About the property

Our home is a comfortable, welcoming house in a great location for your visit to Victoria with easy walking or biking access to downtown, the inner harbour, Beacon Hill park, Cook Street Village and the waterfront on Dallas Road. The house, built in 1914, has been fully modernised in the last ten years to provide 21st century comfort in a period environment.

The space. The accommodation is perfect for two couples or a family. The upper level provides a sitting room, dining room, kitchen, master bedroom (king size bed and full ensuite bathroom) and a guest bathroom. The lower level provides a double bedroom, living room, sleeping area with two single beds, full bathroom and utility room with washer and dryer.

Both levels have direct access to the private backyard. Upper level access is from the kitchen via a raised deck – the perfect place to relax and have your morning coffee or prepare your evening meal on the gas barbecue in the warmth of the propane heater. There is a separate ground-level door from the backyard that provides direct access to the lower floor. The outside space also includes a patio at the front of the house – perfect for evening cocktails as the sun goes down.

Guest access. You will have full use of the main and lower floors of our home and the front and back yards. Access to the attic floor, which is unoccupied, and certain storage areas will remain locked during your stay.

Guest interaction. Our home is yours to enjoy while we are away. You will be contacted on your arrival by our Victoria representative, who will be available to answer any questions you may have about your accommodation.

Facilities. Fully equipped modern kitchen with gas range, microwave and dishwasher. Laundry with front-load washer and dryer. Wi-Fi with two flat screen TV’s equipped with Apple TV. Gas barbecue and outdoor heater (on deck). Pack n Play crib for infants. Parking for one car is available in our driveway with additional on-street parking in front of the house.

The neighbourhood. Our homeis located on a leafy street in the quiet neighbourhood of Fairfield. We are half a block from the ocean at Dallas Road, with views over the Juan de Fuca Strait to the Olympic Range in Washington State and the possibility of sighting a pod of orca cruising by; a block from Beacon Hill Park, a beautiful urban green space populated with an abundance of flora and fauna; and two blocks from funky Cook Street Village, with its multiple coffee shops, restaurants and pub. The iconic Empress Hotel, Inner Harbour and downtown Victoria are a short 15 – 20 minute walk away.

Getting around. Most amenities and points of interest are readily accessible on foot or by bike. There is a local bus service if needed from May and Cook Streets.

Charming, well located home

My family of 4 and a set of grandparents had a most comfortable stay in this charmingly renovated character home near the beach. We were welcomed with a thoughtful food basket to start our trip - the homemade jam was especially delicious. The home was very clean and cared for well in a walkable neighbourhood of other character homes. All the necessities were available and the kitchen well appointed if you like to cook at home as we do. The backyard deck was lovely and a great spot to have a cup of tea and read. Having 3 bathrooms with showers and/or tubs was a bonus. All the beds were comfortable and linens fresh. The beach was only a short block away. Though cooler summer temperatures when we visited, we still spent hours exploring the beach. The water was too chilly for a swim as Melinda had already advised. We rarely used our rental car as we were able to walk easily to explore Cook Street village shops (grocery stores, restaurant, pharmacy, coffee shops etc.), Beacon Hill park and all the tourist attractions near the wharf. We had a most delightful stay. Our family highly recommends staying at the McLean's home.

Great neighborhood minutes from the bustle of downtown

Very comfortable home located in a neighborhood of eclectic houses. A short five minute walk to the water where the sights of the mountains with snow covered peaks is breathtaking. The home is nicely furnished, well stocked with kitchen supplies for those who prefer to dine in, and updated with stainless steel appliances. The entire kitchen has been extensively renovated with granite countertops and new tile backsplash and floors as well. Both bathrooms on the main floor have also been renovated. The owners have obviously taken great care in updating their home while keeping some traditional older features like the interior doors and higher baseboards throughout.

Our grandkids thoroughly enjoyed the lower level which gave them a place to hang out away from the adults. This level has sleeping quarters for four, it’s own bathroom as well as an area for watching television or playing games.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this home if you want to avoid the noise and traffic of the inner harbor area yet still be within a 20-25 walk to the harbor. Drive time to the harbor is approximately 5-7 minutes.

Our visit occurred during late November when it is cooler. I can only imagine how beautiful the backyard and deck must look during the summer months when all the foliage is in full bloom. I will definitely rent this home again on our next visit to Victoria.

Wonderful and convenient to so many things

The house was perfect for our gathering of four friends who are turning 60 this year. We loved the outer decks, the charming walk to the water, amenities, laundry service, and the nearby Cook Street neighborhood. Would be delighted to return--highly recommended!

Great place to stay while exploring Victoria

We loved this house! Good hosts, very clean, lots of character, and a great location. Walked to the beach, got a coffee in the great little neighbourhood, played at a super playground, walked to downtown for lunch and sat outside on the deck in the sunshine. Lots of room to spread out in the home. We are hoping to return again.
