Overview

About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5-6)

Casa Luna is a privately owned and operated condominium and is just 75 yards from the beach in a small, 7-unit complex across from the Tropicana Hotel on Calle Amapas. The unit has been very recently remodeled and redecorated with a modern flair.

Master suite has king bed TV,DVD and stereo w/CD player. Second bedroom has 2 double beds. Modern A/C in both bedrooms.

Living room has A/C flat screen cable TV/DVD/VHS and stereo w/CD player. Private patio offers jungle-like setting with a table and chairs. There are security gates at street level and on the unit itself. The condo is also fully screened. Bedrooms are QUIET and you can actually sleep. No roosters crowing! No donkeys hee-hawing! (well, maybe in the distance)

Fully stocked kitchen with microwave, full size refrigerator/freezer, toaster oven, blender, mixer, you name it. We have a more well-furnished kitchen in PV than at home in Seattle!

We have a great security system with electronic gate at the street, 5 security cameras and phone/buzzer to allow access for visitors. Plus our particular unit is secure with metal bars all around.

Casa Luna is perfect for families with children. It's so close to the beach you can just take the little ones home for a nap in the quiet, air conditioned bedroom or for a quick lunch. (been there, done that!)

This is a perfect location for those who seek a more cultural Mexican experience. We have cobblestone streets (with sidewalks) and the big fancy hotels have not invaded yet! Located in South Town or 'Zona Romantica', the condo is within easy walking distance of all services, numerous restaurants, sidewalk cafes, shops and e-mail cafes. Car rental, groceries and laundry all within 1 block. Tourists from the larger hotels frequent the well-known restaurants in this area of town.

There is abundant night life within a few blocks, including the famous Andale'. Playa Los Muertos is one of Puerto Vallarta's most popular beaches, lined with bars and restaurants providing beach service. Beach activities such as parasailing and jet skiing are available, as well as several snorkeling, boating and fishing trips which depart from the pier. Swimming is safe near the pier, you can rent boogie boards there. (NOTE: new pier is currently under constructions but trips still departing using water taxi transportation)

You will not need a car to stay in this area but car rental is easily available almost next door. Bus service in Puerto Vallarta is quite good and cheap! You can walk to the bus stop in about 10-15 minutes.

About Walt and Karen

We have been traveling to PV since 1983 and have seen many changes over the years. Fortunately, PV has manged to hold on to it's charm, especially in the 'Zona Romantica' or 'South Town' area where we still have cobblestone streets. After renting for all those years we finally decided to buy a place. In 2001 when my friend's place came up for sale we bought it, spur of the moment! We have really enjoyed re-decorating the condo and putting together the patio garden. Half of each trip is spent upgrading the place. It has been a pleasure to meet our clients and we have made several friendships over the years. Many of our clients are repeat renters.

Walt and Karen purchased this condo in 2001

Why Walt and Karen chose Romantic Zone

Puerto Vallarta has a certain charm that we have found nowhere else. The Mexican people are so nice and really work hard to please you. The prices are still way below what you would pay in Hawaii. We love having a place so close to the beach that if we forget something like sunglasses we just run back and get them in 5 minutes, round trip.

What makes this condo unique

We love to sit on our patio in the morning and have coffee. There is usually a small restaurant open next door and we can smell the bacon cooking. Around 11 am we stroll across the street to the beach. We have a favorite beach hangout during the day that is similar to 'Friends', where everyone knows your name. At night we step out the door and walk down to the beach for the sunset and maybe dinner at the pier restaurant we call 'CCs'. Then we can continue to walk all the way down the boardwalk or 'malecon' to the city center, shopping along the way or stopping for ice cream or an evening cocktail. Artists are out, selling their wares all along the way. At the malecon we can enjoy a free show in the amphitheater.

Sometimes we will decide to go to Mismaloya beach for the day in which case we walk 15 minutes to the bus stop and pay our 40 cents to get on a bus. From there we can continue on to the PV zoo or down the road to a little town at the mouth of the river called 'Boca' (mouth) in Spanish.

Our daughter spent 5 weeks in the summer of 2011 staying in the condo and walking to the U of Guadalajara extension program for Spanish lessons. Then, she spent most of the 2012 summer there after graduating from high school. Our Mexican friend Felipe, who likes to run marathons, had her up and running (literally) at 6 am every day.

We just enjoy being so close to everything but feeling like we aren't. There are only 7 units in our building so we feel like we are away from it all but in reality it's all just right outside our door!

Great condo by Los Muertos Beach

  • 5 of 5

Nice old style condo complex that terraces up hillside above Amapas. Steps from Los Muertos / Blue Chairs beach. No view but very roomy, comfortable and clean. Big private deck. Effective modern A/C in living room and both bedrooms. Master bedroom has little natural light, but is very quiet. Owners are easy to communicate with and provided excellent service. No complaints, would definitely stay here again.

Good location, comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

We had a little hiccup when we arrived because of power outages in the neighborhood, but Walt and the Armando (the property manager) were awesome and gracious - and exhibited great communication throughout. All was fine when power was back on. I only mention this because when things don't go as plan (on vacation and in life), it's great to feel like folks care and are willing to do whatever it takes to improve the situation. Now about the space:

Pros:

Near beach - just a across the street. Made going back/forth to condo easy.

Near great places to eat (we planned to eat at home a bunch, but it was too hard with all those great places)

Easy to get taxis (our main mode of transport)

Well equipped - pots, pans, blender, toaster, books, filtered water cooler

Air conditioned!! and fans.

Good space and multiple bathrooms (we're a family of 5)

Clean

Nice to have a responsive building manager and easy to work with owners.

Felt very safe.

Easy point of departure for our day trips.

Cons:

There's a lot of construction going on (that seems to be the theme in Zona Romantica) so sitting out on the deck wasn't really that fun. It also just looks out on to the street and the hotel across the way (not view).

If you're looking for luxury setting, views, or a "resort" experience, this place is not for you.

If you're looking for a great condo, well equipped, and want to be in a great location in town, near all the action, great local restaurants, and near a beach - this is works great.

All the comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at Casa Luna and we will go back again. Very comfortable accommodations with newer air conditioner units in both bedrooms and living room although we never used the one in the living room. By keeping the front door and patio doors open we had a nice breeze to keep us cool. Fully furnished with everything you need to just move in, like living in someone's own personal home. This unit is on the second floor and has a very large patio overlooking the street below. We had all of our breakfasts out there as well as our evening drinks. The owners are very accommodating and they have a great management and housekeeping team in place to take care of any problems. You can not beat the location as it is just one block up from Los Muertos Beach and just a few blocks walk to the heart of the Romantica Old Town with plenty of shops and restaurants. In our entire 2 week stay we never took a cab as it is so easy to walk anywhere you need to go. With the addition of a new pedestrian bridge (couple years ago) it is also an easy walk to the main shopping area on the Malecon. We highly recommend you consider staying here at Casa Luna.

Perfect Location for an amazing price

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa Luna for a week and the location was absolutely perfect. We were close to everything we were hoping to be (literally 3 minutes walk to Blue Chairs) and there are plenty of markets, restaurants, coffee shops and shops nearby. The condo is spacious and quaint and with the newly added intercom system to let in guests it's perfect for having some people over for drinks on the big patio right off the kitchen.
