The "Paddle House" is a charming Craftsman located in the historic Old Bend neighborhood just south of the downtown core. Our bungalow is just two short blocks from downtown shops, great restaurants and art galleries and only a 15 minute walk to the Old Mill District. The Deschutes River with Drake Park, hiking and biking trails, kayaking and tubing are just a short walk away also and the Mt. Bachelor ski resort is only a 30 minutes drive. Bend was named “America’s Best Trail Running Town” by the editors of Outside Magazine. The new Bend Market of Choice is a 5 minute walk away and we are four blocks from one of the best bike rental shops in town.
Other amenities include a gas fireplace, gourmet kitchen, washer/dryer and two full baths with heated tile floors. We kept the original maple hardwood floors in the living room and yes, they still squeak, but they have been beautifully refinished. Each bedroom has a queen size bed with a memory foam topper and there is La-z-boy sleeper sofa in the living room with their top of the line mattress.
Our calendar is always up to date. Please check it for available nights.
Come be our guests and enjoy!
Sharon is a real estate broker and Mike is a general contractor. They currently live in San Diego but find Bend to be the perfect second home. They love their Bend neighbors and think the Old Bend neighborhood is the hands down best for all-season access to everything Bend has to offer.
Mike Bythewood purchased this bungalow in 2006
We found Bend completely by accident. Our only prior experience with Oregon was visiting Brookings on the coast just north of the CA border and found the stereotype of OR weather to be spot-on. Wet and chilly, even in the summer.
Fortunately for us another road trip from Jackson Hole, Wy to Florence, OR took us directly through Bend.
We fell in love with the place. It was February and the weather beautiful! Stopping for gas we asked for directions to Mt. Bachelor. The station attendant who was wearing shorts, advised us not to head up to the mountain that day, because there were blizzard conditions. Yeah right, we thought. Bachelor only 20 miles away and it was nice and sunny in Bend.
To make a long story longer... the attendant was right. We started our journey and at mile 5, it started to snow. At mile 15 it was snowing REEEAALY hard. By the time we got to the resort parking lot we were in complete white-out conditions and could barely see to park.
Well, we had a very a nice lunch in the lodge, and, after a very short discussion, we decided skiing an unfamiliar mountain in whiteout conditions would probably not be wise. We resigned ourselves to return another day.
Resuming our trip to Florence, we were delighted to find little Hoodoo ski resort (two lifts) just west of Sisters. After two fun hours of skiing in clear conditions we still made the coast and Florence by 5:00 pm for the rehearsal dinner.
Our next trip to Bend was in the summer and that sealed the deal for us. The people, weather, community, dining, and outdoor life are everything we wanted for a second home. So we bought one!
THE END... and new beginning :-)

Summertime on the front porch talking to neighbors and passers-by. Walking to downtown restaurants and shops.
Hi Dave -
Thank you for the email. We had a wonderful time in Bend and the house was absolutely perfect!
Enjoyed our stay at your home. Decorated very cute and stocked well. Nights were cozy with the little gas wood stove. Look forward to staying here again.
This was reserved for our daughters wedding weekend and we couldn't have asked for a better location.
We had the best time with family and friends and with no worries to have to board our pets. The Paddle House was perfect from start to finish. Mike & Sharon are amazing!
Very comfortable house and great location (close to town)!
It is conveniently located a few blocks from downtown Bend. The owner is very easy to work with.
First off my communication with Mike was awesome from the beginning of securing my reservation to even after we left. That's big; because if you needed anything he is quick to respond! The property is fantastic and walking distance to Market of Choice, Starbucks and many restaurants and breweries. At the time we went it was kind of cold and rainy so we opted for using our car everywhere. The Paddle house was very clean and filled with amenities. It was a home away from home. We would definitely stay there again! Thanks Mike!
We really enjoyed our stay in this cozy house. We were in Bend to visit family in Sisters, Oregon and to see the area. This house is right off Route 97 (but not too close) so traveling back and forth to Sisters and around the area by car was very easy. We walked downtown several days and drove to the High Desert Museum in minutes. The owners put a great deal of thought into this house, because everything you could need to be comfortable and relax is available. The house was super clean, very nicely decorated and a perfect size for an extended stay. We gave our family members a tour of the house and we will all recommend this to other family visiting the area.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT VRBO / HOMEAWAY CHARGES ALL RENTERS A VARIABLE "SERVICE FEE" WHICH WILL BE INCLUDED WHEN YOU REQUEST A QUOTE.
Here is VRBO / Homeaway's explaination of the service fee...
The service fee is paid by the traveler when booking through the HomeAway websites. This fee covers the cost of providing 24/7 customer support, enhanced site and mobile features for both owner and travelers, plus expanded marketing efforts to generate more exposure to global audiences. Additionally, when a traveler books and pays through HomeAway, they are eligible for the Book with Confidence Guarantee.
Paying the fee
Travelers pay the service fee by credit card when paying through the secure HomeAway checkout process. The service fee is only charged to the card once the booking has been accepted by the property owner or manager. The service fee is, on average, approximately 6% of the rental amount, excluding refundable deposit or taxes. This fee is lower than other travel websites that charge a similar fee.
Refunding the fee
The owner does not have the ability to discount or waive the service fee amount. The only time the service fee can be refunded is when an owner uses the Cancellation Refund feature from their dashboard and the cancellation is requested within the terms of the owner/manager's cancellation policy. However, if the reservation is not canceled and all payments fully refunded to the traveler, the service fee will not be refunded.
