About the property

Casa Grande: Four Bedrooms/Baths with all Services on beautiful 40 acre Estate

The CASA RAAB "experience" includes visits to traditional markets, museums, handicraft villages, ancient ruins, and Oaxaca's fabulous restaurants, churches and art galleries.

The Casa Raab estate is 40 acres in size and offers safe hiking and exploration of creeks, caves, mineral springs, an onyx mine, and our maguey (agave) plantation. Morning and evening walks on the land or in the village offer cultural tranquility with outstanding views.

We offer assistance in planning all aspects of your trip. Meals are wonderful, the mezcal is made on site and "world class", and a frequent open mike musical venue happens here at the Casa.

The on-site US owner/managers can help arrange professional touring services. We specialize in "transportation solutions".

Our Mexican staff will give you a warm and friendly welcome. They supply comfortable service, information, and hospitality in a light-heated manner. Traditional Oaxacan meals are available twice a day, with housekeeping and laundry services cheerfully provided.

The Casa Grande (5 bed/4 bath) can serve up to 10 people.

Larger groups can add La Casita (2 bed/1 bath) for a total of 15 guests. (See La Casita listing). The main dining room can seat and serve up to 15 people.

Both houses have access to the swimming pool. Internet is available throughout the compound. An extensive DVD-VHS movie library is available as well as a nice selection of books.

About Anthony & Rebecca Raab

Our family began the Oaxacan adventure when I (Anthony) was 15 years old. I have been coming to, and working in, Oaxaca ever since. I have been in the import-export business with Oaxacan handicrafts much of my life. My wife Rebecca and I now live on the family estate on a full time basis.

Anthony & Rebecca Raab purchased this bed and breakfast in 1965

Why Anthony & Rebecca Raab chose San Pablo Etla

Casa Raab was begun by my parents in 1965, so for us it is a happy 2nd Generation decision. Generally, though, it is the Climate and Weather! People who settle here from other places are primarily convinced to live here because it is so nice outside most of the time. Houses are designed so that less time is spent indoors, and more out on the patio. Eleven months of the year you don't need interior heating nor cooling...especially when staying in our adobe-walled houses. Of course Culture, Art, Food and Music also have major impacts on most Oaxacan decisions.

What makes this bed and breakfast unique

Whether it is a large group of friends & family, or just a traveler or two, Casa Raab offers a unique experience of the Oaxacan countryside. This is a true village atmosphere, complete with some primitive adobe dwellings, a town square and small herds of animals on the street occasionally. We are just minutes away from modern Mexican society, but on our property it is quiet, peaceful and beautiful. A certain timeless feeling is in the air. Visiting the city and doing all the "tourist activities" can be demanding, and it is always nice to retreat back to Casa Raab for an evening meal and a quiet night's sleep.

Exceptional week in Oaxaca!

  • 5 of 5

We had an eclectic group of 8 descend upon Casa Raab for Oaxaca's fabulous week - Dia del los Muertos and were welcomed with open arms by Rebecca and her team. Everyone in our group is grateful for the Casa Raab comfy accommodations and fabuloso support in getting to know more about the region. Every word of the description and photos provided are accurate and understated for the experience we enjoyed - read it and believe it! Every morning we awoke to a bountiful breakfast and we made arrangements for dinners that reflected the local cuisine and were delicious. Every bedroom was an inspiration of art, textile and comfort, everyone enjoyed the privacy of their rooms.

We were a busy group, traveling the region everyday, so we didn't spend as much time as we would have liked enjoying Casa Raab and San Pablo . . . but we will return and plan to enjoy more "down time" on this lovely property and community. Owner Rebecca is an exceptional, knowledgable local who gently guided our experience and managed our energetic group. This home and setting is for the casual traveler, which is a good thing! If there are any ratings below excellent for Casa Raab, these folks didn't read the accurate listing.

Fresh towels, refreshing pool, plenty of space, abundant food and beverage, expert info on local artists & history, friendly animals and lots of love punctuated our week at Casa Raab.

Rebecca's mission for animal care is legendary, appreciated and everyone in our group was moved by her commitment to caring for animals and the environment. Many thanks, mil gracias for our groups' welcome at Casa Raab, we all feel like part of the family!

Sun,comfort, and quiet setting

  • 4 of 5

Casa Raab lives up to expectations and its description. I had the happy experience of staying in La Casita for 2 months and loved the country setting, the friendly and helpful owners, Tony and Rebecca, and, the friendly neighbourhood. Oaxaca city lives up to its promise in all respects and I look forward to returning. Although taxi transportation is available, a car for longer stays would be an asset.

Casa Raab Highest Recommendation

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Casa Raab, both relaxing and having adventures. We went hiking every morning in the beautiful hills, ate the delicious meals provided, relaxed by the refreshing pool when it was hot, and appreciated all the caring details in the spacious rooms, filled with traditional arts and crafts. After the intensity of the city of Oaxaca, it's great to retreat to this quiet country setting. Tony and Rebecca are gracious, knowledgable, and helpful hosts.
