The house was nice and very spacious. Lots of room to spread out inside. Disappointed in the outside yard area. Listed as having 5 acres, but most of the area was overgrown field. Just small year area mowed around the house. Also, house listed water access. We were denied access by neighbor who's yard you must walk thru saying the right away was no longer in effect. Spoke with home owner about this, and only response was, "no the right away is still in effect and we will have to speak to him about that. " Hopefully this gets corrected, as the the main reason we chose this house was water access to be able to take our 2 dogs swimming. If right away is corrected, should somehow mark where you are able to access water. There was no indication where you were able to access water, which also made this situation very upsetting. Over all a decent rental.
Relax in comfort
We are an older couple, and were visiting friends in the Waldoboro area. We were fortunate to enjoy some fabulous weather and all the comforts of home.
The house was clean and much more spacious than we needed. Sitting on the back deck with our morning coffee was a great way to start the day. And watching the sun set from the front porch, or from down the road on a nearby beach (with wine!), ended our day on just the right note. We had all the household amenities we are used to - coffee maker, microwave, cozy bedding, fluffy towels, an excess of pillows ...
The living room is huge, and has a good sized video/DVD library, and an entire wall of fiction and non fiction books. There is an older model organ, in case you are musical. Plenty to occupy you when you're not out sightseeing.
We especially enjoyed nearby Damariscotta Lake for fresh water swimming, just 20 minutes away. There are a couple of local ocean beaches equally close, and some State Parks within about 45 minutes drive, where we like to go beachcombing.
Great place for a laid back and relaxing getaway. It was just the two of us, but this home had the space to accommodate a family reunion!
perfect for a large family get-together
We were a family of four plus 3 aunts and uncles - and the house was plenty big enough. The living room was especially comfortable, and we enjoyed watching old movies in the evenings there. The kitchen was more than well equipped, and when the sun shone it was very nice to sit in the breakfast alcove. There were plenty of towels.
Some bedding was a little old - but serviceable. It was a little hard sharing the one shower between seven people, but we knew there was only one full bath when we rented.
We had take-out from the Jade Express - it was very good, and very reasonably priced.
We also had dinner at the Damariscotta lake Farm - very good, and we held a family event there, and highly recommend the place and the staff.
We didn't have much time to explore the area, but it is a quiet location, and a short drive to shops (some very unusual and interesting) and to beaches etc.
The owner was easily reached, and answered our few questions. She shared her recommendations for activities, and it'd be great if that info was available in a book/binder in the house. along with perhaps any house instructions.
We'd stay here again.
Far away from points of interest.
We did have enough room for 10 people but each of the beds were uncomfortable, with only a box spring and one foam mattress. Additionally the stove and oven were not clean. And sometimes you could hear animal noises in the walls.
Our location in Waldoboro was clearly not the best choice for you, especially after just leaving Bar Harbor. Nearby Boothbay Harbor might be more to your liking. Regarding the mattresses, 3 of the 6 are new, two of them very nice memory foam, and the rest more than 5 years old. We will review the situation with the older mattresses and see if it's time to replace any. We will look into the noises in the wall immediately … it sounds like a mouse or something has gotten into somewhere that it should not have. We hope the oversight in the oven cleaning was successfully remediated; we have already discussed it with our house cleaner so it hopefully will not happen again.
Lovely view, spacious and comfortable house
Everything was ship shape. Love the bright and sunny kitchen. Plenty of books and videos for a rainy day. All systems working ... we needed a little heat for the late spring weather. Used the Russian stove too. Nice deck, but a little too early for porch sitting. Grill in good working order. Plenty of beach towels!
The local Hannaford has been nicely upgraded - you don't need to run down to Damariscotta any more for variety of items.
Beautiful coastal views nearby - Friendship Harbor is just down the road. The kayak put in on Deaver Road is even closer. Martin's Point Road in Friendship has a private little beach that's great for beach combing, with island views. It will be a pleasure to return when we have time.
Make Yourself At Home!
Nice spot for a family retreat over 4th of July week. Well kept older (1830’s) farmhouse style home with many conveniences.
Great kitchen, with older appliances in working order. The JennAir indoor grill was a nice touch. Coffee maker, toaster, toaster oven, dishwasher, microwave all available. It was handy to find basic condiments in the refrigerator for guest use so you don’t have to go out and buy ketchup, mustard, mayo, all those things that you don’t really want to stock up on and then use just a few times. Cabinets are stocked with basic foods in case you need something.
Bright and sunny house, with pleasant window views, all very private. You can’t see another house from anywhere except the front of the house, where the view is toward the water of Sampson Cove and the Medomak River. You can see the across the street neighbor in the distance but the neighbors on either side are completely screened by evergreen trees along both sides of the house. Great sunset views toward the water.
There appears to be some work in progress … you can see fresh paint in a couple of rooms and on the deck. Room appointments are a mixed bag, some newer furniture, some older, some antique. Not brand spanking new hotel quality, but more than comfortable, especially for a large group. Oversupply of both bath and beach towels!
There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space to spread out, so even in a large group you can find a private nook if you want one. The living room is huge, so your entire group can gather together for socializing.
Two of the bedrooms are smaller in size, with just enough space for a double bed, bedside tables, and a dresser. On the other hand there is a queen size bed in the living room (on the floor, no bed frame), such that the living room could almost be it’s own separate little apartment. Our kids enjoyed that space as a play area, taking advantage of the toys on the bookshelves surrounding the bed. There is also a children’s toy and book nook next to the stairs.
All in all, a happy place to stay. Would return in the future.
Family size 5 bedroom house with fireplace, near rocky and sandy beaches and town boat landing, a ferry to Vinalhaven Island, close to Boothbay Harbor, Bath, Wiscasset and Damariscotta. Antique shops too numerous to mention. Waldoboro boasts an alpaca farm, and its own live theater. Fresh local seafood outlets and dockside lobster feasts ... or more conventional restaurants too. Kayak rentals are available on our street.
Don't miss Waldoboro Day and the clam hod races in June!
