I bought these properties assuming my numerous children would live in them while they went to college, where my husband taught mathematics. Of course being my children that didn't work out. So I fixed them up, rented them out for a while, heard about short term rentals and have been doing that since 2011. It has been great and I have met many interesting people. PS- one of my children now lives there! I live a two minute or one mile walk away.
Nancy Marshall purchased this house in 2003
They are the essence of New Orleans charm. Built in the nineteenth century, with high ceilings , porches, mantels and fireplaces( they apparently used coal), wood floors , very charming Victorian cottages. Nice yard, two and a half blocks from the streetcar line, amazing restauants in an essentially residential neighborhood, close proximity to universities.
Near streetcar line, uptown New Orleans, Tulane, Loyola Universities, the Zoo, St Charles Avenue.
Long term and short term rentals.
Our quick trip home was more memorable due to Nancy's hospitality. She went above and beyond to make our stay more comfortable and enjoyable. My husband and I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Nancy, but our children, who flew in from Denver, did. They were so impressed with her sweetness, but she is from New Orleans, after all!! This home is in walking distance to so many great restaurants and night life. We walked to famous Camilla Grill for breakfast and to Cooter Brown's for oysters and po'boys after the Saints game. We will definitely consider the lovely home again. Mardi Gras?!?
Adorable New Orleans shotgun cottage. Great quiet neighborhood location and only a block from Oak Street’s great restaurants, quaint shops and quirky coffee houses.
There was a bit of confusion when the owner notified us a few weeks after our booking that the house had been previously reserved by someone else, but she has an identical house on the same property and was able to accommodate our family. I think this also created a payment snafu as we made our payments through VBRO rather than mailing the owner a check.
We arrived around midnight to find the air conditioner was frozen/not working. Not wanting to call the owners so late, I texted so they could address the problem in the morning. They actually called immediately and offered to let us stay in their personal home until the AC could be repaired. Very nice offer, but moving 5 people to their home would have been a huge imposition on them...and we were tired from the long drive. The AC lines defrosted and seemed to be working the next day. Unfortunately, the AC worked for about 18 hours and then needed a 6 hour break to defrost...leaving us without AC all three nights of our visit. The owners dropped off a large fan and TP; both were needed and helpful.
The beds are comfy and house is nicely furnished. The kitchen is minimally equipped, so we purchased a few minor items and/or improvised to prepare meals. The screened in back porch and back yard were a huge hit. This house is adorable and quirky…just like NOLA.
From the beginning this owner has been wonderful to work with. She accommodated every request we asked and also made it extremely easy to check in. I never got to meet the owner since we were in and out so much but I would definitely recommend this property. The property is exactly what is listed on the pictures. It's close to Oak street for sure! We visited this past weekend for the Jazz fest and it was super close to the fair grounds. It also is only blocks from the street car that will take you to canal street. We used several uber rides as the cost is only $11.00 to Bourbon street one way. I would certainly stay here again.
Make sure and pack the coffee there is a coffee maker but no coffee, the outside porch is a lovely place to enjoy coffee.
I spent my 11 year anniversary with my wife and friends. Our stay was perfect. This is a cute house not far from all the attractions of NOLA. The owner was very accommodating to our request. I highly recommend this place and would be happy to stay there again.
Our family was very cozy in this clean, comfortable cottage with old world character. The bathroom and kitchen were very modern and the beds were very comfortable. The location was ideal in a quiet street with lots of character and nearby shops and restaurant to walk to. We felt safe and the owners were very nice and responsive. Perfect!
Some friends and I actually stayed in this house during a summer festival in NOLA for a weekend and really enjoyed our stay. As a severe arachnophic, I was freaked out by the spiders int he front Magnolia tree but the owners were so kind and gracious about it. While we were out grocery shopping, the husband came over, sprayed the tree, killed those spiders and left us two bottles of wine for our troubles. Nothing like great hospitality!
The bedrooms were comfy but a little dusty, the wifi worked, the kitchen was clean with all the accoutrements of a livable space. We plan on getting the house again this year and can't wait to return. I don't like the noise and stink of downtown. I love the charm of Oak Street and smaller neighborhoods that are less tourist-y. Lots of local color and charm in this space. I would highly recommend.
