About the property

An Off-Grid Hideaway By The Creek

On our homestead, we have two OFF-GRID tiny houses in the woods at the back of the property. No, they do not have electricity (thus no AC or TV). BUT, they do have solar pumped running water that's heated by propane, a gas mini-frig, gas heat, ceiling fans run by car batteries, lots of battery lighting, excellent compost toilets, full size showers, a futon in the living area that makes a full bed and a full platform bed in the loft, a large front porch with swings and rockers - all on a meandering creek surrounded by huge trees and wildlife.

About Bill & Mary McGinn

We are retirees, who took up farming in our old age! We both grew up in South Carolina, but bought the farm to get away from all the development in the Fort Mill area. We love Oconee County. The pace is slower, the people are friendlier and we can see mountains everywhere we go. We also love history and there's lots of it here.

Why Bill & Mary McGinn chose Westminster

Bill's mom grew up here and there are cousins up and down the road. We are blessed to bring the farm back into the family and to live here everyday.

What makes this cabin unique

Not only do we offer some unique lodging options (a renovated tenent cottage, cabin tents with wood floors and tin roofs and RV sites with horses for neighbors); we are also a working homestead. So there are interesting things to see and do, while you're here.

This home is very cozy. It's a bit rustic with the "sawdust toilet", but it is very peaceful. After a 12 hour shift, it was great to come home to no noise, except for the woods around us. My wife and I have a battery pack to charge our phones, so didn't need to run the generator at all. All of the lights are battery operated, so plenty of light. Bill and Mary provided everything we needed and took great care of us. Overall, a great place to stay and very affordable.

Private and serene!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I planned a last minute getaway for New Years and stumbled upon the tiny house. Bill and Mary are such sweet people and very welcoming! We read everything about the tiny house and were really nervous about being off the grid with no power or flushing toilet but Mary set our minds at ease when she showed us around the tiny house. This house is so adorable and so cozy. The only thing I would change about the tiny house is more board games for rainy days and a longer timer for the motion sensor light in the bathroom. Bill and Mary, thanks again! God bless.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for spending the weekend on the farm. We're delighted that you enjoyed the tiny house. Now that you've stayed in one, you'll know what to design into your own tiny house. Take care! Mary
