About Heather Soame
My name is Heather Soame. I am a retired school teacher and school vice principal. I love landscaping and animals. The two work hand in had as I have developed Jungle Roost into a botanical garden that attracts an enormous variety of birds, butterflies, 3 species of monkeys, sloths, iguanas and much more. I purchased Jungle Roost because of its private jungle location and close proximity to one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches. My staff all love the property and enjoy working with me to keep Jungle Roost a wonderful place to be.
Heather Soame purchased this House in 2000
Why Heather Soame chose Manuel Antonio
It is so private yet close to all amenities. I looked all over Costa Rica and this was the only property I wanted. I was very lucky to find it and be able to buy it.
What makes this House unique
I stumbled upon Jungle Roost when I was walking to the beach one day. There was no for sale sign but I couldn't get the amazing setting and architecture out of my mind. After looking at many places for sale I finally told the real estate agent that the house I loved was not for sale. I described it to him and he said, "You're in luck. It is for sale we just haven't posted a sign yet. And the rest is history.

Lovely and locale cant be beat!
Had a great time. Luis was fantastic! Monkeys were tons of fun and btw the wildlife and the pool, there was lots of entertainment for me and the kids, Thank you!!!!
Everything we could have asked for and more!
Our stay at Jungle Roost was an amazing experience. The house is incredibly well appointed and beautifully decorated. We had daily visits from monkeys ... the howlers sure make a great alarm clock!
Luis, the house manager, is an absolute god send. We opted not to rent a car and Luis arranged taxis, excursions, pizza delivery the night we arrived and even a cooler of drinks at the beach. He really made our trip a success.
I will say the “short walk to the beach” is down (and eventually back up) a very steep hill, but the beach itself is gorgeous with big waves and not too crowded.
Jungle Roost was a perfect stay for our crew (2 adults and 3 kids ages 10, 10 and 6).
Our 10 days at the jungle roost was beyond amazing. 3 kinds of monkeys visited, plus tons of other wildlife. Luis was a great help. I recommend this place 100%.
The Jungle Roost was everything we expected. It was comfortable with fantastic outdoor and indoor space. We made good use of the pool and bbq. The wildlife was incredible; sloths, MANY monkeys, iguanas, birds, etc! Impeccable location. Beach and many restaurants are within a close walking distance. Great A/C because it was hot when we rented, it was much appreciated! Luis, was phenomenal as our conceigeree. Whatever and whenever, he was our guy and had us at the right place. Utilize his connections, he did a fabulous job and made our stay a special experience!
We stayed at Jungle Roost for 11 nights in April 2019. The house was very light and spacious, and well appointed. It is perfectly located, with a couple of excellent beaches within 15 minutes walk, and plenty of good restaurants and a supermarket a similar distance in the other direction. It is fairly steep walking though, so can be quite a challenge in the heat.
The area is fantastic, we went on a number of trips which were great fun, and also gave us a view of the country outside of Manuel Antonio. We can particularly recommend the zip lining (we went with El Santuario), white water rafting and horse riding were also great days out.
All were booked through the concierge, Luis, a more friendly and helpful man you will never meet. He was on hand for anything we needed throughout the stay, and always with a smile!
The star attraction though was the outside area, a fabulous pool and spectacular wildlife. We saw 3 types of monkey, the squirrel and capuchin monkeys regularly playing on the balcony areas, toucans, humming birds, iguanas, agouti, and best of all sloths. And all from the garden area and balconies. There was always something to see, and kept us entertained for hours.
We can definitely recommend Costa Rica and Jungle Roost - we would love to come back!
The house was beautiful! Kitchen was well equipped, lots of room, pool was clean & larger than expected. We saw a sloth & monkeys at the house. Luis was exceptional! He made the stay very comfortable & helped arrange all our excursions. Would highly recommend. Only downfall is the hike to the beach. It’s very steep & a difficult trip with children. We rented a taxi the rest of the week to take us to the beach & back home at a fair price.
Thank you for your review. It is always nice to hear positive things about Jungle Roost. Your advice for people with young children regarding the hike up from the beach is helpful. The walk down is lovely but having a car rental, or calling a taxi means that you can drive down to the beach with the coolers, picnic, etc., without having to carry a thing. Thank you also for your kind words about Luis. He is very knowledgable, a wonderful person and greatly appreciated by all.
