Quiet and relaxing stay. Loved the hot tub, outdoor fireplace, and sound of the creek. The downstairs bed was very comfortable. We did not use the loft bedroom. Short drive to McCaysville and Copperhill. We enjoyed the breakfast at the Hi-5 drive through restaurant and barbecue at Joe’s.
The perfect get-away
We really enjoyed out time at the cabin and plan to go back. The cabin is very secluded: even though there is a house nearby, we felt like we had complete privacy. The cabin itself is small but very nice. The main floor bedroom is small: there is one side table next to the bed, and that is the only furniture in the room. The bedroom and bathroom are attached by a small walk-through closet, where we kept our bags, and which contained extra blankets and pillows. This worked fine for us, but I could see how bringing clothes for a week's stay would be more complicated - I don't think there was enough room to
unpack (not that one brings a full wardrobe to hang out on the deck). The closet could maybe use more shelving to help with this. The bathroom is very small, but clean and comfortable to use. We didn't go up into the loft, but I assume it was as clean as the rest of the house. The air conditioning works very well. It was in the mid-80s while we were there, and the house was always comfortably cool. There is no washing machine/dryer, but I believe we passed several laundry mats between Blue Ridge and the cabin. Overall, the cabin was perfect for the two of us, but four or more people might feel a bit crowded if the group wished to stay in the cabin for much of their stay.
The outdoor space is pretty much perfect, and has so much room that kind of solves for the smaller living space in the cabin. Assuming the weather is nice, you will want to be outside as much as possible (we were). The huge covered deck on the end of the house provided plenty of room and shade. There were several chairs, including three rocking chairs, and a table and chairs to eat at and play cards and board games (there were a few board games in the cabin). My wife really enjoyed the hammock on the deck. The sound of the creek was very relaxing, the hot tub was clean and worked well, and the fireplace was nice (we didn't use it). The cabin is surrounded by huge trees, so there is lots of shade.
A couple other things. There is a picture that shows a water cooler in the kitchen, but that was not there during our stay (we brought water, but I would hate for someone else to show up thinking that drinking water was provided). We only ate two meals in Blue Ridge and would recommend both places: Blue Ridge Fry Shop was great for lunch, and Fightingtown Tavern was very good (despite the 3.5 star rating on Yelp).
We highly recommend this cabin and cannot wait to return.
Secluded but also close to activities
Our family enjoyed the cabin, perfect size for us. We did spend a lot of time on the deck listening to the water. Peaceful & relaxing. Beds were comfy & home was stocked with necessities/ amenities. Air conditioning worked great for July!
Saw a deer one day around 2pm.
Second time at the cabin. Setting is fantastic.
Seclusion at it's best!
Absolutely perfect for what the Missus and I were looking for. Pretty good little ride down a one lane gravel road that dead ends into the cabin, the road is well maintained though and caused no problem. The cabin is beautiful, well stocked with the essentials that you might need including an extra full tank for the gas grill. The beds are cozy and comfortable. The deck is super awesome, we sat out there and watched a nice little storm blow through while staying high and dry. Set up my karaoke equipment one night and me and my wife held a little concert for all the wild critters with plenty of room, power, and lighting. Can't rave enough about the deck, we spent probably 95 percent of our waking time there. The only negative for us was that fightingtown creek is virtual inaccessible, even if you happen to be part spider monkey, I don't think I could have gotten to it even as young chap. But that was no big drawback for us, we mostly just wanted to be able to hear it. You can see from the deck that there are some rocks and small falls that create a perfect relaxing babbling brook sound to enjoy. Blue Ridge and Ellijay aren't to far down the road if you need to get back to civilization for dinner and a movie or some good shopping. Overall, for what we were looking for, have to give Fireside Retreat a nice five star rating.
Beautiful and quiet
Wish there was some steps down to the lil water fall. My stay was wonderful. It is a beautiful place and quiet. We did see a couple deer, too.
