FAB Mtn Views. Lake Placid Club Historic Cottage, Walk to Village & Lake

Bedrooms 4

Space 2,800 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Cottage, 4 Bedrooms, 4.5 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

Enjoy the Adirondack lifestyle in one of the original Lake Placid Club Cottages. Elms Cottage was built in 1926. The pine hardwood floors, screened porches, stone terrace, and stone fireplace retain ELMS' original charm. Rustic elegance with top of the line furnishings. The High Peaks and the Olympic bobsled run are visible all year from every room except one.

There are four bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bath. The master, with a Beautyrest Black king bed and screened porch, is on the second floor. The second bedroom upstairs has two twins with original Lake Placid Club iron frames. One of the first-floor bedrooms has a queen bed. The other first-floor bedroom is set up as a second gathering area with a queen sleeper sofa, two chairs, and a TV with DVD player. This bedroom has a screened porch. The sleeper sofa is a sling style; i.e., there are not any iron bars across the frame, so nothing to dig into your back. It has a Stearns and Foster mattress. It's actually comfortable!

Huge windows provide stunning views of the High Peaks and the fabulous ADK skies from the living room, dining room and kitchen. There is a great flow among the living areas which are comfortably furnished in the Adirondack style.

Plenty of wood is provided for roaring fires in the stone fireplace in the living room. The bookcase in the living room is stocked with plenty of books, puzzles, and board games, as well as a BOSE Wave music system that will connect to your phone or iPad.

The fully-equipped gourmet kitchen has a dual fuel range, a full complement of small appliances (from waffle irons to a NutriBullet), plenty of wine glasses, and place settings for twelve. The laundry room with a new, large capacity washer and dryer is just off the kitchen.

The landing area on the second floor has a desk and a printer/copier/scanner.

The stone terrace off the living room provides stunning views of the mountains and the Olympic bobsled run. It has rocking chairs and a small dining table. There is a large yard with ADK chairs, a gas grill, and plenty of room for kids to play (adults, too!)

There is so much to do! It's an easy walk from Elms Cottage to the Village of Lake Placid, Mirror Lake, and Lake Placid itself. In the Village and around the lakes you'll find shopping, the Olympic hockey stadium and ice rink, public tennis courts, a public beach, boat rentals, equestrian stables, restaurants, and pubs.

You can also walk to the Lake Placid Club golf courses. Challenge yourself on the two championship courses or enjoy a quick nine holes on the Club's executive course.

In the winter, you can ski from ELMS Cottage to trails that crisscross the golf courses. Downhill skiing at Whiteface Mountain and cross-country skiing at the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg are a short drive away.

Lake Placid, the home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, is 2 hours from Albany, 2 hours from Burlington, VT, 4.5 hours from NYC, and 2.5 hours from Montreal.

NB: Please inquire if you are interested in fewer nights than the minimum requirement. We may accept fewer nights to fill in holes in the calendar or in special circumstances.

Why Becca, Debi & Lisa chose Lake Placid

After many years of vacation rentals in Lake Placid one of the original Lake Placid Club cottages came available. We couldn't resist. We wanted the comfort of knowing we could count on comfortable furniture and beds, a truly great view, an easy walk to town and both Mirror Lake and Lake Placid, and a well-stocked kitchen, including plenty of wine glasses. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

What makes this cottage unique

ELMS is in a unique setting, set among a small enclave of the few remaining Lake Placid Club cottages, all built circa 1925. You are so close to town - but you'll feel miles away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

On September 26, 2014 seven of us from Western New York traveled to ELMS COTTAGE for a weeks stay. Our goal was to take in the autumnal splendor of the Adirondacks. After researching rental houses in Lake Placid, we chose ELMS because of its size, location and because of the photos with the listing. We chose well. The house exceeded our requirements. We found the location perfect, within walking distance of much of what the village offers. Fully equipped in every way, beautifully decorated, and very clean.

The setting of the house was most impressive. Lots and lots of room with a large country table for big dinners and games. The best of the house is the back porch, completely furnished with rockers and a breathtaking view. We spent many hours watching the scenery change every few minutes. Only the magical colors of the season could outshine ELMS. Our week was perfect in every way.

Outstanding Property

  • 5 of 5

We had an excellent stay at the Elms. Plenty of space to accommodate up to 4 couples. Breathtaking views of the mountains and easy access to Mirror Lake and the town of Lake Placid. We plan to return in the Fall to see the leaves changing. We could not be more pleased.

Beautiful home in a beautiful town!

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming to Lake Placid the same week for hockey camp for the past three years and this home is by far our favorite. It is roomy, very well kept and extremely clean. The best part is the walking proximity to Main Street and the arena! We will certainly be back!

Headed North for a pleasant change of a Winter Vacation

  • 5 of 5

I had some hesitations about driving North in mid-January, but so very glad I did! Winter in Lake Placid is how winter should be! Snow-capped mountains and lovely Evergreen trees, schoolkids skating on Mirror Lake, and, of course, the cozy retreat at ELMS! (By the way, the roads are well-maintained and I had no trouble driving the 4 hours either way)

We had everything we needed to make our meals in the large kitchen, and everything we needed for pure relaxation before and after: a large kitchen table, and wonderfully comfortable sofa and chairs by the fireplace where we enjoyed tea, coffee, wine, or Hot Chocolate. No shortage of Adirondack books, I read Adirondack History and Adirondack Fiction, and made summer plans on where to hike with all the Trail and Nature Guides Also a great selection of Jigsaw puzzles and games!

Our rooms were top- notch, ( if you've ever been to The ADK you know how well one sleeps in the mountains!) supplied with the coziest of linens and blankets... I was tucked in and restored after my stay, and sad to head South when I had to leave! ELMS in the winter is a treat for anyone who wants to experience the quiet of the season, nestled in the comforts of an Adirondack Lodge. If you're from New England you'll be pleasantly surprised to find that not all winters are gloomy days of sleet, ice, and salt!

Owner's Response: Hi. Thanks so much for your lovely review of ELMS Cottage and Lake Placid in the winter*. We're glad you found the cottage to your liking and appreciated the little ADK features that were fun for us to collect. It's good to know that LP really is accessible in the winter. We have only been there in the winter once - but your review has us convinced we must go next year. Kind regards, Marian and Mike (owners) *I'm wondering if you are from the Chamber of Commerce?? : )

A very enjoyable home with outstanding views of the Peaks.

  • 5 of 5

The home was as described, well-furnished with many Adirondack style pieces and wall hangings. Everything in good supply and operating condition. Beds very comfortable. Views of Adirondack Peaks were outstanding. Close to downtown Lake Placid but in a quiet residential area. A home that welcomes guests!
