Guestbook comments from the owner

Your cabin was so fun! The weather turned out to be great. Charlotte and I had fun walking around outside, walking from the backyard to the front yard. Playing around down by the water. It was great seeing her with all the butterflies outside. We were going to have a bon fire Sat night but we stayed late at the festival. Thanks for having us. You have a beautiful place in a wonderful area. We hope to be back soon.

Cozy and awesome

  • 5 of 5

This property has everything we were looking for in a nice weekend away - a fire pit, fire place, lots of places to sit and hang outside, a grill... we came up from NYC where most of us have none of those things, so we really enjoyed them! The space was perfectly sized for our group of 5, cozy but not too small, and not so big that you'd lose things/people in faraway rooms and nooks. Bonus points for the colored Christmas lights plus unusual art, photography, and odds & ends that made us feel like we were in an episode of Stranger Things!!! :D Carla was really nice and showed us how to use everything when we checked in. Overall great experience, we're already talking about coming back!

Cozy, lived in, cottage

  • 4 of 5

Carla is a wonderful host. Extremely attentive to renters needs and makes herself available if anything comes up. The place is tucked away in the hills right next to a small river. The location was perfect for us to go hiking around the Catskills. The house is cozy but was plenty of room for 4 people. The fire pit by the river is perfect for summer nights. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5/5 is because the place is pretty lived in, with old beds and household appliances. I truly didn’t mind it and found it quite charming, but the price for the place is a bit higher than I would have liked to pay for a more lived in experience.

Beautiful getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!

  • 5 of 5

This vacation was exactly what we needed and hoped for! Beautiful, pristine, and relaxing - one with nature in all it's glory! Not a single cigarette butt, no empty water bottles, papers or trash of any kind... anywhere! Quiet, relaxing, recharging! Our two Greyhounds even loved it! The house had everything we needed and Carla was the perfect hostess. She even left treats for the dogs and let us know we could extend our stay a day or two extra, as no one would be renting the house immediately. She was very nice and very considerate!

Only a few minutes from Phoenicia if one wants a tavern, restaurant, gift shop, gas station, or corner store. Close to Woodstock for a nice ride and shops.

The grounds were beautifully decorated with flowers, trees, bushes - all left to grow as nature intended. We will be back again, most likely in October, to enjoy the fall changing of the leaves. Highly recommend staying here and dealing with the wonderful owner, Carla. Do yourself a favor and book your stay now!

Sit by the babbling stream with a fire

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is quirky, artsy, and old. So you will probably love it or hate it. I chose it because of the location by the stream and I was not disappointed. We were lucky to have good weather amid a rainy spell, so we spent 2 evenings with a nice fire in the large fire pit--the owner even provided the wood, which I thought was very generous. (In winter there's a woodstove). The owner greeted us and showed us around the cabin. She's an artist and some of the artwork is hers, and the collections and bric-a-brac are personal to her. I enjoyed it and each day found something new to examine. I loved the floor lamp with a rustic base made of branches, but topped with a Victorian shade. The beds and bedding were quite comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom are dated, and the place is cluttered...so decide whether this is the place for you. Remember, you are close to Woodstock! Don't come here and nit pick the things that are wrong--just sit back and enjoy the eclectic stuff, the trees and flowers, and the babbling brook.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure meeting you. I have heard you and have been decluttering the house. Many items have been removed and the bathroom is getting renovated. A new bathroom floor, ceiling and sink have been added and a new shower is coming within the month. I do hope to see you again.

Cozy getaway with a firepit and a stream

  • 4 of 5

Carla was very hospitable and kind. The house has all amenities and the yard is beautiful. There is a firepit right beside a stream with firewood to use. There is no cellphone service, but there is wifi. Keep this in mind while driving in for the first time as the navigation may get mixed up. The house feels very solitary, but there are other houses around it, so if you are looking for a remote cottage in the woods this may not be the right fit...for us it was perfect as we mostly hung out by the stream and hiking elsewhere. This is a home that is lived in, so it has the charm and character that goes along with that, not to mention most cooking utensils you would need, interesting books to read, and board games. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

Perfect place to relax with family and dogs

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights at Carla's place for the Memorial Day weekend and had a great time. We prepared our own meals using the fully equipped kitchen and BBQ grill outside. The deck behind the house offers a great opportunity for enjoying your meals outdoor. We also enjoyed the fire place at the back of the yard along the creek where we spent all our evenings. There was plenty of fire wood available for use. Our dogs enjoyed the yard around the house. There was no need to keep them on the leash. The other dogs in the neighborhood are friendly and traffic is very light. We can definitely recommend Carla's place.
