoy helping vacationers by sharing my knowledge of the area.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I have stayed at three of their locations and each one of them was great. I've been to Elk Point twice and plan to stay there for another month, we were at Fox Loop the week before Christmas and the kids love the hot tub. In February we stayed at Bear Haven what a great house we were lucky that it snowed and got to go to cataloochee skiing and snowboarding. Shelda and Katie are the best and I would never go to anyone else for rental properties in Maggie Valley

Needs lots of TLC!!!!

  • 1 of 5

Pros: Beautiful cabin, wonderful views, comfy beds, clean spa, lots of dishes & towels, close to town, firewood provided, dog cages & small dog doors

Cons: Dirty, needed repairs, poor customer service, need 4wd for snow, dog friendly, lack of privacy during winter (many windows have no blinds).

Dirty: Dog poop on floor, toaster was full of stuck food, toaster oven & main oven needed deep cleaning, many cobwebs in upstairs bath, shower caddy mildewed, large cobwebs by the front door, stained carpet in living room.

Repairs: fireplace broken, smoke detector disconnected and hanging from wall, front door handle loose & very difficult to open, heater needs servicing, microwave needs replacing, clogged drain in the upstairs bath, several sets of blinds were missing from the bedrooms, couch needs replacing.

Customer Service: check in instructions incorrect, no thermostat instructions, light switches were hidden, nice towels were hidden, lack of concern by management.

We arrived in freezing temperatures to be directed to the wrong location for the lockbox. When we found the keys, the front door handle wouldn't let us in the house. We couldn't find the light switches to the kitchen or get the thermostat to stay on heat and the fireplace didn't work. After sleeping in a frigid cold cabin with two small children, we were told how to work the thermostat. It took 12 hours to warm the house.

I had to complain 4 times before the fireplace was inspected. The first 3 times, I was told we just needed to light it with a match. On the 4th try, they admitted to knowing the fireplace was 'finicky', the owner had been notified 2 weeks before our stay that the fireplace wasn't working properly, but it wasn't repaired, with no apologies.

TIPS: If you do stay at this cabin: the lock box is by the FRONT door; keep wiggling the front door handle and it will eventually open; the kitchen light switches are next to the stairwell going to the basement (and may be hidden by the brochure basket); the thermostat can be adjusted with the arrows and then quickly hit the 'hold' button once (don't hold the 'hold' button); the nice fluffy towels are at the bottom of the towel cabinet closest to the laundry room; if there is snow, do not pull into the short driveway (which slopes towards the house), the snow melts, makes ice and you can't get up the drive; bring scissors, paper products, wraps, toiletries, garbage bags, dish & clothes detergents; no blender or mixer on site

Owner's Response: The purpose of this response Is not to sound defensive, rather, we would like to clarify a few of these issues in order for future guests to understand better. As most people should realize based on how long this guest's review is, this guest was overly picky. Our management company prides themselves on handling any complaints/issues in a timely manner. We begged this guest to allow our cleaning staff to take care of the cleanliness issues she brought to our attention and she refused but continued to complain. We told this guest time and time again that a match needed to be used to work the gas logs. We had always known this. It was nothing new and previous guests were able to use it. It finally went out upon this guests stay and we replaced the logs immediately which corrected the problem. The dog feces were in a closed off, unheated, concrete storage room in the basement and unfortunately our cleaner had not seen it when she did her routine clean between guests. The check-in instructions are very clear and detailed. The lockbox is located at the back door which is the door that guests would first walk up to upon arrival and parking in the driveway. In this case there was simply a difference of opinion as to what is back and what is front. We will change this in the check in instructions to make it more clear. The instructions also explain that the key must be slightly pulled out of the lock to open the door. This guest must have missed these instructions. Many rooms do not have blinds as they are not needed in regards to having privacy. The home is located in a private lot which would not allow for anyone to have the ability to look in the windows unless they came up into the main porch. We hope that future guests will take a look at all the 5 star reviews (in fact, all but one other 4 star review were 5 stars) this home has and consider this one an anomaly.

We had a great time. Maggie Valley has several great restaurants, skiing, and a snow tube place.

We loved the floor plan of the cabin. It has a bedroom and bath on each floor. This worked well for our grown children. The mattresses were comfy and bedding nice. The kitchen is pretty well equipped, countertops and bathroom floors a little dated. We had a little snafu when we first got here but the property manager quickly resolved the issues. Since the property is pet friendly, I’d suggest they remove all carpet. The location is awesome, just off 441 and in a subdivision but sitting inside the cabin, the views are lovely. You feel like you’re isolated in the woods. I’d recommend this property and would definitely stay here again.

One of the greatest vacations yet!!!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this home. It was very nice with plenty of room. It was not on a main thoroughfare but close enough to everything. It had a jacuzzi as well as a pool table for relaxation and fun for all ages. We did not want to leave today when it was time to go. We would definitely stay here again and plan on doing so in the very near future.

Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is very comfortable for 4+ adults. Close to town but the wooded lot provides privacy. The view is also amazing without having to drive way up a mountain. The driveway is a little steep, but that is just how it goes anywhere in this area. The garage is a big convenience for motorcycles, but be advised trailer parking can be tricky. Also, there is a church nearby that rings church bells every 15 minutes from 7am-9pm. The noise is not overwhelming, but is frequent. We rented this property for 5 nights and everyone agreed that we would definitely come back.
