We love historic properties, having stayed in some of the country's best best and breakfasts and inns. We wanted to restore this property back to its original purpose and its former glory!
Kim purchased this Hotel Suites in 2016
Why Kim chose North Trail
We purchased this property because of its historic heritage and because it is in excellent condition for its age. Formerly on the property of John Ringling's brother, Charles, the property has been, since it was built in 1933: Circus performance venue, boarding house, bordello, photo studio, art gallery & more! As we learn more, we'll share more.
What makes this Hotel Suites unique
Stay in a piece of history! We affectionately call it "The Barn," but its official name is The Reserve. Located in Downtown Sarasota, across from the Van Wezel performing arts and close to all of Sarasota's many pristine beaches and cultural treasures. You won't be disappointed!

Quaint and cute
Very cute and the staff was very accommodating.
Great location and very accommodating hosts
We enjoyed our stay very much. The rooms were nicely renovated and furnished. The location near downtown Sarasota was very convenient. The coffee shop was great!
We loved our stay at The Reserve last week. We had the room above the coffee shop. Very spacious, accommodations were great. No issues at all about being above the coffee shop. Location was perfect for us to get to beaches either to the north or south, driving only 10 minutes or so. Thanks for everything!
good location; friendly and accommodating hosts
We enjoyed our stay. Our spot was a duplex type arrangement which was upstairs so this would not be ideal for people who have difficulty climbing to the 2nd floor. It was clean. They have live local music Friday and Saturday night, but it is over by 9 p.m. so did not disturb sleeping. I would recommend that since they put coffee makers in the rooms, that they also put in at least a few starter packs of coffee and accessories. This is particularly important for the side of the unit that has no kitchenette, as there is s coffee maker, but not coffee and no cups. We were very pleased with the location. The continental breakfast in the morning in their coffee house is limited to either a bagel with cream cheese or butter, or a croissant, and a single cup of coffee. So if you are looking for juice, jam for your bread, cereal, fruit or anything else you will want to go out. In the smaller side of the suite (the non-kitchenette side) the bed is pushed against the wall. That is no problem as long as you don't mind needing to crawl over your sleeping partner if the inside person needs to get up. On the kitchenette side, you can access the bed from either side. The bathroom had plenty of nice towels and a blow-dryer was available.
Great place in a nice location!
Great place for a get-away! Clean, reasonably priced, and the rooms are over a coffee shop and book store. What could be better? They have wine and beer and a quaint spot to enjoy it all too! We would definitely stay here again!
Fantastic place to relax for your vacation.
We ended up staying at the apartment above the cafe/bookstore. The location is fantastic, being very close to Lido beach and Siesta key. The best thing is the cafe is right downstairs, so you wake up in the morning and perfect light breakfast is readily available for you right down the stairs. The coffee shop as I was told is one of the best in the area, if you are into good coffee.
The apartments are fairly new and the beds are comfortable, everything just works as expected. There are a number of shops (e.g. grocery) just right down the block and it is very convenient to get a few things when needed. There is a small kitchen where we stay, but if you don't feel like cooking or want a better meal, there are a number of good restaurants up and down Tamiami. (e.g Yummy House, Rico's, Barnacle Bill's, Walt's Fish market, just to name a few)
The owner is very accommodating and welcoming. She really thought of everything. There are beach towels and beach chairs available to use if you're beach-goers. We really have such a great time there and we are considering staying at this same place next time we visit Sarasota. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for either short or long term accommodation.
