Overview

About the property

3 Br/2 Ba 1960 Cottage Surrounded By Mountains And Conservation Land

Nestled in the shadows of Bearwallow and Little Pisgah mountains lies our newest vacation rental property, Verandah Vista. This 1400 square foot cottage has just finished an extensive renovation and is ready for guests!

The 3 bedroom, 2 bath home, built in 1960, was completely gutted and rebuilt in the contemporary cottage style similar to our other two properties.

With over 1500 square feet of decks overlooking the Hickory Nut Gorge and adjacent to a trickling stream, Verandah Vista is a hikers’ haven. The Little Bearwallow Mountain Trail, maintained by the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy, runs alongside the property. One can literally walk through the 1-acre property and begin hiking!

The house consists of a master bedroom with French doors leading to verandah access. The king size bed, large flat screen TV, en suite bath with walk in shower and double vanity, will challenge you to find a reason to leave the room.

The second bedroom also has a king size bed and a flat screen TV. Bedroom three contains a twin xl day bed with a twin xl trundle bed. The second bathroom, shared by these two rooms, has a full size bathtub surrounded by subway tile and a classic black and white color scheme.

The large, fully stocked kitchen with brand new GE Slate appliances has plenty of countertop and cabinet space to make preparing meals a breeze. The nearby table seats 6 comfortably.

The living area contains a sofa with chaise and a queen pull-out sleeper. Plentiful seating surrounds the wall mounted flat screen TV, but also allows verandah access with beautiful views.

Outdoor dining and grilling take place on the verandah level of the deck. The verandah itself runs along the entire side of the house. Dining outside is truly a special experience, with songbirds and a musical stream accompanying your meal.

The next level of the deck houses the brand new 6 person hot tub. With stars overhead, and mountains in the distance, soaking after a full day of activities never felt so good. There is also a propane fire table with four padded, swivel seats. The spacious yard has a fire pit for roasting hot dogs and making s'mores.

Conveniently located off of Gerton Highway, a North Carolina scenic byway, in Gerton, North Carolina, Verandah Vista offers stunning views and luxurious comfort.

Be sure to check out our other two properties, Mountain Vista Retreat and Saluda Vista, property ID's 600417 and 709549. We pride ourselves on offering "The Best" to our guests.

About Suzanne and Marty Kelly

Suzanne & Marty met & fell in love while working at an Eco-resort on the island of St.John in the US Virgin Islands. After much deliberation about where to make our permanent home (and even more on where we shouldn't) we decided on the mountains of North Carolina. We moved here after our island wedding in 2004 and have never regretted our decision.

Suzanne and Marty Kelly purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Suzanne and Marty Kelly chose Blue Ridge Mountains

I drove by this property nearly every day and finally saw in one of the real estate apps that it was listed as a pre-foreclosure. On a whim, one day I drove down the drive and realized that it was vacant. I sat on the deck and looked out into the valley while listening to the trickling stream which runs alongside the house. I sent a text and a picture to Marty that just said, "Perfect!" The house needed a ton of work, but the land and surroundings were always present. The house went up for auction on the Henderson County courthouse steps and, after a little bidding war, we were the proud owners!

What makes this cottage unique

This property is surrounded by land owned and cared for by the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy (CMLC). The house overlooks an orchard which hosts apple gathering days in the fall, and weddings during warmer days. When the trees are bare, you have views all the way down into the Hickory Nut Gorge Valley. There are hiking trails running alongside the 1 acre property that lead to a beautiful stream. In addition, there is a small brook that trickles along. Sitting on the deck and listening to the waterfall and the singing birds is a pleasurable way to spend the day.

Excellent

This was our second time back. This piece of heaven is spectacular. The place was spotless and we had a great time. Try Limones restaurant in Asheville - you will be pleased. Also, if you are interested in mountain biking, rent bikes from Sycamore Cycles with shops in Hendersonville and Pisgah. They provided outstanding service.

A hidden gem surrounding you in God's majesty!

  • 5 of 5

I brought my sister here as a birthday gift and an opportunity to free her mind from the day to day stressors. This was the perfect spot. Surrounded by beautiful trees, brook and small waterfalls, the sounds of birds and scampering squirrels, and the clouds floating overhead. The meaning of serenity right on our midst. Does it sound too perfect or far-fetched? Then come see for yourself. And while we had some rainy, chilly weather that prevented us from being outside as much as we'd have liked, the home itself is fantastic. Casual and rustic in texture and color but without all the bears and fishing decor one sees in most mountain retreats. Beautifully decorated with thought given to whatever needs or comforts one might need. Close to many sites to hike, learn history, shop interesting

little stores, and more fabulous food and entertainment than you'll have time to take in. We read books, lounged in our jammie's, completed a 1000 piece puzzle, binge-watched some Netflix, sprawled across big, heavenly beds, ate in and ate out, sat on the deck and just enjoyed nature. One of the most satisfying get-aways ever! We're already discussing dates for a return trip. Thank you Suzanne and Marty for sharing Vista View with us.

Beautiful, private and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This property is gorgeous. The house is adorable inside and out. The deck is a wonderful place to relax with a great view and you can listen to the sound of rushing water. The inside was beautifully decorated, very clean and updated. We had everything we needed during our visit. It is a wonderful place to stay.

We found a piece of Heaven and can't wait to go back!

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated my daughter's 16th birthday last weekend at this beautiful cottage. I have never felt more at home than I did in this little piece of Heaven. The sound of the trickling water falls and the hiking trail right in the back yard...it couldn't have been more perfect. The cottage decor was amazing. I'm a big fan of Chip and Joanne Gaines on Fixer Upper and it looked just like their style. Was very impressed to find out that Susanne the owner did the decorating. Susanne and Marty were the best hosts and quick to respond. We spent the day in Asheville which is located within 30 mins of the cottage. The drive there was lovely...a bit curvey but we loved it. Visited the Salt Cave and Tupelo Honey. Then spent the evening at the cottage grilling out on the gorgeous deck with the hot tub and fire pit. Loved also visiting the Flowering Bridge in Lake Lure. It was a wonderful trip and I'm already making plans to go back. Oh and I can't stop dreaming that they will put this place on the market in a few years so I can buy it if my daughter ends up going to college in Asheville.

One of my favorite places on this earth!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time back to this property and I see us returning several times a year! It is the perfect place to relax and renew as a family and I absolutely have no hesitation in recommending it. The owners are very responsive to anything that you may need although there is little to ask them as they have thought of everything!!
