Walk to downtown from this private, peaceful & light-filled 1 BR apartment in the landmark Keyhole House–a legal AirBnB host-site & 100% wind-powered! Located in historic Montford and less than 1 mile from downtown, enjoy a "boutique hotel at home" (private apt + thoughtfully appointed details and amenities enjoyed at a boutique hotel). Plus, we offer off-street parking, a newly updated & modern "green" interior with vintage charm, and our renowned "porch-sits" with wine, tea or local beer.
Perfect for a weekend or an entire month, this peaceful, spacious, light-filled apt-suite is one of two private, fully appointed apartments in the upstairs of our newly remodeled historic Montford home, the landmark Keyhole House.
Enjoy a host of amenities, such as private, off-street parking, a fully stocked kitchenette (including organic, fair-trade coffee and teas, organic and gluten-free breakfast options and snacks), plus washer and dryer, and of course, an array of organic toiletries. What you won't find in this suite is a television (although, of course, there is high-speed wireless internet!) because our hope is to provide an experience that invites you to unplug, to experience all that Asheville has to offer, to enjoy the urban forest across the way, to wake to birdsong and the sun rising over the Eastern mountain vista. We hope you feel both a sense of peace and playfulness while you are here, that you want to linger . . . and return.
We also offer a hand-picked list of "to-do/to-eat & drink" recommendations, as well as concierge services, such as stocking your kitchen with delicious treats from a handful of local chefs and purveyors of fine food with whom we have established relationships. We love Asheville and our AirBnB guests, and we delight in offering or pointing you to an array of local experiences to enhance your stay. We'll send details when you book!
Our values and prioritites are based on care: for our community and our planet. We are diversity-inspired hosts and LGBTQ welcoming, and we are committed to providing living wages to every person who services this property and your suite. We make it our priority to be considerate of environmental sensitivities and allergies by using only natural and organic cleaning products, and low VOC paints and materials. Air quality in the apt-suite is maintained by a newly installed ductless heating and a/c unit that cleans the air of allergens. And thanks to Arcadia Power (and a little extra that we pay each month to make it so), our electricity carbon footprint is now 100% offset by wind power!
And if you are a history and/or architecture buff, you'll be enchanted by this home, as we are. We like to call The Keyhole House the house of two eras––downstairs is early Arts & Crafts, upstairs is early mid-century. When the original owner lost the house during the Depression, the next owner converted the 2nd floor into apartments. This post-Depression change ushered in new fixtures and flooring upstairs. Since purchasing it in the spring of 2016, we have thoughtfully remodeled the Keyhole House, blending the extraordinary vintage charm of these two eras.
This apt-suite is in compliance with the permitting regulations of the City of Asheville. To this end, though permitting regulations do not permit a full range (with oven), you will find a well-stocked kitchen that will exceed your short-term food preparation needs, should you decide to eat in.
After check-in, access your suite via your private exterior entrance with balcony adjacent to our off-street parking lot and your own reserved parking space. We greet you and show you to your home-away-from-home, and then we leave you alone *unless* you need us or want to socialize--which we also welcome and enjoy.
*PLEASE NOTE: The Keyhole House is a 100+- year-old home that we have thoughtfully restored with its original charm in mind. Your bathroom ceilings are sloped and cozy, which may make for "cramped" for someone who might be accustomed to or expecting today's "space standards." If you require an especially roomy shower, this suite may not be suitable for you. ALSO, parking can be tight in the back parking area when we have a full house, so we encourage compact–mid-size cars over SUVs.*
