Imperial Beach is truly the hidden gem of San Diego. IB is the last Southern California Beach community to remain family oriented and yet we have so many activities. With a dozen restaurants, shops, and fun bars just steps away. You can visit the second oldest bar in San Diego, Ye Olde Plank (across street) for a bit of history or get some old fashioned candy and a "Thrifty" ice cream cone across the street.
Walk between the colorful surfboards that make up "Surfhenge" and find yourself in front of one of San Diego's prime surf spots. Take a stroll down the Pier and grab some fish and chips, a cold beer, and watch the surfers below, while chatting with the fisherman about their catch.
Shop the year round farmers market on Fridays and maybe catch a classic car show too. If you plan it right you may even get to enjoy the annual Sun and Sea Festival or the Sand Castle Sculpting Celebration. There are many fun events to enjoy at the park on the beach with a playground for the kids.
Walk across the street to the ocean, fish off the pier, join a pick up game of basketball or beach volleyball, play at the kid's park or stroll down the street to the many restaurants. Nurture your spirit with a homemade pretzel from Par Amour, grab your mat for yoga class and stroll through the festive Farmer's Market on Fridays. Early morning walks, often offer wonderful shell findings.
Imperial Beach is one of Southern California's last remaining "kick back" beach communities. This undiscovered beach town lies just south of Coronado Island and the Silver Strand Beach. IB has so much to offer; both casual and upscale local restaurants, bars and a surf school for the kids. IB is home to the annual Sandcastle Competition, the Surf Town Triathlon and regular outdoor concerts. The Tijuana Estuary is just south of Imperial Beach and is home to over 370 species of birds.
