Perfect House for Large Groups

  • 5 of 5

Honestly, I was hesitant to rent this house based on the other review but it could not have been more wrong. We did get spotty service while using our navigation on the way to the house, however, the directions the rental office gave were very detailed and we made it there with no problems (it's just a few minutes off the main road and honestly, you're in the mountains so it's to be expected). The house is fairly secluded but we all considered this to be a plus and couldn't wait to enjoy the beautiful view the house offered from the outdoor hot tub. We chose the house so we could spend Saturday skiing at Killington since it is only a 10 minute drive from the house. The layout of the house was also great for our large group since the living area, dining room and kitchen are all open and we were all able to sleep very comfortably. I even hope to book the house again next year.

If you're looking for a house for a large group you can't get much better than this.

Nice potential vacation house BUT

  • 2 of 5

Booking the house was easy, but staying in the house was hard. My group was going to arrive late so we called them to let them know so they can leave the keys at the desk. When I called them, they told me this house is literally secluded. There is NO cell phone reception whatsoever but they will have a phone and wifi at the house. Getting to the house was confusing. Fyi, you WILL need a AWD car, if you don't have one, you will run the risk of getting stuck going back up the hill. Upon entering the house, we noticed it was kept clean and nice BUT the nightmares started to happen. Turned on some lights in the room and half of them didn't work. There was a broken window too but that was caused by the last renters. The PHONE AND WIFI did not work at ALL. There were no notification that the wifi and phone were not working. No phone call or email to let me know they weren't working. Thank God nothing happened to anyone at the house because if it did,I would have to drive out 10 min in the complete dark to get service. The rental company put my group at risk. I emailed them as soon as these problems arose and just gave me an excuse about the phone company being on strike. Best customer service EVER being sarcastic for those who cannot tell. Only thing working was the television, hot tub, hot water, some lamps, and heat. So for those who want to rent this house, be prepared. This is NOT a house for groups that want to enjoy their trip. One more thing, for a house that sleeps 16, there were only 4 forks and 3 spoons. Well played killington rental house management, well played

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, The heading of this home reads: "THE RIVER HOUSE SECLUDED" That means we try to explain that the house is secluded, Than the first sentence reads; This home is set along the Tweed River just before the scenic Village of Pittsfield. Rustic, secluded with total privacy. Cell phone service is spotty and 4 wheel drive vehicles are required. We are aware that one of the windows has a star in it as a previous guests broke it, it is scheduled to be replaced. It is a double pain window of which one had a very small hole in it that ended up tearing. There are no edges exposed. Royal Glass of Rutland has had it scheduled but the weather has been too extreme to have it done in -20 degree weather. We checked the draws for silverware we found in access of 20 forks, 20 spoons and 20 knives. They are in the draw next to the sink. We checked all the lights, and they are controlled by both a switch at the lamp and entrance switch, some of them were not in sink, not all were plugged in. All in all we found one bulb out, and found spare bulbs in the cabinet over the Microwave. I regret but there was no phone or wi-fi service, we depend solely on Fairpoint Communications and have not been able to get them to come out. They were on strike from late fall till about 2 weeks ago. The River House is what it is. A large home with a private hot tub near Killington in a secluded location that requires 4 wheel drive, there is limited cell service and sleeps a lot of people at a reasonable price. We agree that phone service and wi-fi is essential and are working on getting this fixed.
