About this property

LOCATION:
Beautiful property set among the hills of Liguria. It overlooks a typical Ligurian village and is located only 10 km away from the sea and from Sestri Levante; the closer airports are Genova Cristoforo Colombo (at 50km) and Pisa Galileo Galilei (at 110km). The village (shops, bars, groceries, newspapers, etc.) is within a short walk through a steep pedestrian track. The property enjoys beautiful panoramic views of the mountains and the sea.

THE PROPERTY:
The old Ligurian house, on 3 floors and 350 sqm, has been recently completely renovated and is surrounded by 4000 sqm of beautiful terraced gardens and an orchard. The swimming pool, set next to the house, is a converted water cistern of approximately 8m x 8m with overflow and a splendid view over the mountains. The west terrace offers a spectacular view of the sea and Sestri Levante.

THE HOUSE:
The house has been completely rebuilt with traditional materials though in a contemporary fashion. It is fully equipped with all comforts. Tastefully furnished, the interior design blends contemporary and Scandinavian vintage pieces.
The house has been published in several important design and decoration magazines such as Coté Sud, Ville e Casali, Casaviva, Case di Campagna.

GROUND FLOOR:
Entrance, living room with a double-sided fireplace, open kitchen and dining room, bathroom. Several doors open on the surrounding terrace and the swimming pool.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all necessary kitchenware and household appliances (built-in gas hob, oven, microwave oven and dishwashing machine).

FIRST FLOOR:
Sitting room with flat TV and satellite, 3 double bedrooms (two double-bed rooms and 1 double room), 2 bathrooms (1 with shower and 1 with shower and bathtub).

2nd floor (attic):
Sitting room with flat TV and DVD player, 2 bedrooms (1 double-bed with a third bed/sofa and 1 double room), 1 bathroom with shower.

In the cellar there is a washing machine, a dryer and an additional fridge with refrigerator. Internet access ADSL + Wi-Fi; PC and printer for guests use.

Parking space for 4 cars.

The house is not suitable for small children because of the high terrace, unprotected staircases, high walls, overflow pool...

A cleaning lady is included for 2 hours everyday.

Additional services can be provided: transportation to and from the airport/railway station, private chef, cooking classes, etc.

What a view!

With 180° views on the sea and mountain, this property offers privacy and tranquility 5 minutes walk from a simple, laid back, Ligurian village with its cafe and general store and 10 minutes drive from the beaches...The property offers everything and more for a large group of family or friends, places to be at all hours of the day including the west terrace for sunsets and aperitivi....The pool is divine, one step from the house. It is hard to leave but the area offers so much: small eateries, the 5 Terre, Camogli and Chiavari and Genova a city not to be missed.

A villa between sea and mountains

We had a wonderful week at Casa Leopoldo, with our 4 young adult children. We have often rented villas in Italy; and this was by far the most wonderful experience we have had. This villa in Liguria is beautifully decorated and offers beautiful views of the mountains and even the sea. The gardens and orchard offered an abundance of fresh herbs and delicious apricots and plums, which we could pick. The al fresco dining was a special experience on the beautiful terrace. The nearby picturesque villages are wonderful to explore and there are many good restaurants. We have made day trips to Cinque Terre, Camogli, Portofino, Chiavari, Lucca.... We will definitely come back again, 1 weeks was not long enough

PURE HEAVEN

A week in paradise. The house is sexy and extremely comfortable. Lot of spaces inside and outside where to relax. Delightful swimming pool with views on the mountains nearby. Fabulous sunsets from the dining area outside. Perfect welcome...wine, fruits, vegetables, pasta in the kitchen. We will definitely come back !!!

Magnificent property 20 minutes from Sestri Levant

This is a gorgeous property that is beautifully cared for and a 20 minute drive away from Sestri Levante. It was a wonderful place for 5 couples to celebrate a long friendship. We enjoyed the pool, gardens and many patios. The kitchen was beautiful and the house had everything we needed. We hired Marco to cook dinner for us two nights and it was fabulous. The house is perfectly situated looking both up the canyon as well as down towards the ocean. The location was perfect with wonderful hikes and the village had the perfect spot for evening drinks and our morning coffee. We enjoyed many day trips to Portofino, Lucca, and Sestri and we appreciated coming back to this serene spot at the end of the day. We will definitely try to stay at Casa Leopoldo again. Thanks to Monica for sharing your home.

I spent two years in Cambridge and got my masters degree in Environmental design from MIT.
I then move to Italy where, after an architecture stage with Giancarlo De Carlo, I join the Corporate Image department of Olivetti in Milan.
A passion for modernist furniture, I collect XX Century Design pieces from Scandinavia and Brazil.
I pursue my career as an architect and art director for private and commercial projects.
I have a passionate approach to architecture adn design and my interests embrace visual arts, communication and new media. I love our country retreat where I spend as much time as possible...The property is named after my father, Leopold Unger, journalist and writer who loved this place as much as I do

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with a romanitc ruin, embraced by a Wisteria tree overlooking the small Ligurian village of Castiglione Chiavarese, with views of the mountains to the east and sea to the west. A lot of hard work to push the project through the Italian bureaucracy, the property was finally ready in the summer of 2008...
