About R. C. Grencik
I'm an old 'Surfrat' who has spent a vast majority of my time traveling the globe looking for waves. I retired in 2009 from the Fire Service. Like everyone, I've had some challenges, but I keep a smile on my face most of the time and laugh at myself fairly often.
R. C. Grencik purchased this House in 1988
Why R. C. Grencik chose Tamarindo
I purchased this property in 1987, which was long before Tamarindo was 'discovered' - literally, there was nothing there. At the time, if you wanted a quart of milk, you had to travel to Santa Cruz, which is about an hour away. I built the home between 1993 and 2002 (I didn't have pocket fulls of cash). Since I was intimately and directly involved in all phases of the construction and Tamarindo was quite primitive at the time, I had to bring down most of the materials i.e., plumbing, electrical, etc in those 32 and 18 gallon Rubbermaid plastic bins. Even though I have been active in my life, the construction and logistics of building this home was one of the most challenging things I've ever done. Since I've spent a fair bit of my time (and money) chasing waves in the backyards of the world, I knew that one day I wanted to retire in the Tropics and Tamarindo seemed to be a good place. Although it's changed dramatically over the years (show me a place that hasn't changed in 20 years), overall, it's still a great place to kick back and enjoy life. Besides, when I'm in residence (I have a small 'casita' studio above the garage that I stay at occasionally), I not only stay out of your way, but you even have your own in-house Costa Rica advisor.
What makes this House unique
Overall, probably one of the best 'values' in Tamarindo (especially when you consider having the use of 2 Surfboards; boogie boards; 2 Bicycles that comes with the house). No matter what your preference is, whether it's surfing, or laying in the Hammock, this is the place people continue to return back to. 'Remember, work less, Surf more'

The property is simply amazing. A very relaxed atmosphere. Located on the quite side of Tamarindo Beach with quick town access into Tamarindo along a beautiful beach walk. Had a wonderful time. Rik (the owner) was on site and is one of the nicest and most accommodating guys on this planet. This place is highly recommended.
The AC in the bedrooms worked perfectly. The house was very clean. Super close to the water. Just take a left out of the gate and the trail is 15 steps down. Epic close, epic fun.
Had a wonderful time!
Thanks to Rik and all 😊
Great house, perfect location
Tamarindo is a beautiful beach town with lots to see and do. The town is a short walk up the beach from the house with tons of great restaurants and coffee shops.
Rik was not here for our trip, but Kata was and she was the best hostess ever! Even answered her door at 11:00 pm when we had a question! So sweet and helpful, and her shop in town-Papaya Con Leche is a must see! They make their own shoes and swimsuits! Rik’s helpful notes before the trip and at the house were extremely helpful.
The house is just steps from the ocean. The beach near the house is never crowded which is so wonderful!
The house was perfect for my family of 4. Air conditioning in the bedrooms was great! Beds were super comfortable, and bathrooms are a great size. Iranian did our laundry for $10 and had it folded nicely on the bed when we returned for the day.
Lots of great toys to use like boogie boards and surfboards.
We rented a car, but you really wouldn’t need to do that if you didn’t have any need to leave the area. There are taxis you can take all around town if you wanted to get a ride back to the house instead of walking.
Thanks, Rik and Kata for opening your home to us and making our stay perfect!
Lael and Family:
Thank you so very much for your kind words regarding the House and how the Team took good care of you. Unfortunately, during your stay I was in the States dealing with the passing of my beloved Mom. Although that was extremely difficult for me personally, it is comforting to know that Kata, Irania, and rest of the Team took good care of you in my absence.
Please come back and see us again so that I can meet you and attend to you personally next time.
Wishing you the best in all that you do !!!
This home was simply amazing!
Communication with Rik was fantastic and due to unfortunate events we were unable to meet him in person but his girlfriend Kata was there for us and was wonderful. Thanks again for opening your beautiful home to us!
Tammy and Family:
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. As you know, unfortunately, I was unable to attend to you personally due to my Mother being in the hospital (thank you for your understanding on that as well).
We'd Love to have you back for you to once again enjoy Casa de las Olas and so that I could meet you in person.
Be Well and Thank you once again.
Rik was very helpfull and our stay was great
Included in the price of the House are 2 'Soft-Top Surfboards and 2 'Beach Cruiser' style Bicycles, which saves you approximately $100 each day of your stay if you were to rent these items separately - like the boards and the bikes, all of it is for the exclusive use of the Guests. Boogie boards; coolers; and many other "Toys" are also included. Additionally, the Bay (Bahia de Tamarindo) is perfect for SUP (Stand-Up-Paddleboarding), which you can rent in the local area.
