Recent improvements Sept 2016: Major remodel just completed!! Every surface inside the home is brand new. Granite counter tops, stainless kitchen appliances, all new window, doors, totally remodeled bathrooms (rain head shower head in walk in shower). Part of basement is newly finished.

FIREWORKS here are the weekend before the 4th and you can view them from your boat or off the Hartwell Dam.

Only 1 hour to Greenville SC which has been written up as one of the top 10 downtown revitalizations in the country! A must see with 100 restaurants downtown, world class museums and waterfalls a short drive away. A must see! Only an hour to an hour and a half to UGA or Clemson University by car. You can also go to Clemson University by boat from here. It's only 60 miles to Helen, GA where you can raft the Chatahoochee (world class white water rafting on the Chatahoochee) , ride a zip line or enjoy Octoberfest in Helen. Tallulah Gorge is only 50 miles away where you can pan for gold, hike and ride bikes. There are 3 waterfalls you can visit at Brasstown Falls.

WE HAVE GREAT WATER! Twelve feet at the end of the dock and 25 feet deep in the middle of the cove. You can rent a boat at Gordon's Marina. We have a canoe and Kayak here for your use along with life jackets. We have seen and heard of people catching good size fish right at our dock.

Home of the 'Astonished Fish' (see photos). The first time you sink into a chair and take in the lake view you will understand. This is truly a unique property and you will be surprised at how much you relax even in the first 24 hours. Screen porch is newly done in Caribbean colors

Very peaceful setting with a good water view. Sit on the swim dock and watch the sunset. If you bring a boat you can launch about 10 minutes away and tie up to our swim dock. Enjoy the deep (25' deep in the middle of cove), clear water. A natural spring keeps our wide, deep cove flowing and clean. Large screened porch is a favorite place to eat or wake up with a cup of coffee while being mesmerized by the water. Abundant wildlife in the area including beaver and red fox and turkey, Heron and Canadian Geese.

Wooded area directly across the water is reserved as Park land so you are looking at only nature. The masonry fireplace makes it a perfect year round get away. Living Room has cathedral ceiling and the property has been newly painted inside. The Master Bedroom has a luxurious King Size Select Comfort air mattress bed with individual controls. The Guest bedroom has a new King bed. The basement sleeping area has a Queen bed There are two sleeper sofa's in the living room making it a home that can sleep at least 8. There are two full baths. There is Wireless Hi-speed internet access.

The kitchen is fully outfitted with microwave, dishwasher and icemaker. There is a gas grill on the large side deck. There is a grill near the driveway for charcoal. There are dining tables on the deck, in the screen porch & in the great room. The lower patio is covered and has seating and is decorated with handcrafted fish made by local a craftsman (snap a photo of the one you like and we can have one made for you). The gently sloped walkway from the driveway to the deck means there are zero steps or stairs to navigate entering the home, making it easily accessible even with walkers or wheelchairs. Great neighborhood for walking or bike riding with virtaully no traffic. Enjoy!

Short drive to scenic Greeneville and Ashville.

10-15 minutes to Restaurants and Shopping.

About Mark Lotane

Our Dock has ALWAYS had good boatable water at least 8 feet at the end of the dock even during the recent historic drought. Dock redone with new wood in 2016

Mark Lotane purchased this house in 2006

Why Mark Lotane chose Hartwell Lake

Lake Hartwell has good, clean refreshing water. It is much quieter than some of the other major Georgia lakes.

What makes this house unique

We thoroughly enjoy the peace and solitude of the lake whether having meals and drinks on the dock, or taking a short boat ride out to one of the undeveloped islands. The water in our part of the lake is spring fed and always feels clean and fresh.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful weekend here at your place - brought the boat from the marina in Hartwell where we keep it. All of us want you to know how much we enjoyed it! This was the Best Mothers Day I can remember!

I love your house because it is unique and has so much personality- very comfortable.

PERFECT lake home for relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our two older boys for Thanksgiving. We loved it! Quiet, relaxing, very clean home. We fished off the dock, canoed, and sat on the deck just to look at the lake and the fall colors. The home is very nice and updated. Clean, well-equipped kitchen (even for Thanksgiving!!)comfortable, and plenty of space for everyone to relax and hang out. We did not want to leave and cannot wait to come back. Would give it 6-stars if able.

Fall on the lake is beautiful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay at the astonished fish. Excellent location, very quiet cove with only trees directly across (nobody was in homes on either side although we were told it gets busy in area in summer), everything you could possibly need in kitchen, loved the eclectic decor, ate on glass/screened porch, read and fished off dock, used canoe (be warned it is a super heavy canoe covered with some type of foam and looks a little dubious but works fine once out in water). We went to Talullah Gorge State Park, Toccoa Falls, Covered Bridge State Park and the walk out to Hartwell Dam - all worthwhile trips. Came for the Fall feeling and changing leaves which miss now that live in FL. Husband got to watch Cubs game which made him happy. Dock could use a little attention as we had to walk on a board from walkway. Plenty of room for two couple or larger family. We plan to return with family in early summer including granddaughter we know would love to be able to jump off dock and with boat son in law can drive so we can explore more of lake. Was exactly what we were looking for as an escape for the two of us.

Quiet piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for a long weekend getaway for our 18th wedding anniversary. So glad we chose the Astonished Fish! We only left the lake house once to venture into town to get supplies at the local Ingles. Otherwise we were out on the dock fishing and swimming or lounging on the porch overlooking the lake. The kitchen is stocked will all you could need and the grill is in perfect working condition. You can tell this owner takes care of the property and is seems as if it is undergoing some remodeling - we like what we see! :) Thank you for allowing us the pleasure of staying!

An amazing getaway! Everything was perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect home!! It was super clean and completely updated! The decorations were so fun. We fell in love. Beautiful property and we enjoyed the quiet. The Lake is incredible and we spent our days on the dock swimming and fishing. We rented a boat and docked and had lunch on the awesome screened porch. Great place and we hope to come back again!!

Very Nice and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

I used this property as an overflow for my nearby lake house when I had a large number of guests for the weekend. Everyone had great things to say about it, and the recent renovations are great. we will use this again for a family reunion this year, as we have for the past 3 years and highly recommend it to others--- except, of course, for the times we want to rent it!
