Located on the lower slopes of Mount Nevis, the property benefits from great views yet only 5 minutes drive from the beach. The house is set in arguably one of the nicest private gardens on the island. Lush tropical plants, palm trees and fruit trees with spectacular views 180 degrees across the Caribbean sea and St Kitts.
Extensive accommodation includes on the upper level 3 large bedrooms, all ensuite with imported Spanish marble tiles and jacuzzi baths. The large Great Room features a very well stocked kitchen and extensive seating area with entertainment centre inc Plasma and cable TV. To the rear is a screened verandah where one can relax overlooking the gardens and rain forest and watch the monkeys or hummingbirds!
The best feature of the property is the large screened front verandah with a seating area and dining table which can, if required, seat up to 12 adults. It offers spectacular views of the pool, garden and the Caribbean sea across to St Kitts.
On the lower level the owners have built a family games room which extends the width of the property. This features pool and air hockey tables and a settee which converts to a double bed capable of sleeping 2 people. Adjoining this room is a large ensuite wet room and wc ideal for washing off the sand after a day at the beach.
Hummingbird House is situated in a very small development with no passing traffic. The neighbours are friendly and local professionals.
The nearest beach is only a 5 minute drive away, accessed via either Jessups or Barnes Ghaut villages, whilst supermarkets, Charlestown and airport are only a 10 minute drive away.
Just wanted to drop a quick note to thank you so very much for letting us enjoy your home in Nevis.
Hummingbird House was wonderful and we fell in love with Nevis and the wonderful people who call it home.
The only draw back is that the time flew so quickly and there was so much more to see, do and enjoy! We never managed to get back to Double Deuces and Mark and Lyndy-so they will be on top of our list next trip. Hummingbird House is pure perfection...again wish we had spent more time there. That kitchen is certainly set up to cook and entertain.Had we not wanted to soak up every beach and garden we certainly could have idled time right there for the eight days. We did enjoy the pool in the evening and that view is incredible.
My wife and I have visited multiple islands, and have rented multiple homes, throughout the Caribbean for 13 years. It has always been our goal to choose a new island, have a new experience, and visit a new home, each year. However, after spending a week at Hummingbird House, it is hard for us not to rebook this lovely home for our next Caribbean holiday. When we arrived and found the fridge to be stocked with everything we need to enjoy our first day on Nevis, we realized that Richard takes hosting his lovely home to another level. The picture postcard view you see herein from the pool of Hummingbird House (looking at St. Kitts) is exactly that...a picture postcard. The home's screened in porch is perfect for enjoying as many hours in nature as you like. Pool temperature was right on...poolside furniture was very comfortable...bedrooms were comfortable and quiet...and the kitchen was well appointed with any dishes or appliances you could want. Starting the day on the back porch (also screened in) in the company of hummingbirds and monkeys set the tone for many lovely days on Nevis. Some personal travel tips: 1) the manager of the Turtle Time restaurant can hook you up with a local fisherman (a gentleman from South Africa) who will sell you fresh wahoo and mahi mahi (perfect for grilling on Hummingbird House's fabulous gas grill) ; 2) to experience the wonderful hospitality offered to visitors of Nevis, go to the Water Dept. BBQ on Friday night (a short distance from the Ram's Supermarket in Charlestown). Even better, buy the chef's a beer...you will make new friends instantly; 3) a lunch and a hike around the beautiful gardens of Golden Rock Plantation will be another highlight of your trip to Nevis. 4) A day trip to Nisbet Plantation will be time well spent (home of the best rum punch, IMHO, on Nevis). Having had these wonderful experiences, we now understand why Richard owns this home on this island. Do yourself a favor and book a week at Hummingbird House...just don't take my week for next year! :-)
We felt instantly comfortable the moment we walked up the stairs to the gorgeous pool area: the owners could not have made better choices with the lounge chairs and group seating area on the deck! Views are totally incredible... We enjoyed the front screened porch on hot sunny afternoons and lazed away the evenings there listening to tree frogs chirp. The morning sun porch revealed sweet sightings of vervet monkeys cavorting in the gardens most days. Very photogenic if you are quiet. Comfy beds in private ensuites with A/C just what we Houstonites thought we needed until we realized it is better to leave windows open at night to hear the crickets and birds.
Perfect views of gardens from each room, and we appreciated the suggestion to cut fresh flowers to bring tropical color to the table. This house has everything you need in the kitchen for easy bbq meals. The very few constructive comments we have will best directed to owners privately. With two couples, we could easily have accommodated 1 more couple, maybe a few older teens. You do need a car as it is a long trek up the hill through the neighborhood: be SURE to pay attention to directions the first time up! All owners suggestions proved sound: Must See's are Golden Rock gardens/lunch; Nisbet Plantation beach; Turtle Time at Pinney's! A new restaurant dining experience not to miss, The Gin Trap, near Oualie Beach, features chef quality meals, gin and cocktail bar, paintings by resident artist Rosemary whom we met and shared a lovely conversation about her work. A drive around the entire island will help you find your bliss, and hiking is good, weather permitting with proper footwear. The 4 Seasons Spa was a delightful afternoon diversion for the ladies while the men played a scenic round of challenging golf. Most days we vacillated between going to the beach or staying poolside, or both. Many thanks to Richard for all the terrific suggestions, availability via e-mail while we were there, and for the beautiful home!
We had an exceptionally relaxing and enjoyable vacation staying at the Hummingbird House in Nevis. Hummingbird House is a beautiful villa located in a quiet neighborhood in Nevis. The home has a lovely pool on a large westward facing deck with a breathtaking view of the water and St. Kitts in the distance. We enjoyed spending late afternoon floating in the pool and watching the lovely sunsets from the deck. The home also has a large screened porch which was a perfect place to sit if you want to take a break from the sun but still enjoy the beauty of the location. The home is well appointed; the bedrooms are very comfortable. Richard and Claire are exceptionally helpful and friendly owners. They arranged our transfer from St. Kitts airport to Nevis, and they also helped arrange a rental car for us. They checked-in with us via email during our stay, and they were very helpful with island information and they were prompt in answering any questions we had. The on-island house management was also very helpful and made sure everything was set for us. When we arrived, we were delighted to find that the home had wine and beer ready for us, and enough groceries to get us going and to prepare a nice breakfast the next day. In terms of restaurants, we highly recommend The Double Deuce. We loved Hummingbird House so much that we have booked it for a week again in 2017.
If you had friends who owned a really terrific home on Nevis and they offered to let you use it for a couple of weeks, you'd have a general idea of what it's like to stay at Hummingbird House. This was our first trip to Nevis after going to Bonaire for the past 15 years. Not having that familiarity with the island can be a little off-putting. Fear not! The owners are beyond accommodating, providing all the information you could possibly need to ensure a wonderful vacation. They even arranged for our transfers from the airport to the speedboat from St.Kitts to Nevis and the rental car. The home has everything we needed. From comfortable beds, island themed decor, pool floats, a wee-equipped kitchen, amazing views of the crystal blue Caribbean from the huge screened porch, beautiful pool area and large deck to a welcome that included chilled wine, soft drinks and cold beer. Not to mention, all of the makings for breakfast the next morning. The large gas grill on the deck is a huge plus for us as we really enjoy cooking out. The on-island management company is very responsive and the owners checked in with us several times via email to ensure all was well. Added daily entertainment is provided by the monkeys who cannot get enough of the gorgeous flower blossoms that grow all over the beautifully landscaped property.
In short, we loved Hummingbird House as evidenced by our reservation for 2 weeks in 2017. All in all, a super relaxing vacation.
We enjoyed the botanical gardens, Alexander Hamilton museum, The Yachtsman, Sunshine and Gin Trap restaurants, as well as Chrisshi Beach bar and restaurant.
We had a lovely time in this beautiful villa which was well appointed in a quiet location.
Richard could not have been more helpful in all our arrangements including renting a car. The gardens are beautiful with a real appreciation of plants and color. The new deck off the pool was where we relaxed to watch a incredible sunset every night . Really enjoyed Nevis and exploring the island and Hummingbird could not have been more perfect for us . We will be returning next year hopefully for two weeks instead of one! Thank you for sharing your special place.
Hummingbird House was all we could have wished for and more. The owners anticipated our every need, including arrangements from the airport to the ferry where we were whisked to the island, a brief 6 minute ride. Upon arrival a housekeeper met us, a rental car was waiting, and we made the quick drive to a beautiful house nestled into an amazing garden. We sat on the porch and watched the hummingbirds flutter amongst the flowering trees and bushes. The views from the new porch are spectacular, the pool is a great addition, and the sunsets are exquisite. The owners even stocked the refrigerator with fruit and breakfast items to get us started. It was a perfect stay in every way!
